We did the Mixology class on the Dream and it was so awesome. We sat at the bar and mixed our own drinks.

Fast forward to this month on the Wonder. We did a private one with our Facebook group and I was disappointed because they just provided us with drinks to try.

We will be on the Magic in November. There is another private group, but now I'm unsure.

Is there any way to know how the class will work? Is it different on each ship? Or was it because we were a private booking?

No way of knowing what the set up will be. Pretty much each bartender sets it up the way they want to run it. We did it on the Fantasy and we had 5 drinks. Each person mixed one drink for themselves and 4 others. So everyone mixed at least one drink. This was a private Mixology with our cruise meet group.

I've read reports where some bartenders just have 4 or 5 people come up and each mix one drink, and then everyone just has an already mixed drink to drink.

I've also had a variety of mixologies. To be honest, I don't think it's so much about who gets to make the drinks but rather how engaged the bartender is with the guests. The best mixology I've had was one where all the drinks were premade and only one member of our group made one drink. But our bartender was so great that the experience was wonderful.

Varies greatly by bartender as others have said. The best and worst ones we have done were on the Wonder, so the ship doesn't make a difference. You never know when the bartender will change

We (DW and I) have done Mixology on both the Fantasy and Magic....both were different. The Fantasy was at Skyline lounge where we all got a chance to mix drinks for others behind the bar. The Mixology on the Magic was as mentioned where they brought drinks out to each person and only 5 people made drinks...and it was the layered shot drink. Honestly, I enjoyed both...I talked afterwards with the Bartender on the Magic and he said that they are unable to have people behind the bar because the only entrance is "backstage" That is understandable.

Each are different, but both very enjoyable in their own way.

We attending one and everyone got to make at least one drink for 4 to 5 people. I would be disappointed if that were not the setup if we do it again. I think make the drinks is equally as important as the bartender and trying the drinks.

I've read the same, Dream/Fantasy you tend to make your own vs. Magic/Wonder you do not. I'm sure it can vary but agree that's what I've consistently read.

Very different Mixology on the Magic and Wonder. More people making drinks on the Wonder and on the magic three people made a B52. We did have five different drinks at each Mixology Tasting.

The bartender on the Wonder stated that this is how it is done regularly. So from this point forward, I would only do Mixology on the Dream or Fantasy. I don't need five watered down drinks.

I did a mixology on the Wonder once and they had the drinks already set up , 5 per person. some of us did get to make drinks but it's not the same as on the bigger ships.
the funny thing about the mixology on the Wonder was about 6 people did not show up, so some of us just took those drinks as well. It was a fun walk back to our cabin LOL

Last September on the Magic we did a private tasting and it was a create your cocktail set up. Each person made 4/5 cocktails for their table (all 1 type) then the next person made the next lot and so on. It was really fun. As others have said though I've also done the "here you go" style of tasting too. You just don't know which you are likely to get.

We did a private mixology with our facebook group on the Magic in April. We each got to make our own 5 drinks, and it was well worth the $20 it cost per person! I would recommend it!

We did an open Mixology on the Fantasy last November in Skyline. I think there were 16 of us. The head bartender taught, and asked for three volunteers for each round. The three for the current drink round made them for everyone - ie each made 5. The head bartender made the first of each to show us. He had two assistants who prepped all the glasses and the bartenders best friend (ice).

This is how it was for our private group on the Wonder in May 2015...we got to drink the 5 premade drinks, but we also got to go up and make a specialty drink too (a full sized version)...I tasted ahead and picked my favorite to make the full sized version...then when we were done, we got to drink the leftovers too. I was wasted at the end. Best $20 spent on the whole cruise!
