Possible New WDW Roads

An interesting permit was filed with the South Florida Water Management District today. This permit was to allow for borings to be performed to asses the conditions for possible new roads. The first one would connect Flamingo Crossing to CR 545

The second is for the rumored extension of Floridian Way.

The third, and probably most interesting, is a long speculated new entrance road to DHS.

Interesting.

Not quite following the Floridian Way logic. I drive that section of road frequently and part of the proposed path/boring location comes preciously close to the fireworks storage and RCID fire station area. Not really sure what a road there would be used for.

There has been a rumor that a new northern entrance would be coming from that direction.

If they want to send more traffic in/out Floridian Way and possibly past the Contemporary, they should re-engineer Seven Seas Drive in front of the TTC. I would elevate it with walkways underneath and put a traffic light the west end where it intersects Floridian Way. Then re-do that awful Vista Blvd intersection just north of the entry plaza!

I don't see them directing more traffic past the Contemporary. That directly leads backstage. The possible new road off of Floridian Way would join past the last backstage gate (Gate 3) and would preserve the backstage area.

It may be closer to the fireworks storage area than one would think but a gate just past the new fire station takes care of that.

BTW: They are installing traffic controls at Vista Way and World Drive. Don't see that changing more than this. Not sure what you would want to do there, it works as designed. Just needs traffic lights to make it safer. To do anything else is not cost effective. You are not going to head south from there as that will require flyovers. If you are needing to head to other areas, head out Bonnet Creek Parkway from Vista Way or if coming from Reams Rd, go out Floridian Way.

The third one intrigues me. A while back while I was fantasizing about DHS expansions, I wondered if they would take advantage of that semicircle of land to the south of the entrance. if you re-jig the entrance, that would allow for a large amount of space for say....Star Wars things?

They are saying that the BVD entrance to DHS will become a busses only entrance.

Which is kinda what it was intended for I believe. Except they botched the main entrance so that you can only enter from world drive going north

I was a bit surprised to see this yesterday. Only after reading your comment did I realize why they are doing this - its so traffic coming down from the Contemporary area and wanting to proceed onto Vista Way can safely cross the traffic coming out of the toll plaza and wanting to go up towards the Contemporary.

@cranbiz Been back to Carver recently?

If they move the road northwest of the Magic Kingdom can they close the old Floridian Way road and expand the park in that direction?

Right now there are some backstage areas there that could fairly easily be used for park expansion if so desired without having to move Floridian Way.

I believe the area between Floridian Way and the Rivers of America can be used for an expansion and wouldn't require moving the road.

Another permit was filed today for possible roads by the car care center.

No, Ma'am I have not been back since August of last year, but my wife has been and will be back in about 3 weeks to sell her forever candles at the Onset Blues Festival and the Chalk Fest.

I'm not surprised. If they do make a new "north entrance" for the general public they will need to do something to route that traffic down to the MK parking toll plaza or down World Drive. The current one-lane road won't be adequate for the traffic.

Asking because I was born and raised in Plymouth. Lived only about a mile from the Carver line for 30 years before moving to FL.

Great memories of Edaville RR..

They've already opened up the road past the Contemporary for anyone to use as a North entrance and opening Floridian Way around to join that North entrance makes sense. As does a permit to rework roads near the car care center. Two way traffic up the west side would be great. Thanks for noting there will be a traffic light at Seven Seas and Floridian Way now - I have never liked how the seven seas traffic rolled into the Floridian way traffic. When coming south on Floridian and wanting to turn left onto Seven Seas was a dangerous turn.

I wonder if some of these roads could be just for construction traffic to use? Especially going through wetlands and they would still have to have permits etc. to even put in temporary roads. They would even have to put in gravel road beds to support the construction traffic.
