I heard you ran into Denny a second time, while I was waiting for a drink at the Gurgling Suitcase. It was great to see you. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay at OKW.
I discovered the Surging Seahorse and need to go back there for another one. I think we'll combine it with a trip to DTD when we are there in April.
Nice! I'm jelly. I wish I was going back next month. When does your AP run out?
Our AP runs out Nov 30th and we don't have any plans to renew it. We will to be back in Disney Oct 21st to 26th and that will be our last trip on the current AP.
I used to be an Asics girl, but ended up buying these Brooks Glycerine about month or so before the race. I totally love them. Of course, between the shoes and the inserts I spent well over my usual shoe budget, but they were totally worth it. No regrets. Money actually can buy happiness, especially when it comes to running shoes.
The Brooks Adrenaline is my shoe. I've worn it for ages since it is one of the few shoes that comes in a narrow size. And you are right about running shoes. The right shoe is very important since you can get injuries from the wrong one.
By noon the pipes were still frozen and I had to call and rebook Denny’s flight for Monday. He was concerned that it might take all weekend to deal with this. So $200 later he was rebooked.
And I was going to Florida alone. By myself, with an evening flight, and a rental car.
Cynthia and I had been texting back and forth and she and Ann came to my rescue with the incredibly generous offer of letting me stay with them for the night at the Boardwalk. The BWVs are where I would be checking in the next day, so it was perfect and it definitely erased the anxiety of me having to stay alone off site. I can’t thank them enough for coming to my rescue!
And a shout out to Caitlin who even offered to pick me up from the airport. I love having Florida friends!
That was really nice of Caitlin to pick you up at the airport and for Cynthia and Ann to let you stay with them. It is very nice to have friends like that.
We were back in our rooms by 8:30pm, but yours truly did not get a good night sleep, even though I should have been dreaming of Princesses and such
And for the grand finale - A got a text message at 10pm that Denny’s morning flight was canceled. In fact, everything was canceled on Southwest out of Philly and Baltimore. Fun stuff.
I knew I had to call him directly and let him know ( since he never changed the notification to his phone).
And then after that I never went back to sleep.
I don’t have a picture on my phone of the three of us together. I have to admit - I felt like crapolla from no sleep and I was nervous. I just wanted to start the race and get it over with, so I wasn’t in the picture mood.
But I do have proof that we were together in the staging area and I managed a fake smile.
Your outfits were really cute but what a terrible way to start a race. I can't imagine trying to run a half marathon on no sleep at all.
Everyone says if you can run 10, you can run 13.1. But at my age, I felt my lack of preparation. Maybe it wasn’t lack of preparation. Maybe it was the type of preparation I had done - running all my long runs in the cold winter. Now here I was in the daybreak, in temperatures at least 20-30 degrees higher than what I had trained in. Couple that with no sleep the night before and I had run out of gas.
I think it is harder to run in the humidity, too. But really, considering the lack of sleep, the stress of the frozen pipes, traveling by yourself and Denny having trouble getting to Florida, you didn't really do too bad in that race. You finished 108 out of 648 in your age group. That is pretty darn good, in my opinion.

Your finish time was better than mine when I ran the Disney 1/2 marathon in 2:49. My knee started hurting around the ten mile mark and I had to do a lot of walking. But I made it.
It was during this time that I was texting back and forth with Denny. The same Denny that was supposed to be on the plane and should have been arriving any minute. Yeah - well, that wasn’t happening. His flight had been pushed back to 11:30pm, then 12:30 pm, and then finally departed at 1am.
Of course, by 1am I was already sound asleep, but I did see the text message that informed me of such. I think he also texted me when he landed.
So what time DID Denny finally get to the Boardwalk?
5am.
I made Denny get up at 9am because we had FP’s for Mine Train. I surely wasn’t going to miss that!
Sorry Denny. Your were a real trouper about that.
Dana had to laugh when he heard that you made Denny get up for the Mine Ride fp. That is what I would have done, too.
We also ran into Sue (WoodNymph), but I have no pictures to prove it.
It was a total surprise to run into you and Denny in two unexpected places. If our trips overlap again we'll have to get a picture.
The weather was bad in Philly that evening and I kept my fingers crossed for a flight cancellation, but once again Frontier pulled through when all the flights into Philadelphia were getting canceled.
You are lucky you got out that night. The Orlando airport was full of stranded passengers trying to get to the east coast. Denny was probably very happy that he didn't have to take a delayed flight home after all the trouble he had getting there.
I AM going to make a reservation for next year. Denny wants to do the 10K. I’m undecided whether I should just do the 10 K or go for the 1/2 again. Either way. I plan to be there for PHM weekend.
That sounds like it will be fun. The next time the pipes won't freeze, you'll travel together, and you'll get a good night's sleep. It will make a world of difference.

Dana and I ran one of the Disney 5K races together, which is as far as he will run.
