So after much lurking I am starting a PJ! My wedding is still almost 2 years out, but I have so many ideas floating around in my head I'm hoping putting them all in one spot will help quiet my obsessed mind!

First off, I want to thank all of you lovely ladies on this board! Reading all your PJ's and TR's have given me so many great ideas... and you'll see I have borrowed lots...so THANK YOU:worship: !

So meet us... Adelia (27) and Ryan (26)...
119.jpg

We are both nurses and are currently living in Minnesota (we are from Michigan). I am working as an ER nurse currently and DF is back in grad school getting his master's in anesthesia (which is why we moved to MN). We are waiting to get married til he graduates in 2010... hence why the wedding date is so far out. Sometimes it seems like Dec 2010 will never come but everyone says it goes fast. We got engaged in April 2008 and set the date shortly thereafter... atleast it's under 2 years now!

We met in 2004 when we were both working as nurses in a Surgical ICU in Michigan. We aren't really sure when we started dating but it was sometime in 2006. I know... you're thinking how can you not know when you started dating...it's a long story but here's the summary. I got married in 2002 at the age of 21... unfortunately my first husband didn't end up being the amazing Christian man I thought I had married and I found out he had been cheating on me. In 2005, we finally divorced and I was devastated to say the least. Ryan and I were work friends up to this point and had the same group of friends but never hung out much. After I left my husband I moved into the same apartment complex that Ryan happened to live in. A bunch of people from work helped me move and Ryan helped as well. I was pretty depressed at this point and Ryan started coming over to check on me a couple times a week... I figured my friends put him up to it. Then he started bringing me food or cooking me dinner... and finally he was like... you need to get off the couch... and would take me to a movie or dinner...and before I knew it we were hanging out a couple times a week and after several months I finally realized... "oh my gosh i think this is what people who are dating do... oh crap we're dating". It took me awhile to come to grips with the fact that I was dating again and I had some major trust issues but he was very patient with me through the whole thing. One day shortly after I admitted to myself we were dating but was having an exceptionally tough day for one reason or another, Ryan looked at me and he said... "You know what you need? You just need to go to the Happiest Place on Earth!" And he went that week and booked us a week long trip to Disney in Sept 2006! I had been to Disney a few times as a kid but never stayed on property. I liked Disney but thought of it as a "kid place" but I went along with it anyways... needless to say after that trip I was hooked! Here we are on our first Disney trip...
041.jpg

After we went to Disney we went and saw my parents who now live in Naples, FL. My dad is not usually very friendly towards guys I date so when we were taking pics on the beach and my dad put his arm around Ryan- we (Ryan, my mom, and myself) were all shocked...
DSC00462.jpg

My dad just laughed and said "Anyone who can make my little girl smile-after all she's been through- like I've seen her smile this trip is alright by me!" My dad has now deemed this "the best pic ever" and after that I realized I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself and move on with my life.

We continued to date the entire next year. I had never been happier in a relationship and realized that so much had been missing in my previous relationship. None the less, I just felt the need to get away on my own for a bit so I decided to do travel nursing... I originally thought I would go somewhere warm and fun but August 2007 I ended up in Wisconsin with 7 of my girlfriends- the pay was great but not the most exciting place to go! I went back and visited Ryan several times during the 5 months I spent there and realized I never wanted to be without him again. He had gotten into anesthesia school in Minneapolis and knew he would be moving there in May 2008 but we decided to move there early to be together so we both got travel jobs in January and moved in together on New Year's Eve.

Up next... the proposal and the wedding plans!

So... to back track a little from where I left off...back to fall 2007. We had talked about getting married at this point but it was always in the WAAAYYYYY far out future... like 2010 when he's done with grad school. The plan was after he graduated we would get engaged, get married very shortly thereafter and start trying to have kids.

So when I was back in Michigan visiting Ryan for the weekend and my parents were getting ready to come over for dinner... Ryan says to me "After your parents leave we need to talk." Hmmm, that didn't come across very well to me... and with all my insecurities all I could think is that he's breaking up with me or that he cheated on me. So I told him just to tell me because I didn't want to freak out about it all through dinner.

So he tells me to sit down :scared1: (yep I'm ready for the worst) and he tells me he wants to talk to me about the possibility of getting engaged before he's done with school:confused: ... and when he sees the confusion and panic on my face adds in that we still wouldn't get married til he was done with school. With my great fear of commitment I stood up, said "We're not talking about this" and walked away! HA HA:lmao: ! That's the normal reaction most girls have right?:rotfl:

He didn't bring it up again that night and dinner with my parents went fine. I internally had my little freak out and got myself calmed down enough and told him the next day I was ready to talk. He told me he loved me and he wanted to spend forever with me and all that stuff but that he thought if we waited to get engaged til he was done with school, get married right away, etc, etc that it would be too much at once. He told me he knew him being in school would be hard on us (it's a stressful program) and he wanted to show how commited he was by buying a ring and making it official...Plus he said he would be so broke when he got done with school that he wouldn't be able to buy a ring :rotfl: (the program won't allow you to work while you're enrolled). He told me just to think about it and to give him ring options to choose from when I was ready (he says he has horrible taste)... oh and that he was only going to ask me to marry him once so to get the rest of my freaking out done before that:laughing: (he knows me sooooo well)

So when we moved in together in Jan 2008... I still hadn't looked at any rings but was warming up to the idea.

So... living together was going really well and I got over my fear of commitment and went and looked at rings the end of March. Since I'm a nurse I wear gloves all the time and didn't want anything that would get caught on them so I just wanted something simple. I picked out a few styles I liked but really they were all just knock off's of the ring I loved by Vatche. The problem was Vatche only works in 18K (which my mom swears is "too soft") and platinum (which was out of the budget). However, I found a jewelers that had THE Vatche ring in platinum on super sale because they weren't going to carry his line anymore for CHEAPER than the knock off's I was looking at in white gold or paladium. I don't have a great pic of my ring but here's the site...
http://dvatche.com/solitaires.html
It's the x-prong with round center.
ring2.jpg

We had a trip planned to Florida to see my parents the beginning of April. It had crossed my mind that he may propose there but didn't think he would have had enough time to get the ring etc since it had only been a week since we found it. I thought I would know for sure in the airport because I thought he would be nervous trying to go through security with it. He was cool, calm, and collected in the airport so I just figured it wasn't going to happen this trip.

The second night we were there DF had made reservations at this restaurant I love called The Turtle Club which is right on the beach. My parents had already had plans for that night so it made sense for us to have some time alone. This restaurant is fairly hard to get reservations at and they never gaurantee that you'll be seated outside on the beach. In fact, I knew Ryan had made the reservations by e-mail because everytime he called the line was busy so I thought we'd be sitting inside for sure. So when we checked in and they said they had a table waiting for us right on the beach I was thrilled. Right at sunset he got down on one knee... and the rest is all a blur. But I said "YES!" (he only had to ask once) and the entire restaurant started clapping. Right after this really old lady (I mean in her 80's) who seemed rather drunk came up and offered to take our picture. She had obviously never used a digital camera before and put her eye right up to the camera like it was an old point and shoot!:rotfl2:
054.jpg

"Now just wait a minute kids... let me take one more..."
055.jpg

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: So... the pics are awful but we still laugh when we think about that drunk little old lady:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:
And here's the only pic of my e-ring I have right now... I took it on my phone... I'll try to get a better one up later
0410081955a.jpg

After that we couldn't really eat because we were both so excited. So the waiter boxed up our meals and brought us some creme brulee to share for dessert (I always have room for dessert) and we went back to my parents (who knew the whole time) and had a few cocktails.

Soooo... now that it's official let the planning begin!

Adelia, please feel free to borrow any ideas if they will work for you- I have borrowed alot too and have enjoyed the things I have done. Your ring is pretty and the story about the older lady is too much.....thanks for sharing:rotfl:

Congratulations!! Your plans sound great! I may be biased though. Sunset Pointe is a GORGEOUS location and one that holds such special memories for me.

I can't wait to hear about more of your plans. :)

Hi Beth! I'm excited to have another Sunset Pointe bride following along! I haven't found too many here! Lots that started out liking the site but then switched for one reason or another. Do you have any pics or words of wisdom?:worship:

So it didn't take long after the engagement for us to decide on a Disney wedding. I knew I wanted something unconventional as I have been to way too many cookie cutter weddings with horrible food (including my own first wedding:lmao: )! And since my parents moved to Florida when they retired, I found it a great excuse for either a beach wedding or a Disney wedding. Since Ryan's parents would have to travel either way and they LOVE Disney we thought :teacher: ...that Disney would be the best option. DF loves Disney so he took no convincing at all!:yay:

I had found the Disney Wish Book before so we logged on and looked again. Since we're paying for the whole thing ourselves we knew Escape was the most realistic way for us to go, especially since we wanted to keep it simple and not turn it into a huge production. But the sites we were really interested in from looking at the Wishbook was either Sunset Pointe or Sunrise Terrace and both have a max guest count of 8 :scared1: (10 if you include the bride and groom). Now we wanted intimate and simple but this is a little extreme.

We talked about SBP or the Wedding Gazebo but felt they seemed too traditional wedding for what we wanted and those areas aren't very familiar to us so didn't evoke that Disney feeling in us. We thought maybe WP only because you have a castle view but still too formal for us... So after some debate we settled and decided we would find a way to make it work with only 8 guests... (sometimes the bridezilla :bride: in me starts to come out and I still want to invite more people and have it be a... moderate production... I guess that's what a 32 month engagement does to a girl)

So the official list will be...
Us (obviously)...=2
My parents ...=4
His parents...=6
My brother...=7
His brother...=8
and...his two grandmothers...=10 (all our other grandparents are sadly deceased)

So that's it... the full 10! However, we still will have some additional tag a-longs for the trip...which I'll get to later...

Now keep in mind we're in Florida on vacation so I just want to drive up there and plan the whole thing right then! And to make matters worse we had already made plans to go to Universal on this trip! It was like torture... all I wanted to do was be at Disney:headache: ! We had a good time at Universal but it still didn't compare to Disney, as I'm sure you all know. I had been once before when I was younger but since DF had never been- he was the main one pushing to go... which he later admitted was because he thought I would be expecting the proposal for sure if we went to Disney... and he wanted to make sure I was surprised. :confused3 So I had been begging to go to Disney to just look at a few wedding sites but DF kept saying no because he said it would be even more torture to be at Disney and not go in the parks. :sad2:

So our last day at Universal we were just going to finish up our favorite rides one last time and then head to my Uncle's in Tampa. We're walking along and DF puts his hand on his head and goes "Oh no! I think a bird just **** on me!"* :rotfl: I started laughing but he was not amused :rolleyes1 so I turn and hurry off to go get him some paper towels! As I turn around he starts laughing hysterically :rotfl2: and informs me that I got hit too! Sure enough right down the back of my khaki capris! So he goes "Forget this... let's go to Disney".* A quick stop in the bathrooms to get cleaned up, I changed pants in the car, and we were on our way to Disney for our unofficial site visit:cool1:  :thumbsup2 :woohoo: :yay:

So we went to the Polynesian resort first as we knew it was one of our top picks. We loved OHana's when we went on our first trip and I just think the Poly is beautiful. So we set out to find Sunset Pointe! We both loved it and decided we didn't even want to look at Sunrise Terrace. I was a little snap happy and took tons of pics... I'm a very visual person so bear with me if you're not...

It is even more beautitul in person and the castle appears much closer. In person you can also see Space Mountain very clearly and if you look really hard you can see Big Thunder and Splash Mountain (DF's favorite)

DF pouting that he can't go in the park...

And the WP...

Then to your right is the Contemporary... sorry no pic of it

I just love the casual yet romantic feel of this site. We headed off to Kona Cafe for some lunch and to further discuss plans... I wasn't on the boards yet so I don't have any "food porn" but promise in my TR I will remember to include this for everyone. We both had the Kona Club sandwich and it was very good. DF got chips and I got the coleslaw... which I didn't care for... it's Asian coleslaw and was too sweet for my liking. So I ate all DF's chips:rotfl: , they were sweet potatoe chips and they were delicious.

We decided we loved the idea of having a casual wedding here with a tropical theme. I do worry about weather with this site though. We are really planning the whole wedding theme around the resort... so if it rains and we get moved inside I worry about what the backup location will be. I hear it's under construction right now but I'm sure it's some sort of ballroom. I've also heard of brides that get moved to the WP but I think we'd look silly in there with our casual beach themed attire in a formal chapel. I love the lobby at the Poly and think it would be a beautiful back drop for the ceremony if it rains but I doubt they'd let me. I know it wouldn't be very private but I don't really mind if we have a few gawkers... it will be a very short but sweet ceremony.

Anyways here's the lobby...
068.jpg

And me in front of it...
075.jpg

Sorry about the size issues photobucket won't let me resize these 2 for some reason.

At this point DF was ready to head out but I convinced him to make up quick stop at the WP so I could sneak a quick peek.

you have some funny stories in here! The old drunk lady pics are my fave! I can't imagine going to Orlando and not doing disney, you have much more self-control then me :rotfl: , my DF would pout too if I took him the Poly and not MK.
I actually saw a very small wedding at the Ploy when I stayed there in 04', very simple, I remember the bride had a very nice silk spaghetti strap dress and orchids in her hair and bouquet and it was beautiful!

So we walked over to the WP and suddenly I felt a little rude for snooping around because I didn't want to interupt anyone's pre-scheduled planning session or wedding by just showing up. Luckily there was a staff member walking up as we were and she immediately greeted us and was very helpful. We told her we were interested in an Escape at Sunset Pointe but not til 2010 and just wanted to take a quick peek around. She said there was no wedding that afternoon so to take our time and look around and she gave us a folder with info that had the same basic info you find on their sites... minumum expenditures, etc. She asked why we were interested in Sunset Pointe and we told her we wanted a casual tropical feel to the wedding... she then told us that it was her least favorite site and that she would recommend upgrading to a Wishes wedding and having it on the beach by the WP. (Would that be a free upgrade?:lmao: )
I asked her why she didn't like the Sunset Pointe, she said that it's too small of a site and it only holds 8 people (which I knew) and that it's always very windy. It wasn't that day when we were there but I have noticed this in other brides pictures... but that's still not enough to make me switch sites... maybe my hair do on the day though...hmmm. Anyways we thanked her and went to look around more. The WP is beautiful but it just didn't feel like us, and I hated the carpet. The view of the castle through the window is amazing though! I didn't take any pics inside (I'm sure you've all seen it). But I did love the little outside area and think this would be a lovely spot to get married:lovestruc -
085.jpg

086.jpg

I know a lot of people have had pictures taken here but don't know if anyone's gotten married here but I think it would work for a small party. DF wasn't thrilled with the idea as he was already set on our previous plan and doesn't understand why I'm so indecisive and always change my mind:rotfl: But I wanted to post this site anyways bc maybe someone else will want to use it. I'm sure you'd have to book the WP but then it would be your gauranteed back-up!

Hi Adelia! You and DF are adorable!!!

Your dress is so cute in your engagement photo.

Are you staying at the POLY for your honeymoon? You will love it if you are.

Adelia, I just love your story so far! Can't wait to read more as your plans come along :-)

I understand exactly where you are coming from with the cheating former spouse . . . I had a similar experience with my first marriage, unfortunately. I was devastated at the time, but now I'm so grateful for those experiences. I just don't think I'd be able to appreciate how wonderful Brian is if I hadn't gone through what I did. Anyway, a Disney wedding is such as special way to begin your life together.

My favorite part so far is that photo of your dad and fiancee. Happiness doesn't get any more real than that!

Thanks Lynn! I'm so glad you found my PJ! I have looked at tons of pics of your wedding and they are AMAZING! We are hoping to spend 2 weeks at Disney for the wedding. We plan to arrive 1 week before and stay at Carribean Beach with our families. Then we plan to move to Poly the night before the wedding and spend another week there Disneymooning. I saw you stayed there and it looks like you enjoyed it. We're hoping to save enough for a castle view and maybe CL. It's alot of money for the week but think it would be worth it!

I'm sorry you had to go through that as well. I'm glad I've moved on and am stronger now for it. I guess I needed to be a damsel in distress so my real prince charming could come rescue meprincess: !

So we had decided on our tropical theme but I have had a hard time with colors- since I won't have bridesmaids I didn't know where to start. So I looked at tons of different combos and was leaning towards pink and orange... but DF thought it was too girly:sad2: He said he needed at least one manly color but that orange didn't count. I felt a little internal pressure to do christmas colors since we're getting married in December but then what about our theme? So I thought why not take Christmas colors but use a more tropical version of those colors:idea: Since I don't have a wedding party the colors are mainly for flower inspiration and invitations I searched for some paper online. I found this great paper that has some shimmer to it at paperandmore.com and you can order singles of everything (which is good bc I only need 7 invites). I ordered some samples and showed it to DF and he liked it:thumbsup2 So here's what I'm planning on for now...
green_fairway_1_40p.gif
pink_azalea_1_40p.gif

Then we'll use silver accents. I will probably still incorporate a few splashes of other tropical colors like these:
orange_flame_1_40p.gif
aqua_lagoon_1_40p.gif

I'm going to try to make my own invites but I'm not very crafty... I know I have tons of time but I'll probably need the time to figure it out. Luckily I found these boards so I can use someone elses ideas and just try to recreate it:rotfl: . I love the cards and pockets style but I'll do those... later:laughing: ! Hopefully they don't discontinue my papers before that!

Great to hear all of your plans & see all your lovely pics:thumbsup2 . We re getting married in May & like you are having our wedding day dinner at Ohanas & will hopefully be ending the day with a Wishes Cruise on the Grand 1:woohoo: (just am waiting for the 90 day mark to book this.)
We re getting married at SBP though, i originally wanted Sunset Point when we first started wedding planning but weddings are nt held here in May so we changed to SBP. We visited WDW in Oct for our planning session & sat at Sunset Point to watch Wishes, its a truely beautiful location.
Dont let someone sway your decisons just because they said they re not a fan of the location. WP personally is nt for me but i know most brides love it, all the locations offered are beautiful, it just comes down to personal choice. When i read about what the lady said i found it quite rude of her to have been that blunt with you:sad2: .Im sure you did nt ask her for her preference anyway. We walked a round the grounds of the Poly on several occasion as this is where we re staying when we get married & it never was windy at all.

The view a lone at Sunset Point is incredible, you ve made a great choice:) . We re having Randy come over to the Poly after pics at SBP/Boardwalk/Yacht Club just so we can have some shots taken on its beach & at Sunset Point. Photos with Cinderellas castle in the background will look amazing.

Cant wait to hear more :goodvibes

Hi Becca! Thanks for reading! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding- it's almost here! I'm glad to have found a bride who's having similar plans to mine so you can give me some advice! Do you have a PJ? I'm glad to hear it's never been too windy when you've been at Sunset Pointe. I have seen a few wedding pics where the brides dress was blowing in the wind but thought it looked gorgeous! The main thing I worry about was that I wanted my hair half up and half down but think an updo would be more secure. Maybe with enough hairspray it will stay!

So I would love to hear more about your OHana's dinner. How many people will be in your group? What time is your reservation for? Did you have to go through group dining? Have you talked to a manager or anyone at the restaurant to make any special arrangements? Our wedding will only be the 10 people but we have some other family members that will probably be joining us for dinner so our party will be 20-25. What is your timeline? I've heard that with larger groups they limit you to the first seating or to a rather late seating. The early seating will probably work fine for us but I worry that we'll be done too early and have to waste time until our Wishes cruise. Thanks in advance for the help!

So... we've been engaged since April so everyone knows we're engaged...but it's too early to send out any real save the dates...so I decided to send out a little announcement to those who will be coming to the wedding just for fun. I took a photopass picture from our Disney trip last month...

And used the photopass website to make it into a card...

And I used these stamps...

I think they turned out pretty good for being so easy. We sent them to our parents, our brothers, and his grandma's... which is who will be at the wedding itself. We also sent one to his Aunt and her family because they are insistent that they want to come and celebrate with us even though they can't come to the ceremony- they're going to make it a family vacation. DF would really like for her to be at the ceremony itself because he is close with her, she is also his godmother, but also because his grandma is deaf and his aunt is able to interpret for her. I have never heard of Disney bending the rules before on the limit but we're going to ask anyways if we can have an "interpreter" there. If not they will still be spending the rest of the week with us and will be included in the dinner on our wedding night, etc. I feel okay about because they have been clear about the plan from the beginning and were always aware that they wouldn't be at the wedding itself.

So... that makes our group 14 people. Plus our brothers both have pretty serious girlfriends so they will probably be there for everything but the ceremony as well... making it 16 people. Then there are about 20 billion other people my mom keeps trying to add on and I keep telling her NO! My first wedding, between my parents and the in-laws, they invited 500:scared1: people! Luckily only 350 came but I didn't even know some of them! I didn't say much then because my dad was paying for alot of it but it's not going to happen that way this time! We are still debating if we are going to have any more "add-ons" for dinner at OHana's. I think it's a little rude to invite people to come all the way to Florida but not let them come to the ceremony. I have an Aunt, Uncle, and 2 cousins that live in Tampa that really want to come and I think that would be ok because it's not that far for them, that would make 20... but then I feel like we should atleast give the other Aunts and Uncles the option of coming so no one gets their feelings hurt...then it would be 28 people! Then sometimes I really want a few friends there...and it gets totally out of control! Anyone done this before where you have more people at Disney celebrating with you than at the actual wedding? We are planning an at home reception in Michigan so everyone will be included in that.
