Oh Florida! An East Meets West Girl's TR: 8/9 p56 & 8/17 p57

Cynthia - I am sorry there was no run this morning, but your run earlier this week looked divine. I am going to try to get an update in this weekend as well. It is supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so I think I can get some serious DIS time in. On Sunday I am going to NYC to see Book of Mormons. Very excited. This will be my first time to NYC to see a play.

Your cronut looks super yummy!

I love all your group shots. They turned out great. I don't think I have nearly that many. Fun!

I remember it was such a gorgeous and warm day. Perfect day to start some vacation!

So sorry to hear about your cat! I hope you have been getting in all the snuggles you can. So sad.

Thanks! We definitely got some last snuggles in, but it was sad to see her uncomfortable. She was so stoic. Cats are tough animals. They really try to hide their pain.

I second that!!! My pets are my family, I talk to them and answer for them and they never disagree with my answer , they just know they are loved !! That makes it both hard and easy when they pass , because they were loved your heart is breaking but you know you gave them a happy loving life !

So well said Rosie. I wish they could talk. I wish they could tell you how they felt. But they can't. You just have to use your best guest and that can be really hard.

Welcome home...so sorry to hear about your cat

Thanks Jen. I really appreciate it. She was a good cat and it was hard to say goodbye.

So sorry about your Jewel. It is tough!! Glad you are home safely. Hope to hear more about your trip soon.

Saying goodbye to Jewel was tough, but I am glad we got home in time just as she started to get sick. That was a blessing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor kitty, it's the absolute worst thing in the world when you know your pet is dying.:hug:

It really did feel like the worst thing in the world last weekend. Part of me wanted to keep her alive because there were times when she looked healthy, but I just knew she had to be suffering if she couldn't eat anymore.

I am so so sorry about Jewel, we are close to that point with my Hank and it breaks my heart.

Thank you! I did NOT expect that at all, but looking back there were some soft signs (Just like there were with Max). I am just thankful that she didn't get really ill until we got back. She was eating and purring straight through the weekend and stopped the morning we got home.

I think you did amazing! You had a rough rough start to the trip and did really well. I think you should be hugely proud of yourself!!!!! I'm proud of you and thrilled to have shared the experience with you.

I don't know that anyone is ever thrilled with their performance, we are all our own worst critics and wish we'd done better.

I don't think I could have done it without you and Anne. Now I know so much better what to expect. There was so much unknown. I'm proud of myself for making the decision and sticking to it. I am also proud of myself for training through the cold weather and doing the best I could. I do think I needed more runs in excess of 10 miles.

Lol, yep, spoiler alert :)

:ssst:

So sorry to hear about your kitty...it's one of the hardest things to go through!

Thank you! And you are so right - it is so hard to lose a pet. I think its their innocence and their undying trust that makes it so hard.

Oh Mary Ellen, my heart just breaks for you. I know the pain that comes with losing a pet and they absolutely are family. Please know you're in my thoughts.

Thanks Rob. Jewel was definitely part of the family. Everyone was pretty heart broken, but I think we all realize it was for the best despite the fact that it was so difficult.

Welcome back Mary Ellen!

Thanks Wendy. I'm at that point now where I don't even feel like I was gone. I hate that! :worried:

I am so sorry, again, to hear about poor Jewel. There really isn't much worse than losing a precious pet.

Thank you! Losing Jewel was tough and very unexpected. We miss her. :cat:

MaryEllen, I know I said it on FB, but I'm so sorry to hear about Jewel. It is so hard losing a member of the family.

Thanks Kathy. We certainly miss our little fur baby. I know you've been through it yourself. It's tough.

I was glad to have run into you, too, and Denny twice. OKW was very nice, although I think we would have enjoyed it a little more if the weather had been better. We were in building 35, room 3520, right across from the Turtle Pond bus stop. The 2BR villa was great for our extended family of 7, and we put the washer and especially the dryer to good use with the total rain out on Saturday.

I heard you ran into Denny a second time, while I was waiting for a drink at the Gurgling Suitcase. It was great to see you. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay at OKW. I bet the 2BR was fantastic.

I agree with you that the weather was crappy. Sunday at the PHM was lovely and the sun didn't really come out again for me until the following Sunday. It was a bummer, for sure.

Longtime DIS lurker, I just had to step out of the woodwork to voice approval for the cronut! YES! Awesome anytime, but especially after a red-eye.

Loving your report!

:welcome: guestswobags. Thanks for joining us. We are trying to get this thing up and running and again.

That picture of the cronut that Cynthia posted does looks pretty amazing!

Uh oh, that sounds ominous about Denny's travels :(

Oh yeah - it was bad. Trust me. But I am going to write about it. I have an update all ready to go! :thumbsup2

Denny had travel issues.............??? :rolleyes2

Shocker, right???? :rotfl:

On this new DIS, a very PAINFUL process..........

There are a lot of things I like about the new DIS, but I don't like that the pages are so long. And sometimes I just can't find my spot. I am sure I have probably missed more than a few replies. I figure the more I work with it, the better it will be.

Hi Ladies! :) Just making some rounds to see what's what around here. Been over a week that I've had a chance to really scope things out. Welcome back, if I hadn't said it before. You both finished and well... that's pretty darned amazing!

Thanks. You obviously didn't miss much here because we haven't been that great at updating. Thank goodness Cynthia from update for us! ::yes:: Hope things are going well for you in school!

Marv, once you get used to it and discover all the new features, it's a GREAT new DIS! :goodvibes

Like I said - the new DIS has some great features, but I am still struggling with it sometimes. I don't like the multi quote system all that well, but I'm hanging in there.

I have not been on the Dis much in the past few days, but I am so sorry to hear about your little Kitty.

Thank you. We put her to sleep last week. It was very sad, but the right thing to do.

Hello Ladies- just catching up- LOVED reading about your surprise, MEK! So nice to see people unexpectedly that way, and riding rides with DISfriends? That's the BEST! :yay:

Hey Ellen! It WAS quite the surprise. And riding ride with DIS friends IS the best! We know that for sure!

And so sorry about your cat.:hug::hug:

Thanks.
Love that mug on the verandah, Cynthia! :flower1:

Can you believe she had that beautiful spring weather right before our PHM trip? Lucky girl!

Looking forward to reading more!

You got it!

Ok loser here is called out but yes I am on another work trip and sadly, flying over the ocean means no wifi! Lol. I am hoping to write an update while here but so far have had little computer time.

Totally not a loser. You are doing much better than I am! Can't believe you had to go on another work trip. You have been heading over to Hawaii quite a bit these days.

Then again I "could" have been on the computer and DIS but...ran 7 miles in Hawaii instead. Not terribly sorry for that. I am however sorry I wore shorts and not knickers. Silly me left my new shorts that I wore for PHM at home so they'd be clean for the St. Patricks day race we are doing Sunday. Kind of forgot why I stopped wearing shorts for runs over 6 miles in warm weather. My thighs reminded me.

Running is far more important that DISing and your run just looked so lovely. Totally jealous. But I told you that already. Good luck in your Sunday race. Sounds fun.

Didn't help that I lost a full day to frozen downed computers. Good/bad news is I've a new work one but it definitely took a chink out of my free time.

That's a complete bummer.

So....hope to get an update up tomorrow night. Well, really Friday am given the time difference for most!

And you certainly served it right up. Way to go!

I'm really sorry to hear about Jewel Mary Ellen. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks Shan! I really appreciate that. We were sad to see her go to kitty heaven.

@MEK So sorry about Jewel. You did the right thing. We had to put our 18 year old princess down last year and it was the hardest thing that DH and I did. She was not the first cat we put down but she was pretty special to DH and me. We still wish we had more time with her and that she was here with us; but we knew it was the right decision. Her quality of life was not fun for those last 3 months and we could see it in her eyes those last few days. That's when we knew that we were being selfish. Peace and long life to you and your family.

Thank you. I'm sorry about your princess. 18 - wow! I keep hoping that one of my cats will make it that long, but it hasn't happened yet. That must have been so hard for you. And I know exactly what you mean about being selfish. I really didn't want to feel that way with Jewel.

I do recall riding SE and the Land. Especially the Land as I'd never been before lol! Soarin'? Maybe. If so it was just Mary Ellen and I. I think I will stop here though as I bet the others have way more to fill in before I get to the rest of our day/evening but that is where my pictures pick up.

Sorry for the short update!!!!

I love this picture. That's my favorite.

And, yes, we did ride LWTL and we also rode SE. I have pictures, don't worry, but my update is going to be a recap of the PHM. I guess I feel the need to relive it!

Oh my, I could go for a Cronut right now...so yummy. So now what my hips need...but I don't care. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I hear ya about the hips. My hips are still recovering from my last trip. :faint:

Great pictures of you, Mary Ellen, Marv, Pat (and then Rosie and Carol joining you later).

I totally agree. I love the pictures she got. They're so much better than mine.

You had never been on The Land? I can't believe it.

Wait, did she just say that? I am pretty shocked myself!

I hope you straighten things out with the $40.

Me too!

It does look like cheese but I'm guessing that it is the parsley potatoes because there are little flecks of green things there.

I'll buy that!

We were there on Feb 27th and saw some of the topiaries boxed up. We'll be back in April to check it all out. :)

Nice! I'm jelly. I wish I was going back next month. When does your AP run out?

I remember when the old trip stuff would remain in MDE for quite awhile. It was nice to have that record. Now I take a screenshot of the fp's on my cell phone. It gives me the dual benefit of being able to look at the list without opening the app and having a record of what we did. I use the notes feature on MDE, too, so that the times for fireworks, etc are listed, too. You're so organized that you probably already do that. :)

She may be that organized, but I'm not. Great idea. I think I am going to use it! ::yes::

Hope you sorted out the $40.

Me too!

That cronut looks delicious. It is a pretty interesting mix of pastries, isn't it?

It is. I know I said this before, but I didn't love it when I first tried it, so I have put it back on the list for a do-over.

What great DisMeet photos. You all look like you're having a great time.

We had a blast. It was a great way to kick off our trip! :cheer2:

It's easy to not have done every single attraction at WDW. There's just so much to see. Glad you ticked The Land off that list.

There are still a few attractions I have never done - like the speedway in the MK. But several DISers have convinced me that it is better to just leave it off the list because its not the most comfortable ride.

Ahhh, that cronut looks heavenly! :cloud9:

It really does look delicious, doesn't it? Makes me totally want to eat one right now.

Awesome meet pictures!!! :goodvibes

Cynthia got great pictures of our Epcot day. Love them!

So sorry to hear about kitty cat. :( Not a fun thing to deal with so soon after your trip!

Thanks. I really appreciate it. And, yes, it was not expected. I am just grateful that she didn't get sick until we got home.

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!

I think I am finally caught up with
replies.

Hi Everyone. Yes, it’s me…long lost DISer. You know - the one who takes forever to get back on the DIS after vacation.

Now it's time to an update. I hope there are still some readers out there!

And then I will be checking out all the TRs I have been missing out on.

So here it is - the PHM Short Story

Seems I am even slower than usual this time, so I am going to “try” to make it up to you with the abbreviated version of my PHM trip. (And don't forget to check out Cynthia's update on p17. I will update the chapter links tonight!)

But before I begin - thanks for all the condolences regarding my cat, Jewel. I put her to sleep a week ago. It was very sad to come home and discover that Jewel was ill. It was especially difficult because both of my boys had been home over the weekend and they said she seemed “fine”.

I don’t think she lost her appetite until sometime on Sunday, the day we were due to come home. She actually left food in her bowl and I was surprised to see it when we got home later that evening.

But, of course, it wasn’t until Monday morning that I realized something was seriously wrong. And off to the vet we went. All blood work was completely normal. But she was limping and had two growths or tumors or whatever you want to call them on her leg. The vet didn’t feel any internal tumors and gave her steroids and an antibiotic. But poor Jewel never ate again. She drank a few times, but that was it.

We had a snowstorm during the week and waited until Friday to put her to sleep. It was devastating to all because it just wasn’t cut and dry. Why would a tumor on her leg cause her to stop eating? Of course, I am sure she must have had cancer elsewhere. But there were times when she didn’t look ill at all.

Anyway, Nick came home and dug her a grave in the frozen soil in the back of our yard. We have a pretty larger yard and we live in a fairly rural area, so burying our cats is something we’ve always done.

Jewel was a stray. We found her in the back yard. It made sense to bury her where we found her. She was a good cat. Very low maintenance. Never sick a day in her life. Very loyal and laid back. We’ll miss her.

I took this picture of her shortly before we left because it was very unusual for her to get up on the kitchen table.

So on to the abridged edition of the PHM story. Please note - this story is written with only pictures from my phone. I have not even started to download my regular pictures.

A week before the race, on my taper weekend, we decided we couldn’t stand the cold anymore. We had one more week until vacation, but needed a bit of a road trip as cabin fever had taken hold, so we (well actually Denny) suggested that we drive to Cape May NJ for the afternoon.

OK, I was up for that. We didn’t want to head south because there was supposed to be snow coming up from the south.

The roads to Cape May are pretty much all backroads, with little highway, so it took about an hour longer than I thought it would. I must say, I was shocked at the number of run down and abandoned houses in that area of South Jersey.

When we arrived it was bitter cold and the first thing we did was find a bar/restaurant. We found a place called the Empty Mug or Ugly Mug or something along those lines that was packed with people from NY and Philly.

After liquid sustenance and some food, we walked around the beach area and were delighted to find that the sun had come out.

Easy to tell it was winter by this picture. This place really looks abandoned.

I love the Victorian architecture in Cape May. How appropriate since in one week’s time we would be at the Boardwalk and Beach Club Resorts.

I swear the sun came out just for us!

What?

Closed?

Denny told me to take a picture of this

A bicycle of seashells. Gotta love it.

Back to the main square and you could tell it was already late afternoon.

It was a long way to go for a couple hours, but we definitely needed to see and do something a little new and different.

True Story - Denny and I actually met on a bike ride to Cape May. A friend and I had planned to ride from Dewey Beach DE to the Cape May Ferry and then into town and up the NJ coast. That friend invited Denny to join us and, well as they say….the rest is history.

So visiting Cape May on Valentine’s Day seemed fitting.

The work week before our departure was BUSY. I had to work 52 hours and then get on the plane Friday night.

I managed to get all my packing done in record time.

Here is my PHM outfit, minus the wings and visor

And the shoes that would take me through the castle. I used to be an Asics girl, but ended up buying these Brooks Glycerine about month or so before the race. I totally love them. Of course, between the shoes and the inserts I spent well over my usual shoe budget, but they were totally worth it. No regrets. Money actually can buy happiness, especially when it comes to running shoes.

And just shopping for the other parts of my costume proved challenging. Of course, all the sparkle stuff was ordered from sparkle athletics. They were out of blue capes when I ordered (in part, as Cynthia suggested - due to the frozen craze), so I ordered grey, which was really supposed to be silver, but looked more grey. So I found a grey tank at the UA outlet, a blue sports bra at the champion outlet, and my compression shorts at the Nike outlet. Seriously? I shopped harder for that stuff than my regular wardrobe. It took me about two hours to try on multiple garments at multiple stores. I felt pretty good after everything was selected.

Finally Thursday was here, One more sleep.

But it was on that night that disaster stuck.

OK, so maybe it wasn’t a true disaster, but it certainly screwed up our plans - big time.

Twice a month, on Thursdays, someone comes in to clean my house.

Well, it was BITTER cold the week before we left. And for us that means the chance of our upstairs bathroom pipes freezing. To prevent frozen pipes we leave the vanity open and the water running.

But today was cleaning day and the lovely lady that cleans our houses came at 0800 in the morning.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Yup - she shut off the water running in the sink and she closed the vanity.

In her defense, I would probably do the same thing.

It’s logical.

But not when its 10 degrees out.

Of course, we didn’t warn her so she certainly wasn’t responsible for what happened next.

Yup - you guessed it. When Denny went upstairs to flush the toilet and run all the water hard before we went to bed…… well…..

the sink is frozen. solid.

Denny stayed up all night trying to unfreeze the pipes in the sink, but to no avail.

By morning we realized that we needed professional help and that Denny might not been able to fly down with me.

By noon the pipes were still frozen and I had to call and rebook Denny’s flight for Monday. He was concerned that it might take all weekend to deal with this. So $200 later he was rebooked.

And I was going to Florida alone. By myself, with an evening flight, and a rental car.

Oh brother. I don’t drive when I am in Florida, but to rebook the car would have cost me another couple hundred dollars. On top of that, I had a reservation to stay off site, which is what we usually do when we fly in late.

I called Member Services. No studios available.

Cynthia and I had been texting back and forth and she and Ann came to my rescue with the incredibly generous offer of letting me stay with them for the night at the Boardwalk. The BWVs are where I would be checking in the next day, so it was perfect and it definitely erased the anxiety of me having to stay alone off site. I can’t thank them enough for coming to my rescue!

And a shout out to Caitlin who even offered to pick me up from the airport. I love having Florida friends!

So I didn’t get a fake monorail picture on arrival, but I did get this

And this

the gorgeous view from Cynthia and Ann’s room. They had a day pass arranged for me, so I could get into the room, and there was a parking permit waiting for me on arrival.

Cynthia and Ann were heading back from EMH at Epcot when I arrived and Cynthia even brought me a rita from ESPN, which was delicious and definitely needed.

We stayed up for a few hours just chatting and then we set the alarm so we could watch the 10K race from the balcony

That was really fun, although we got scolded by the next door neighbor for waking him up with our cheering.

Look at the VIEW! So jelly! I wish I owned at BWV.

Speaking of which, when I went to check in the next morning the CM’s comment was “I see you stay here a lot”.

Darn straight. It’s my #1 go to DVC resort. Love it there! Can’t wait to go back in August for 6 nights in a 2BR!

Check out this view of the Yacht Club

I just couldn’t stop taking pictures. And these were just my phone pics. :faint:

Cynthia and Ann went with me to go pick up my race packet. It was CROWDED when we got there with parking all over the grass.

Nobody posing here post race

Solo pic

Group pic

We hit up the expo for an hour or so.

I purchased some yurbuds, a new pair of sunglasses (which I definitely needed since I always end up wearing one of Denny’s ten pairs), and a running PHM tank.

When we got back to the resort Cynthia had to do the sewing to our costumes and I set off to upgrade my ticket to an AP and purchase TIW.

I never did go into a park this day, which works to my advantage because now I have an extra day for next year!

So spoiler alert - I AM going to make a reservation for next year. Denny wants to do the 10K. I’m undecided whether I should just do the 10 K or go for the 1/2 again. Either way. I plan to be there for PHM weekend.

And, oops - I forget to tell you that at this point our bathroom sink pipes had long thawed and Denny had moved his flight to Sunday (race) morning. He was due to get to the resort around 10am. Even though he was missing the race, he was still on track to meet us for breakfast.

Oh yeah - and I also checked into my room. I had a refurbed room was a super cool view of the ToT when I sat on my bed.

That evening we had our pre race meal at Artist Point at the WL

Forget the carbo load. I was going for pure protein.

Since we had an extra seat (due to Denny not being there) we were able to invite Christine (2excited2sleep), who now is a Florida resident. Lucky girl!

We were back in our rooms by 8:30pm, but yours truly did not get a good night sleep, even though I should have been dreaming of Princesses and such

I also had my race outfit ready to go

But just as I was drifting off Denny texted me to say “good luck”.

Fifteen minutes later there was loud knocking on the door next to mine. Woke me right up.

And for the grand finale - A got a text message at 10pm that Denny’s morning flight was canceled. In fact, everything was canceled on Southwest out of Philly and Baltimore. Fun stuff.

I knew I had to call him directly and let him know ( since he never changed the notification to his phone).

And then after that I never went back to sleep.

My nerves got the best of me and at 2am I got up to have coffee. At 3am I was in Cynthia and Ann’s room finishing our final preparations.

Getting to the staging area was easy.

In my fog, before I knew it, we were there.

I don’t have a picture on my phone of the three of us together. I have to admit - I felt like crapolla from no sleep and I was nervous. I just wanted to start the race and get it over with, so I wasn’t in the picture mood.

But I do have proof that we were together in the staging area and I managed a fake smile.

The three of us walked together to the corrals. We got a text from Danielle and we were able to briefly say hi to her and Caitlin before they went to their corrals.

Seriously, having Ann and Cynthia there to lead the way was a godsend. I would have been totally clueless.

Hugs all around when we separated.

I was in Corral G and they were in C.

I took a few pics to calm my nerves.

There was a big screen at the front of the corrals and the PA system was nice and loud, so it was easy to hear what was happening.

Continued In the Nest Post....

I decided to try to run with the 2:30 pace group. I had met the pacer the day before at the Expo and she seemed delightful. I thought this might help keep me focused and I liked that they were supposed to walk a minute every mile.

So I slowly made my way up to the pace group.

Time for the race to start. Wheelchairs first and then the elite

The race started around 5:35 for the elite runners. Our corral left about 5:53. It really didn’t take long to start. I was worried it would seem like an eternity and I was worried I would need a last minute bio break, but neither of those things happened.

At the beginning of the race I felt wonderful. I enjoyed the pacer (I think her name was Marie). She was delightful. She talked constantly and for every area where there were picture opportunities she would make us call out loud “2:30 rocks”. I learned a lot about Marie as we were running along in the dark. She is a school teacher and she paces marathons all over the US and the world. She is older than I am and has people recognize her every time she runs. In fact, a runner passed us and called out “Hey Marie”.

I loved running with the pace group, but sadly I was not able to sustain the pace. I stopped at every water stop and this is where I ran into problems. I just couldn’t catch back up, even though the pace group was also supposed to stop. In the shear number of runners, it was hard to keep my eyes on the balloons whenever there was a water/walk stop. I was able to run at Marie’s pace, but I could NOT walk as fast as her. Sounds crazy, I know, but she could walk like nobody’s business.

I managed to have her in my sight until the 10K mark, but after that I knew there was no hope.

So I was on my own for the second half of the race.

I knew by mile 8 that I was going to struggle a bit to finish the race. By now daylight was breaking through and I could feel some humidity. I found myself walking more at the water stops, but I managed to convert back to running between the stops. I think at mile 8 I texted Cynthia to let her know I was walking some. But mile 10 I texted her to let her know I was mostly walking. Here’s where it got tough.

Everyone says if you can run 10, you can run 13.1. But at my age, I felt my lack of preparation. Maybe it wasn’t lack of preparation. Maybe it was the type of preparation I had done - running all my long runs in the cold winter. Now here I was in the daybreak, in temperatures at least 20-30 degrees higher than what I had trained in. Couple that with no sleep the night before and I had run out of gas.

And then the self doubt started.

What if I pass out?

What if I don’t finish.

And that kept me walking more because I knew time didn’t matter. I just had to finish.

My mile 12 we had reached Epcot and the spectators saved me! Not kidding. Their encouragement was so infectious. I got my second wind.

At mile 13 I saw Pat and Marv. Well, actually they saw me and screamed my name SO loud. Thank you Marv and Pat.

Here is a proof picture of me running in my complete outfit. And the best part - I am actually RUNNING and not walking.

There were tons of photographers in Epcot. I know I look like I am dying, but believe me - I look quite a bit worse in some of the other pictures that I didn’t bother to copy.

The finish line!

And a seriously ugly picture of me with my medal

It took me a little while to catch up with Cynthia and Ann. I went to sit at one of the first aide tents and suck down some more water and gatorade.

I was so relieved to be done.

Yes, I was a little disappointed that I hadn’t done better. But overall, I realized that for someone who didn’t make the commitment until summer and hadn’t done long runs in FOREVER, this was a big deal.

Here’s my certificate

I was also so pleased with how the race was organized. I highly recommend this race to anyone who wants to do their first half marathon. It was so well supported and so well run. I really did feel special when I finished it. When I first started running and doing races, back in the day, there were no events designed to really bolster someone’s spirits or sense of accomplishment. Having events like this is so empowering. Thanks Disney. I am glad I have the financial means to be able to support doing a race like this. And, and I know I can’t say it enough, I feel so fortunate to have made great Disney friends that really supported and encouraged me to do this.

Thank you!

We took the bus back to the Boardwalk, as opposed to walking back through Epcot. Seriously - if I had to find Epcot from the staging area I don’t think I could have. I had no idea where we were in the parking lot.

On the way back Denny texted me to tell me he had canceled his Southwest flight and was able to get a seat on a 9pm flight leaving Wilmington DE on Frontier. And he saved money, too. Way to go Denny!

I was still on a high, so despite the fact that I had next to no REM sleep in the last 36+ hours, I decided I still wanted to go to breakfast as planned.

Yum!

More Yum!

Yes - no sleep had made me delirious

I also remembered from our May trip that standing next to princesses makes me feel really big. They are so darn small.

After breakfast I went back to the Boardwalk to take a much needed nap. It was the most perfect pool day, but I knew I needed sleep a lot more.

Cynthia and Ann invited me to have dinner with them at Beaches and Cream, but I decided to head back into Epcot by myself and grab a beer and some fish and chips.

I sat in one of my favorite spots in Merry Old England.

with company

I had a little bit of time to kill before our big meet at the Ditch

We met up with Marv and Pat: Dawn, Dale, and Caitlin; Danielle, Jackie, Popadon and the rest of their crew. Sadly, we have no group shot of this meeting, which is a major fail on all our parts. By the time everyone had a margarita, or their beverage of choice, all bets were off. We relocated to a group of tables in Norway and never even watched Illuminations. Clearly no one in our group was a newbie.

Some of us had shots of tequila to celebrate!

We stayed until we were kicked out of the tables. Imagine that? We were actually asked to leave. :faint:

Danielle walked back to the BWV with Cynthia, Ann, and I. I probably would have had one more drink at the Bel Vue lounge except:

  1. There were quite a few people at the bar when we first arrived.
  2. I started getting seriously tired. So tired that I started to pass out in my chair.

Sorry, Cynthia, I know this is NOT the best picture of you.

It was during this time that I was texting back and forth with Denny. The same Denny that was supposed to be on the plane and should have been arriving any minute. Yeah - well, that wasn’t happening. His flight had been pushed back to 11:30pm, then 12:30 pm, and then finally departed at 1am.

Of course, by 1am I was already sound asleep, but I did see the text message that informed me of such. I think he also texted me when he landed.

So what time DID Denny finally get to the Boardwalk?

5am.

See, you don’t have to live on the West Coast to have a red eye flight.

I made Denny get up at 9am because we had FP’s for Mine Train. I surely wasn’t going to miss that!

Sorry Denny. Your were a real trouper about that.

Of course, I had to show off my medal and my new sunglasses.

Yup - every chance I got!

Even at the bus stop

I know I have gone on far too long with the highlights of my PHM trip, but here are a few more phone pictures of the trip that I would like to share.

Sorry - couldn’t resist!

We spent a couple nights at Cape Canaveral and I finally got a chance to ride on one of these. Fun!

I love the Cocoa Beach Pier

Walking along the beach at our resort

Watching one of the Carnival cruise ships come in from the balcony of our room at the holiday inn vacation club.

Running to the end of the pier at the Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral. This is where the cruise ships exit.

Returning back to the world

Our view from our room at the Beach Club Villas

Meeting Bo

Meeting Erika (Jeremy’smom)

Meeting Alicia (while Alex chased Landon around)

I also met MaryEllen and her husband Joe, but those pictures are on my regular camera.

Oh wait - I copied on from FB

We also ran into Sue (WoodNymph), but I have no pictures to prove it.

We also had dinner with Marv and Pat, but those pictures are on my regular camera and will come with the PP pictures. Sorry guys. Wish I had one ready to
post.

Finally rode Splash Mountain when we weren’t the only ones in ponchos!

Our last morning

Ode to the Turtle Krawl

We ended our trip wondering around DTD or Disney Springs or whatever its called these days. I have to say that this was a sleeper hit of the trip. I was VERY impressed with the new improved shorter walkway from SSR, and I loved seeing how the entire area is shaping up. I honestly think my kids are going to be disappointed when they see how nice it is, especially since we are booked at the BWV and not SSR. I contemplated a split stay, but just don’t want the hassle.

Has that outdoor bar always been at the Rainforest?

The new boat launch near SSR and DTD

A view of the new bridge from the SSR Congress Park area

Our flight that evening was due to leave at 6:30pm. We had arranged months and months ago to fly into Wilmington on a Frontier flight because it was SO much cheaper. The weather was bad in Philly that evening and I kept my fingers crossed for a flight cancellation, but once again Frontier pulled through when all the flights into Philadelphia were getting canceled.

As you can see, the Wilmington/New Castle Airport is not a high tech operation.

And we were warned multiple times to watch our steps when getting off the plane. Everything was solid ice, including the very cold and frozen hand rails.

Welcome Home. Yuck!

One final note. I brought home lots of souvies this trip - from the wonderful gifts from Ann and Cynthia, the cool stuff I got at the Expo, the purchases made during my rainy day trip to the Vera Bradley and Disney outlets, my new coffee mug, and my memento for running through the castle (purchased in large part due to a gift card that I won from Katie at XXXXXXX Travel).

Thanks for reading about my PHM trip. I am getting so far behind with all my trips that it may be a year until I get to this one, so I thought it would be fun to share now.

In my next update - back to Epcot with the gals and Marv.

Another congratulations to you on finishing the Princess Half! :cheer2: Despite your issues (I can't imagine running on NO SLEEP!), you worked through them and you did it! I love your medal! If only I were a runner, I would totally take part in a RunDisney event.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time - so many DISmeets, margaritas, and tons of fun. Thank you for telling us all about your trip! :goodvibes

WOW! That's one heck of an update.

Sorry about the hassle with your pipes. Living where I am, that's such a foreign concept to me. I would have no idea what to do and how to cope. The shame of it all was that your DH had to stay behind and not see you run, plus deal with it....and then catch the red-eye into Orlando.
LOVE your outfit (in fact, I love all the running outfits from the 3 of you). That's one amazingly coordinated Frozen inspired outfit. Or were you inspired from Tink and her friends? In which case....that would make you Silvermist!
Congrats on finishing the PHM! I can't run at all; so I'm in total admiration.
You sure got a few DisMeets done in this short trip.
That's a great Ani and Alex charm. Enjoy!
Going home to the cold would have been hard after this trip.

I've never been to Cape May. It looks like someplace straight out of the turn of the century. The architecture is amazing but I bet it looks a lot better and has a much better vibe when it's summertime.
Glad you finally got on an airboat. Fun ride, isn't it? I used to watch Gentle Ben when I was a child and it was always a childhood dream to get on an airboat for me. The first opportunity I had, I ticked that one off the list.

Thank you for posting that picture of Jewel. She was a lovely looking furbaby.

Thanks for sharing this trip with us.

So I went to update my links and I realize that none of them work properly. I could have sworn they all worked properly when they were first set. Does anyone know how to set links directly to the post????

I didn't try them all but the link that says Everybody love Epcot took me to that post. :)

Mary Ellen that was a Marathon of an UPDATE!!! I am in awe that you completed the race !!! Only way OI could is in a wheelchair with someone pushing me !!!:rotfl2:

I would have to search for the pix of our meet but it is the same as yours!! I am pretty sure we did the Land and SE together , but don't think we could have done Soarin' Although our meet was brief I was sooo glad to finally meet you and hopefully you will be at October 2016 meet with Liesa !!!

I heard you ran into Denny a second time, while I was waiting for a drink at the Gurgling Suitcase. It was great to see you. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay at OKW.
I discovered the Surging Seahorse and need to go back there for another one. I think we'll combine it with a trip to DTD when we are there in April. :)

Nice! I'm jelly. I wish I was going back next month. When does your AP run out?
Our AP runs out Nov 30th and we don't have any plans to renew it. We will to be back in Disney Oct 21st to 26th and that will be our last trip on the current AP.

The Brooks Adrenaline is my shoe. I've worn it for ages since it is one of the few shoes that comes in a narrow size. And you are right about running shoes. The right shoe is very important since you can get injuries from the wrong one.

By noon the pipes were still frozen and I had to call and rebook Denny’s flight for Monday. He was concerned that it might take all weekend to deal with this. So $200 later he was rebooked.

And I was going to Florida alone. By myself, with an evening flight, and a rental car.

That was really nice of Caitlin to pick you up at the airport and for Cynthia and Ann to let you stay with them. It is very nice to have friends like that. :)

We were back in our rooms by 8:30pm, but yours truly did not get a good night sleep, even though I should have been dreaming of Princesses and such

Your outfits were really cute but what a terrible way to start a race. I can't imagine trying to run a half marathon on no sleep at all. :(

I think it is harder to run in the humidity, too. But really, considering the lack of sleep, the stress of the frozen pipes, traveling by yourself and Denny having trouble getting to Florida, you didn't really do too bad in that race. You finished 108 out of 648 in your age group. That is pretty darn good, in my opinion. :) Your finish time was better than mine when I ran the Disney 1/2 marathon in 2:49. My knee started hurting around the ten mile mark and I had to do a lot of walking. But I made it.

It was during this time that I was texting back and forth with Denny. The same Denny that was supposed to be on the plane and should have been arriving any minute. Yeah - well, that wasn’t happening. His flight had been pushed back to 11:30pm, then 12:30 pm, and then finally departed at 1am.

5am.

I made Denny get up at 9am because we had FP’s for Mine Train. I surely wasn’t going to miss that!

Sorry Denny. Your were a real trouper about that.
Dana had to laugh when he heard that you made Denny get up for the Mine Ride fp. That is what I would have done, too. :D

We also ran into Sue (WoodNymph), but I have no pictures to prove it.
It was a total surprise to run into you and Denny in two unexpected places. If our trips overlap again we'll have to get a picture. :)

The weather was bad in Philly that evening and I kept my fingers crossed for a flight cancellation, but once again Frontier pulled through when all the flights into Philadelphia were getting canceled.
You are lucky you got out that night. The Orlando airport was full of stranded passengers trying to get to the east coast. Denny was probably very happy that he didn't have to take a delayed flight home after all the trouble he had getting there.

I AM going to make a reservation for next year. Denny wants to do the 10K. I’m undecided whether I should just do the 10 K or go for the 1/2 again. Either way. I plan to be there for PHM weekend.
That sounds like it will be fun. The next time the pipes won't freeze, you'll travel together, and you'll get a good night's sleep. It will make a world of difference. :) Dana and I ran one of the Disney 5K races together, which is as far as he will run.

Let's be real, is anyone really fun when they get hungry? I surely am not. :rotfl2:

It is the cronut kiosk and nothing more.

The kiosks being closed was like they were taunting you! I felt the same way. My next trip I just miss F&G by one weekend, so it's kind of sad. But I'll get over it I suppose.

I'm with you, I get caught up with everything too when I come back from vacation and take forever to get back to regular DIS time.

I'm so sorry about Jewel. I had that happen with my cat 4 years ago. Came home from our first trip to Paris and found out she was sick. It was rough.

Money can absolutely buy happiness when it comes to running shoes!

We had to have a friend go to our house while we were gone more often than she normally would have to make sure the pipes didn't freeze when we had the subzero temperatures too.

You and your cowbells getting scolded. Haha.

Yay for you doing the PHM again next year! I'm doing the regular half in January. :) Caitlin is kind enough to be doing it with me, so I'm excited.

That is awesome that you had a great pacer! It was really difficult for me to find a pace let alone keep it. But, this was my first outing, so I'm sure I will only get better with time.

Standing next to Princesses makes me feel ginormous! You have no reason to feel big next to them.

I do have some group pictures, just not necessarily with everyone. Not great, but here they are. I was taking stealth shots. They're just not planned pictures.
