OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

After years of reading these cake threads, I'm finally ordering one! I called the cake hot line & ordered a 2 tier mini wedding cake. We're celebrating our 35th anniversary with next month, so I'm surprising DH during our dinner at Yachtsman's Steakhouse. Ordered chocolate cake/ chocolate buttercream/ dark chocolate mousse filling ( I know- chocolate overload- but that's his favorite cake combo!)

We have the Tables in Wonderland card. I decided to get it at a dinner instead of delivering to room, so I can get the discount. We are also doing dinner at Citrico's. Trying to decide if I should order 1 there too & compare. ;)

It was vanilla, with vanilla buttercream frosting, no special filling, just the vanilla frosting between the layers. I didn't request a special filling, so I'm not sure what is available. I ordered it about ten days before our trip, using the number on the first page of this thread. I was quoted $35 and that's what the final cost was. They added it to my bill at Crystal Palace. I wasn't crazy over feeling obligated to tip 18% of the cake cost, but oh well, I did anyway.

They supplied the candle and lit it for us. I didn't even think to bring a candle.

The servers made a fuss over the cake. DD enjoyed the extra attention. Even Tigger came over to see what was going on. :goodvibes

The cake is perfect! I've been trying to figure out what to do for my turning 3 year olds bday. We will be at crystal Palace the day before her bday for lunch so something like this would be perfect. :) Did you tell them you wanted pink and the ears? Great pic!

Yes. I asked for pink frosting and told the CM who took my order that I'd seen plenty of Mickey ears but was wondering if they could make Minnie ears. She said they could. We were happy with the cake. It was very pretty. :goodvibes

Ok so I couldn't figure out how to add pics to this post but I was hoping someone could give me some advice, I recently sent in a request to have a cake made up for my wife for her birthday which was suppose to be brought out at the 50's prime time on her birthday. Now I sent in a couple of pictures of our wedding cake and asked to have a mini version of it done. Just two layers and nothing really fancy. This was my exact request to Disney.

Looking to have it 2 tiered with a vanilla cake on the bottom with strawberry filling and on top a chocolate cake with raspberry filling. I would like it covered in whipped cream as well as have the piping of the dots that form the diamond pattern with red tops on the tips of the diamonds. What I also wanted to take from the demo picture cake was the little Mickey hat on top with chocolate if you could do this.

So I sent in a picture of the size I was looking for as well which was basically a little bigger than cupcakes size. I was quoted $150. That sounds really high to me. Any opinions on this because I really want to do this but that is just too expensive after everything else we will be sending. help please
:(

Do they know you want a mini cake? Because they normally don't let you do two different combos of cake and filling in a mini cake, so I'm thinking they are quoting you for a full-size 2-tier cake with a 10-inch on the bottom and a 6-inch on the top ($150 is actually a pretty good price for something that size!).

Can anybody tell me if I can order a customer 6" cake from Boardwalk bakery and pick it up? Does it have to be delivered?

This is the surprise cake I ordered for my husband for our 1st night at the WL. It was waiting for us upon our return from dinner. He said it was the most special and thoughtful gift he has ever been given...super yummy too!

The cake is 6 in fondant covered modeled after the table in the Lenox Lady and the Tramp cake topper we had on our wedding cake. The card sticking in the top of the cake is an edible white chocolate facsimile of the front of our wedding invitation. Chef Brian's idea. The cake itself is chocolate with chocolate mousse or buttercream layers, one Baileys cream layer...yummmm, and white buttercream under the fondant. It was too die for...we ate on it all week.

The roses were unbelievably beautiful.

I would love a slice right now!

Price was $119 plus tip for delivery to our room. Well worth it in my opinion. Beautiful and delicious!

Ok, so I think we finally decided what we want to do for my ILs anniversary cake.

We're thinking something like the cake in this post, but with the flowers on top of the cake w/Mickey and Minnie being more like this post and the roses being orange and yellow (like they were on ILs actual wedding cake).

Does this cake have a name to use when I call the cake hotline? (delivery for Liberty Tree Tavern) I'm not sure how to describe the stamped design in the fondant so that the cake hotline understands what I'm asking for.

TIA!

What a great idea for a cake! The fondant tablecloth is genius—so simple, but it makes the cake so special!

For weddings, that's known as the "Mickey Wave" cake. The Chef at the Contemporary used to do wedding cakes at the Grand Floridian, so he'll know what that is. But it never hurts to send in the pictures, too, especially if you can, like, circle the parts you want from each. :thumbsup2

Absolutely adorable! Such a cute idea :)

I wanted to share sketches of the cakes I'm ordering for our upcoming trip.

This first one is a cake for my mom...

As you can probably tell, it's a mini wedding cake. It will be buttercream frosting with fondant decorations for our breakfast at Crystal Palace. Chef Donald said they don't have access to the single carousel horses like this so that's out. He also doesn't think there will be enough room to write the Mary Poppins themed message to my mom on the measuring tape, but they'll write it out on the cake board if need be. Mom isn't into crazy cake flavors, so it's going to be a yellow cake w/white chocolate mousse filling and vanilla buttercream.

Next up is my belated 40th birthday cake...

The only thing they really can't do is the hula skirt and lei. I really wanted Donald dressed like a girl from the South Seas room in IASW, but it's a no go. I do custom cakes on the side, so I'm debating about making an edible hula skirt and lei and just bringing it along so I can add it on. Ultimately, I wanted the IASW queue, the IASW DLR 50th anniversary logo translated to 40, a tribute to Mary Blair's concept art, and my fave- Donald. The flavors...orange cake w/tropical mousse filling for breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Oh, and it an 8".

I believe my mom's was quoted at $55 and mine at $155. I'll be sure to post pics after our trip.

What am awesome yummy thread! I am dieting for Disney, so I come here for my cake porn.

Orange cake with tropical mousse filling! Slap yo' Momma! that sounds delish! ANd what gorgeous designs! You talented girl!

We will be celebrating DGS 8th birthday and our Disney wedding anniversary on our December trip, so you KNOW I have to use that as an excuse to order a custom cake. Best cake I EVER had was from the Boardwalk bakery; simply outrageously beautiful, and done to every tiny detail of what I wanted.

Our wedding topper was a white chocolate Cinderella's castle--beautifully detailed. Keep posting...

Thanks! Can't wait to see your cakes from your trip :goodvibes

Has anyone here tried the caramel milk chocolate mousse or the peanut butter cream cheese fillings? We are going to get a chocolate cake with white buttercream under the fondant, but we are having a hard time deciding on the filling.

TIA!

Does anyone have any photos of a Cinderella themed cake? I need to order a cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday and she requested Cinderella. I was thinking a mini 2-tiered cake, preferably with Cinderella on there somehow. Any ideas?

This is Aurora, of course, but it could easily be changed to any other princess. I've been considering asking for this with Snow White for my DD.

I don't know whose cake it was. I found it via a Google search.

I don't know if it will help much as this sketch was done for an 8" cake, but this was an idea I sketched for a Cinderella themed cake. I was never 100% on the writing on top, but I like the rest. The ribbon work was inspired by one of the standard wedding cake designs. The 3D topper was intended to be the white choc. Cinderella, but this could be scaled back to a smaller 2D version for the mini-wedding cake. The castle portion back drop would have been either white chocolate or gumpaste/pastillage.
