Since gift buying season will soon be upon us this is just a reminder to make sure you know 100% how someone spells their name before buying them a personalized gift.

Can't tell you how many personalized teacher gifts I have that are misspelled. I won't use them. Guess they don't pay too much attention to the monthly newsletters I send home that are signed by me. ;)

Given the quality of spelling by (purported) adults on this forum, are you really all that surprised? ;)

If they can't tell the difference between a 2-letter word and a 3-letter word (to, two, too), what hope do they have of spelling someone's name? (heck, you can even leave out "two". Supposedly educated adults who've graduated from high school can't tell the difference between "to" and "too")

:goodvibes This is not a recent phenomenon. My grandmother, who would be 102 this year, got an engraved Bible from her husband when she was about 50. Her name was IRMA B_________.Well, he got the last name right, but when the Bible came the name on is was TAMA B________. Yup. Granddaddy had a high school diploma and still spelled her 4-LETTER name wrong! :rotfl: And Granny never let him forget it either. She put that big ol' Bible right on the coffee table for everybody to see it.

Make sure the monogram doesn't spell a bad word too.
    This is just awkward

Elem. school teacher here.....Two years ago I received two sets of beautiful notecards a parent had ordered for me for Christmas. I didn't have the heart to tell her that my name was spelled incorrectly. Needless to say, I couldn't use those notecards at all.

I have also received a tote bag with my name embroidered & misspelled. I never used it. Finally just threw it out.

IF I may add this: if you're buying a couple something monogrammed for their wedding/shower/etc, be sure you know their last name!! That is all...

[Disclaimer: totally grateful for all and any gifts I have ever received nor do I expect gifts for my weddings events.]

During my 16 years of education, over half of my teachers consistently spelled my name wrong. It's a very common name, and although it has variations, I spell it the most common way. It goes both ways ;)
