I thought I'd give an update for anyone who cares to know or might find this information useful. I basically asked them to break down the cost of the cake, pricing each component. Here's what I asked for

I'm so glad you got this all worked out! :thumbsup2

Hi!

So Pat finally called me back and I ended up going with a mini cake but now I'm nervous about it. I mean we're only 2 but I remember her saying it's only 3 inches which in retrospect to me seems TINY.

It will be plenty for 2. For one thing, they're very rich. Even a sugar fiend like myself can't finish more than half a mini cake in one sitting! :teeth: Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Then for my birthday (yeah i know i am sad I order my own cake :))

I always do—that way you get exactly what you want! :goodvibes

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better and more hopeful! :)

I am interested in getting a 6in cake for my mother when we have dinner at 'Ohana and a 6in cake for my son when we have dinner at Chef Mickey's. Nothing fancy just straightforward birthday cakes. Will they write Happy Birthday Name on them? I guess they can write that on the plate at least.

Will they add flowers if requested? Are there different characters or just the Mickey I see in the sample picture?

I know we will be full after the dinners and they have dessert there already but it seems strange to not have a cake on your birthday.

Even a simple vanilla cake with vanilla frosting will be freshly baked, right? If it will be a frozen cake I will just skip it and wait till we get home.

Lucky loo, I was thinking of ordering 3 mini cakes but wonder after reading trough the posts if 6 inch cakes w/choc or van are cheaper? I was. planning on a Tigger, a stitch and a frozen themed cake. Our dinners are; Teppan Edo, Calif Grill, Hoop Dee Doo, Via Napoli1900 Park Fare and Crystal Palace. I am so confused...can you guide me as to where my best bet is to order from? Any advice would be fantastic.

Hi! Does anyone have any pix of an animal kingdom/animal kingdom lodge/safari themed cakes?

Thinking of getting a cake to match our room at the Animal kingdom Lodge!!! :D

I have been meaning to post these forever. So I had a big dilemma on how to do a frozen cake. WDW quotes were way over by budget of under $100. Then I found on this thread that the cake company that services SOG was called It's Tasty Too. I read some reviews and sent her a couple of inspiration pics. She quoted me $50! I thought it was worth the risk. We were staying at BWV and they said they could deliver it for an additional $30. I ended up having them deliver it and I thought it was well worth it, even though we had a car and could have picked it up. I have to say the writing on the front got smeary but I don't believe that was the decorators fault. We had my DD 5 party at Ohana at 9 am. So I had them deliver it the day before and that morning was the PHM (which was like 2000% humidity!). So it went from fridge to 2000% humidity and then I'm not sure what happened to it once they took it from me at Ohana but when it came out the writing was smeary. I actually didn't even notice it until I saw the pics. Ok with all that being said I was extremely happy with everything. I chose confetti cake and cookies and cream icing and a fudge center. It was very sweet but it was more for my 5 year old then myself and she loved it. Also I asked for a single tier cake but when it was delivered, it was 2 tier! They were VERY easy to work with and even when the waitress brought it out, she said we didn't make this did we? I said, no, and she said yeah I didn't think we could make anything that nice! I had to laugh. The table next to ours asked the same thing. Also, she could not do an Anna or Elsa image so I sent her the dolls we already had and she made it the snowman that just happens to look like Olaf. ;) So here are the pics.

Ours was really simple and done by the Boardwalk bakery, my daughter loved it!

Mom Poppins, can you share some details on this cake? Size, # layers (I see it's one tier), cake/filling/frosting flavors, price? I am conflicted on what to order for DD's birthday, but this or the cake in post #612 are pretty close to what I have in mind, both in style and (hopefully) price.

Will the Boardwalk Bakery do something similar to the cake in post #612 for a similar price, with similar filling?

Where would you have your cake delivered: BWV (where we are staying), Jiko, or WCC (where we have dinner ADRs)? If we go with WCC, it would be made by the Contemporary bakers, so something like the cake in post #612 should be easy to do. However, we are returning to the MK after dinner, for MSEP and Wishes. How will the leftover cake be packaged up for us to take it with us? We will probably be traveling by boat between MK and WL, so will probably rent a locker at MK for storing the cake.

LAST QUESTION (yeah, right!): IF cakes are delivered to resort rooms, there is a delivery charge, but not if they go to restaurants, correct? If delivered to the resort room, will they provide plates, forks, napkins, etc.? We will be at a BWV studio, so I am not sure what's provided in the room.

Forgot to post my cake! This was ordered from the contemporary for cali grill. It is a 6 inch non fondant custom cake. It was delicious! It was yellow cake filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries.

This is the cake from post #612 that I was talking about. It is a 6" from the Contemporary bakery, yellow cake filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries, $55. Not sure if there was a delivery charge or taxes tacked on to this price.

I'm interested in that cake too! We don't care to have a custom filling but i love the simple design and the price looks pretty good as well! I also love that there are Mickey ears piped on even though the cake has no fondant (we love our buttercream! ;) )

Single tier, 10 inch chocolate with chocolate mousse filling, the cost was $65 which we thought was really good! We were staying at Old Key West so we should have ordered at Olivia's however we had already ordered it through the Boardwalk so they sent it to Old Key West. I am not sure how that all works. No extra fee to pick up the cake, we picked it up from Olivia's. :)

We'll be at AKV Kidani a week from Sunday and our daughter and boyfriend will be joining us to celebrate her 30th birthday. I was thinking about ordering a cake to have delivered to the room and was considering the zebra cake. I have ordered cakes before from GF and Boardwalk but never AKL. Would love to hear if anyone has experience dealing with them and what the result was. Any pics would be great! TIA!

You never said if the cake tasted ok. I don't want a cake that is not edible

Oh yes. It was a bit sweet for my taste but that's what I ordered and my daughter loved it. The fondant was even good....it tasted like marshmallows. They have several different flavors and she is extremely easy to work with!

They will write it on the plate. They can either do flowers or a white chocolate disc with an image. I've only ever seen Mickey on the disc.

If you place a custom order, they will make the cake just for you. Supposedly they never freeze their cakes. It could be that the waiter who told me he had to "thaw" our podium cake meant he was taking it out of the fridge.

It will be much cheaper to order standard 6-inch cakes (chocolate and vanilla are the only flavor choices) for $23 each than to do 3 custom minicakes. Disney can't do Pooh characters, so no Tigger. If you want plain chocolate or vanilla $23 cakes, you can order them at any of those places except Via Napoli. If you want something fancy or decorated with fondant, you need to order for CA Grill, Hoop Dee Doo, 1900 Park Fare or Crystal Palace. CA Grill will be the easiest.

Great cake! Adorable kid! :goodvibes

Standard private dining charges apply for room delivery: $3 fee plus $18% gratuity and 6.5% tax. They bring all the plates and utensils you need, but your studio will also have plastic utensils and paper plates.

Ordering Process
The process went smoothly at first—Private Dining put me in touch with the pastry chef, and she was super-responsive via email. We sent several messages back and forth and got everything nailed down pretty easily, although I was told I had to get a 6-inch because they don't have the "equipment" to do minicakes. She approved the design and gave me a price, then told me to call in my order to Private Dining, which I did.

However, a few days later I got a strange call from Private Dining asking me if I still wanted to place an order for a cake. This kinda panicked me, so I called them back and was told they had to do some research and would get back to me. They never did. I called again after the weekend and learned from Private Dining that the pastry chef I'd been working with had left on a 2-week vacation without giving them any info about my cake, and that all my correspondence with her was tied up in her private email account, so they didn't even have the photos I'd sent.

:headache:

I re-sent all the info and went over everything again. Private Dining called me the day before and said they were making the cake right then and wanted to confirm the details of the exterior color (which I did, and they still messed up, but it wasn't a huge deal). This is how it turned out...

Location: Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jiko)

Size: 6-inch cake

Flavors: Red velvet cake with cream cheese mousse filling, not the cream cheese buttercream frosting I'd requested.

Price: Quoted $65 ($35 for 6-inch cake + $30 for fondant decorations), charged $23 :confused3

Inspiration Photos:
I found this cake online and asked to have a modified version as a 6-inch. I found a separate cake to get inspiration for the hippo on top...

HaywardJikoCakeIdea.jpg

How It Turned Out:
The cake looked a lot better than I was expecting, considering it seemed to have been hastily assembled by assistants while the pastry chef was out. They didn't use a contrasting color for the leaves like in the original photo, and the pond was a little rough around the edges (literally!), but the hippo was adorable and really well-made. It was a surprise for my husband, and he thought it looked great!

(Sorry these photos aren't better—new camera!)

The only thing I was really disappointed about was the use of cream cheese mousse filling instead of cream cheese buttercream frosting, which I had made a big deal about twice: once when I placed the order, and again when they confirmed it. I think they just assumed I meant "filling" instead of "frosting" because it's what they use in most of their cakes, but I really really dislike Disney's cream cheese mousse filling, which is way too cheesecake-y for my taste.

For some reason, when we got the bill for dinner, the cake was listed at only $23, maybe because they felt bad about losing the order or because it had been created by assistants instead of the pastry chef...?

At any rate, I would still order a fancy cake at AKL again now that they seem to have progressed beyond the supermarket level of cake-making—I guess I just need to be even MORE specific in the future! :rotfl:

Quoted $156 for a 10 inch cake royal blue with red diamonds around with a candied apple on top.. snow white inspired cake. The break down was 54 for cake and 12 for fondant and 90 for decorating.. this seems high to me... but wanted any thoughts?

I've ordered multiple cakes from different resorts(each one fantastic), but I have a new thought. We are starting our trip at the Top of the World Lounge watching Holiday Wishes.

I know there is not a reservation option for this eatery, but I would love to order a "Beginning of the Surprise Holiday" Cake for that night. It would then be breakfast for the rest of the trip:rotfl2:

Do you think there is any way to do this, since I won't have an ADR?
Just a thought! :santa:

Ouch!!! That seems so high! I'm all for getting an expensive cake (I have 2 lined up for our trip), but it seems like a basic design for so much.
Maybe they will throw some extra surprises on for you and make it worth it. Or maybe the actual receipt will be less than what was quoted. I think I've seem ppl say that on here.

Where is the cake being delivered? Yacht & Beach Club and Grand Floridian seem to charge more than the Contemporary.

I don't see why not. You would just contact Contemporary Private Dining and let them know approximately what time to deliver it to TOTW.

No it's the Contemporary and got the email from Chef Brian. I have not seen others having much luck trying to get the price lowered.. so I guess we will just have to go for it. It just caught me by surprised to be 90 just for decorations!

Will this be delivered by private dining a the Contemporary.. I am guessing another 20% on top of the cake fee is that correct ? Can we pick up the cake ?
