I remember seeing a thread on this site last year talking about the gator at Pop. I think I may have even seen pictures on this site of it - a small one - about 4' long. Well, we were there for 2 weeks last Sept. and i looked every day from our room overlooking but I did not see it in the lake there. Has anyone seen it recently?:surfweb:

He was there in October I have pictures. Plus the big huge turtles.

I would think they would trap him and send him off site before anyone gets hurt. The turtles are also probably snapping turtles. Maybe they need to fence it off to prevent it from happening in the future?:surfweb:

There are gators and turtles everywhere in Florida, and at Disney. Once the gators reach a certain length, they do remove them and take them offsite. The Coronado had one (which was actually named) and we had seen him in 2008, but when we got there in 2009 they had removed him because he had grown too big. In the meantime, a new one has arrived.

Pardon my ignorance, but do the alligators just walk around the resort?

I know that sounds silly, but in all my visits I've never seen an alligator. This will be my first stay at Pop - just curious if I should be keeping my eyes on the bushes at night.

I'm not sure where they are at Pop (I've never been there), but at the CSR and the CBR, they have been found in the lake swimming with the turtles and fish.

Disney is one big nature preserve. Any natural wildlife that appears on the property will be left alone unless it bothers the guests. And I don't mean that someone just doesn't want to see an alligator or a turtle at their resort. Disney will remove any alligator when they get to a certain length but all they do is put it in a more remote location.

We need to remember that we are the ones who are trespassing on nature's land.

Good to know! In all my years at WDW I've never seen any gators or turtles! I think I'd kind of freak out if I happened upon an alligator there!

When we were at POP in Dec. I was at the smoking area by the lake one night. I was enjoying my Diet Coke on a bench....taking in the quiet, relaxing peacefullness of the warm FL night...:cloud9:I could see a lot of birds floating on the lake...then I heard ....well...a bit of commotion in the darkness in the lake...some splashing..I didn't see anything but if I was to guess I would bet the infamous *groovy* alligator may have had himself a dinner of poultry that night.

I have several friends who live in Fla. They say if there is a body of water there's probably alligators ;) My one friend saw one on the side of the road once...

Yep, where there is water, there are alligators, when we were there last July there was one swimming in the splash down area of Splash Mountain, there is a picture of it in someones trip report...

I looked in the POP lake as often as I could when we were there in 2007. Never saw a gator, but loved all the birds, fish, turtles, and bunnies (No, the bunnies were not "in" the lake :) I'll keep my eyes open in June. I'd love to see one!

Yeah he is not exactlly walking around or anything LOL. He just hangs in the water.

I pictured a tourist alligator, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, fanny pack, camera slung over his shoulder and Mickey ears. :lmao:

FWIW, I'd love to see a normal alligator down there...hanging out in the water, just being an alligator.

When we were there in may the turtles were just waling around albeit slowly on the sidewalk near the eighties section parking lot one evening. We walked right around them (a side walk away from them like 10 feet). As for a gator, well we did see one from the bus one night near a lakish body of water right outside the POP sign. I think he might have been going after a dear that was near the waters edge, but our bus was moving pretty fast so thank goodness we didnt see much of that, lol

Is this for real? Does anyone have a link to this picture?

In Central Florida, alligators are like squirrels or deer up north.. they're around. It happens a fair bit.

This little fella...

Was found in a bathroom in the Magic Kingdom by custodial staff. He was in a bathroom in Adventureland. Wow. Going to the bathroom that night would have been a REAL adventure!

For the most part, when they are smaller, they are as afraid of you as you are of them.
