Freaking out a little bit, you guys...

I was on an awesome track -- had been getting in some seriously long runs for the first time ever (I ran 10 miles! And then 10.5 miles! Crazy!) But then these past two weeks have been blah in terms of training.

First, it was the first week back to school (I'm a teacher) and I was drained and exhausted and only got in one tiny run and then a pretty nice 5 miler (ran at my goal pace of 12.5 min/mile, so I felt good about that -- even though I know I can't keep up that pace for much more than 5 miles). But then this week I got a terrible cold with a chest cough and so didn't run at all -- I was on track to run 12.5 this weekend, but obviously that didn't happen. I'm going to get out there today and do something easy.

I'm supposed to run a 10K next Saturday, hoping to get a time I can submit at the Expo, but that means I'll only really be able to get 2 more long runs in before the big day!

    I'm scared! :crazy2:

I keep worrying I won't have trained enough or that I'll injure myself. Looking at it all typed out seems kind of crazy -- I know *logically* that I haven't wasted all my training just by having a couple of bad weeks, but it's so hard to *feel* that, you know what I mean?

And should I try to do a long run this week? Even though I have to race on Saturday?

I am trying to think of the castle and to trust my training, but I'm feeling really nervous...

Since this is my first PHM & a newbie to running... I can only speak to what my running coach has set up for me. Last week my long run was 10 mi and yesterday it was 7 mi. This week I have a 4,4 & 3 for maintenance runs and then next Sunday...the Hero Half Marathon here is San Antonio (my practice for next month!) I also looked at the Galloway plan and some others before getting my coach and almost all did not have a really long run before a big race event. And my husband has managed to give me his cold....(they should never let passengers with colds get on planes since the pilots tend to bring the germs home!:rotfl2:) so training this week I'm sure will not be what I wanted.

All that being said...I would go with caution so as to not injure yourself one month out from PHM. From what I've read from the veteran girls is that if your time is over 2:45 RunDisney won't take it and with your current pace you will be close.

I had my first half this morning! :cool1:

The furthest I had gone in a training run was 9.5 and that was three weeks ago. The next week I went for a long run and I just had a bad day and it didn't happen. I was so worried I was under trained and would end up walking the last half. I did great today and ran my intervals as planed the entire race. I stated to get tired around mile 12. Finished in 2:52 when I thought I would be closer to 3:10. They say if you get to 10 miles in training you will be fine for a half, I believe that.

As far as a long run during the week, if it were me I would do what I felt comfortable with that day. Is a 12.5 and a 6.2 in the same week too much for you? I think it would be for me, especially with one a race and you are getting over being sick. I would not push it and try to get a 10+ miler in next week, but that is just me.

    OK Ladies, 5 weeks!

I haven't posted much, but with the WDW full behind me, I'm ready to get ready for Princess #5.

Newbie, it will be a blast. The final weeks of training can be tough as the body gets a bit worn and the weather a bit cold. Keep with and the payoff is well worth it.

Congrats on your first half!! :cool1: Way to go!

And thank you. This was just the encouragement I was fishing for, LOL. But seriously, you made me feel a lot better.

That's my understanding, too. I actually ran a 10k at a pace that put me a little under 2:45 in November (I'm always faster in a race than in training -- hooray adrenaline!) so I'm hopeful I can replicate that next weekend! Either way, though, I am amped about the race and I'd like to have one more event under my belt before the PHM!

Saw Longhorns FB pics from the Tinkerbell this morning - she was dressed as a Fireside Girl (Phineas & Ferb) - super cute!

Cripey - let us know how it went!

Well I finished :) I knew it was going to be a tough one and I was right. Ouch...hurting today for sure! I really love his race though...lots of time in the parks and I really enjoyed the part of the course that runs through the city. PF is flared up big time and I'm super worried about Princess next month...I'm sure ill finish, but probably feelin like this again. It's a lot of my own fault though! I'd love to keep my legacy status and do it again next year...I really like this race! We had a few muscle numbing drinks over at Trader Sam's :) and now we're strolling California Adventure with our medals until its dinner time...ADR at the new Carthay Circle that I'm really excited about! Keep it goin' Princesses, we're so close!!!

Oh how I'd love to do this one next year! I've never been to Disneyland and there's a lot they have that Disney World does not. I would do DDD but I'm afraid of the heat. Being from TN I'm used to training in moderate heat but ToT was so miserable and the training months leading up to it were so miserable I just don't think I'm up to a late summer/early fall endurance event.

Hi all! Today I did 6.5 miles combined jogging and walking and I feel pooped. This is the farthest I have ever gone. Thing is, I am so disappointed when it comes to my friends. The don't share my love of Disney and they could care less. I guess they just don't understand. Most folks are off tomorrow due to MLK day, myself included. I asked them if they want to hang out, and they all had excuses. Seems that we all have gone our separate ways when it comes to getting healthy and running. I don't have kids, most of them do, and they look at time like I have 3 heads. I feel I get more support from the kind folks on the DIS. Sorry for the rant, but it really got me depressed.

Thank you! Yes, I hope this weather holds, it was wonderful this morning. I'll be volunteering at Hero-a-Thon next week and I am going to try to get out and cheer for everyone.
Thank you! I know you will do great.
    Thanks!! :cool1:

Just did Tink today. Next stop is Princess for Coast to Coast. Curious question for someone who may know how long does it take to get a custom orthopedic insert for your shoes (if you are getting a mold)?

Way to go on the 6.5 !:cool1:

Sorry about your friends...most of my friends have been super supportive but like yours have no intention to try something new/ check it off the bucket list. Is there a running club in your area that you could meet with for training & support. Bet being in FL there HAS to be Disney fanatics who run!:)

Thanks for the kind words. All of the running clubs are nowhere near me, but I plod on. It's funny, back in 2007, when I ran more often, everybody wanted to be associated with me. Different story now. Lives change and so do people.
