There cakes are all so gorgeous!!!

Does anyone have recommendations for where one can find fake-cakes -- as in the top layer is the only actual cake and the rest is styrofoam decorated to resemble cake layers. I'm exploring this option with a sheet cake that will be cut up for guests, but for photos we'd like for some of the cake to be real.

I live in the Chicagoland area. Any suggestions?

PS- My wedding is not in WDW

From everything I've read, getting a decorated fake cake is usually just as expensive as getting a real one because most of the cost of a cake relates to decorating it. You might find that you could get a small two-tier cake for less than a 1 real/1 fake layer cake and then do the sheet cake thing for the rest of the guests (which is a great idea!). :)

    There is this site: http://www.fakethecake.com/index.html
I'm not sure where they are located, but they do ship. You could talk to a local baker about doing this for you.

I've also heard of some where the bottom layer is missing a "slice" of the styrofoam and a slice of cake is put there so that you can cut the bottom layer and use that for pictures.

I think you're right about that one. Websites I've look at are like $200 to rent. Maybe I can get a small, two-tiered for the wedding party to eat and a sheet cake for guests. I want to get a delicious tasting sheet cake but those fancy wedding cakes never taste good anyway!

Speaking from personal experience, our fancy Disney wedding cake tasted FANTASTIC! Everybody loved it. Scott and I got to try both flavors and I still couldn't tell you which one I liked better. SOOOO YUMMY!

Since so many Dis Brides read this board, I am hoping I have a good chance of getting advice here.

DH and I married 3/30/09 at WDW. I hand carried my chocolate castle cake topper home with us and have had it in the freezer since. Now we are moving to another state and I want to ship it. I had intended on eating it for our anniversary, in replacement of an anniversary layer. I guess we can eat it now but I would really like to know how to ship it so that I have the option to try.

Has anyone ordered a chocolate castle topper and had it shipped? Can anyone describe the manner in which it was shipped: packaging materials, etc.?
    :confused3

    I really appreciate the help!

I'm not sure Disney will ship food to you, but since it's already sitting in your freezer. I'd suggest contacting your local UPS or Fed-Ex and have it shipped in dry ice. If they can't help contact a local dry ice company. I've heard of people having food items shipped, but I'm not sure who they contacted to help. Hopefully someone can give you a better answer.

Thanks. I just called the Disney cake specialist and she said that they don't ship food at all. She also said she can't think of anything better than to go to a local shipper.

If anyone has shipped food and has ideas about what to do. Feel free to PM.

This is the cake for our Disneyland hotel wedding. It's a variation for a mad hatter I found at another bakery. The middle layer was pink in the brochure I had, but I did a little photoshop magic and changed it to turquoise. Disney did a great job, everyone loved it and it went great with all the decorations.

Wow some delicious looking cakes. I am on my lunch break and now all I want is cake

I have a quick question Re: the cake you get in the Escape Package. What are they like? Are they v basic? We are thinking that we will have up to 14 guests in total and I like the idea of a castle cake, but nothing too big. The castle on top with a round base with the colour to match our wedding colours.

Here are pictures of the five cake choices you have with an Escape Wedding. The white chocolate castle cake topper costs $100 for the small size and $200 for the large size. You can have the turrets painted at no extra charge. Painting the body adds $50 to the price of the small size and $75 to the large size. (Note that although they describe it as "small" that castle cake topper is the one you see in most people's cake pictures, and it's quite substantial.)

:rotfl: Anytime... I just want other people to have an easier time of it than I did! :thumbsup2

Oh, and it should be noted that to get 50 slices outta the Escape cakes you'd need to bust into the top "anniversary" layer, and cut pretty small pieces. :cutie:

We originally chose a very DISNEY cake design. Then decided to go with a design we REALLY fell in love with. The lady who's doing it for us assured us that it will look JUST like the picture. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I LOVE LOVE it. Perfect for a fall ceremony!! BTW, ours will be just 3 tiers. The cake colors PERFECTLY match our STD's, Invites & Programs!!!
