Wondering on the pirate party, DW, wants the family to dress-up and major costume. I told her a few things would probably beef suffice. Can anyone give me opinions on this what is the norm. We are taking Disney dream on March 23, 2014.

You will see a wide variety of "costumes" for pirate night. It will vary from the full on Captain Jack Sparrow to wearing only the bandana that DCL gives you. We fall somewhere in between. My boys didn't wear costumes really just their shorts and pirate tees with earrings & eye patches and some beaded necklaces (pirate booty) along with skull and cross bone bandanas. I wore white capris, red tee and tied a pirate scarf around my waist, wore hoop earrings and a white bandana. DH was the least dressed up with only a pirate tee and a bandana. Wear whatever you will be the most comfortable in. :goodvibes

I agree with the pervious poster. You will see a wide variety of costumes for pirate night. I personally like to wear my full costume but I only bring it when I don't have to fly to catch my cruise since my pirate costume requires it's own suitcase. When I have to fly out for my cruise my pirate costume is jeans, pirate themed tshirt and bandana. I've attached a picture of my pirate costume for your viewing pleasure.

We just got off the Magic last week (1st Disney cruise) and i have to say that we felt like we seriously missed the boat (pun intended lol) on the Pirate Party. The majority of people were dressed up either in pirate attires of dressy clothes in black/white/red. There we were in jeans and tees b/c we'd worn our dressy clothes to dinner the night before. My son did have a pirate Mickey hat and an eye patch but we will definitely be better prepared next year.

In our experience, more people go the whole hog on the longer cruises.

The 3 and 4 nighters on the Dream have a lot of new cruisers who are unaware of the dress up nights .. be they posh or pirate!

We dressed up on our first few, but now it's just the bandana tied around my wrist .. how boring is that?!!

Do a search for "disney cruise pirate costume". Some people go all out, so do whatever you want.

Yeah, there really isn't a "norm", it's all over the place. Some people have full theatrical costumes, others just t-shirts and a bandanna. Do whatever you want and have fun!

We didn't really dress up. We don't prefer to. My son has his stuff, but for us, we would rather spend our money elsewhere. So I guess we are the oddballs at the party ;)

We went to the Goodwill store the other night and had fun making a costume up out of that we could find there.
