October 2015 Check-In Thread

My son & I will be staying at VGC 10/24-10/27. This trip just went from being my pretty much free trip, to my insane spending trip. I got the hotel on my DVC points, my AP's have already more than paid for themselves & the airline tickets were covered by Disney Visa reward points. I was so proud that the only thing I'd had to pay for was 2 tickets to MHP. And then last Friday I got a little crazy. I booked the Jungle Cruise breakfast & the Mystical Spirits dinner. So, no more almost free trip, but I can't wait. I figure this is the only trip that will probably ever work out so perfectly on pricing that I can afford to splurge like this, so I'm going for it. We may end up eating PB&J for all of our other meals, but it'll be worth it.

Just found this thread! We have a family event to go to, so we decided to go to Disneyland first. It will be a first trip for all of us, although DH and I have both been to WDW. We check in on the 4th, and will be in the parks the 5th and 6th and some/most of the 7th.

I too got very nervous about booking ADRs, but finally got everything last week. I really wanted to get into Minnie and Friends just as the park opened on an EMH, but the Plaza Inn doesn't open until 8 during the week for some reason :( . Oh well, it's still a Disney!

I am looking forward to seeing our son's face when he gets to meet all the characters. I know he might not want to get close at first, but I think he will love seeing them. I am also looking forward to going on Its A Small World. I know, I am probably the only adult who likes this, but it's who I am. :flower3:

I promise this is my last list I wanted to make up. Let me know if you have any other celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries, etc while you are at Disneyland that you want to add to the list. I apologize in advance, I think someone had an Anniversary on the 16th - I penciled it on my list but forgot to write the name down.

Oct 12 is our wedding anniversary. We will be doing the Hollywood portion of ABD.

I love It's a Small World too! We also tried to book Minnie and friends during EMH but also could only get in at 8:10. So frustrating, but it'll be fun, and the characters may come around a few times, so your son will get a couple chances to decide about the characters. Mine is always shy at first, but they're so good with the kids that he warms up pretty quickly.

Looks like Its a Small World is having a refurbishment during Oct. The entertainment calender is showing it closed for the 20th and 21st (so far - the 21st is as far as the calendar goes so far).

So glad they are waiting until after I leave to do the refurb! I'm guessing they will be changing the characters' outfits for Christmas.

Does anyone know generally how long Small World closes for refurbishment? I'd hate to completely miss it.

So I am helping a friend just look for just one night (Oct 8) and the DL website says the hotels are completely booked! What gives? Is this normal? We are locals so we don't usually book hotels. And it's a Thursday night besides. Anyone have any ideas?

One reason is that it's only a month away. Chances are that most rooms would be booked around now, or very soon. There's a Halloween party on 10/7 and on 10/9. Columbus Day weekend officially begins on 10/9, and Thursday is close to Friday so it's not that much of a stretch that people would extend a holiday weekend. CHOC Walk takes place on 10/11, and maybe that's bringing in some people. Columbus Day is 10/12. The Star Wars Launch Bay is probably going to debut on 10/11 (although that hadn't been announced by Disney to the public yet, it looks like that will be the date from what I discovered). Who knows?

Also, Halloween Time is popular and the 60th anniversary has been bringing in a lot of extra people.

Also... there is a Fabrics Expo at the Convention Center from 10/7 - 10/9, so that could have something to do with the hotels being booked (if the attendees are getting discounted hotel stays) - http://www.disboards.com/threads/2015-calendar-of-events-school-breaks-mhp-and-dlr.3358090/.

Ok, so I purchased my Halloween Party tickets last week because I was afraid they were gonna sell out because the first date I kept contemplating on ended up selling out and then the day after I bought my tickets it was sold out. Then I kept thinking I would wait until I got paid on the 15th to book and pay for my hotel because they have a really good deal through Getawaytoday.com but I kept thinking how busy it was last year when we went and all hotels were sold out after I bought my Halloween tickets and I was lucky to get the last available room at HoJo so, I paid for a deposit on the room just in case and I just checked and it is sold out... I just barely made it on both of those.. And it was still a better deal than booking directly with the hotel with an AAA discount. I get free full hot breakfast, free shuttle to the parks & free resort fees. I'm so happy I just booked it when I was thinking about it last week... now I cant wait to Trick or Treat:dogdance:

Looking ahead at the extended weather forecast for Anaheim. I don't know how accurate it is, but so far October looks sunny and comfortable! I have to decide what clothes to pack for the family.

It couldn't be more accurate. I live in northern CA & it's been 100 degrees for the last couple of days which isn't usually like this and Southern CA is usually hotter. Sept & Oct have been warm the last few years.

Just saw that as well..we will be there the 20-23rd so kind of a bummer for us too! But we're still looking forward to all the Halloweentime décor.

My husband and I will be going Oct 17 - 27. I'm so excited. We were going to drive and leave Disney the 25th and spend a couple days in Disney, but we decided not to drive and fly so we added a couple days on at Disney. We will be staying at the Del Sol Inn through the 25th. Now I just have to convince him to spend 2 nights at the Disneyland Hotel and my dream will be complete!!! Especially because we had APs this year and I probably won't be back for a couple years, which makes me so sad.

We're going Tues Oct 6 to Friday Oct 9! Staying at the Grand Californian - first time ever staying at a Disney owned hotel on the west coast... beyond excited.

I just checked our week and it looks awesome! The girls have been dying to use the pool at PPH, so they're going to be so happy we're there when it's sunny and warm!

We'll probably come home to temps in the 50 degree range and fog and rain.

DH and I are thinking of going to the Halloween party on Sunday, October 25, and CA and a return visit to DL on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27. But we still need to finalize our plans. We'll be there SOMETIME between October 20 and 28.

We've been to DL several times in October in the past. Does the Haunted Mansion still have the overlay?

Edited to add: Drats!!! The Sunday October 25th party is sold out. It was available a few days ago. That's what I get for procrastinating. Tuesday the 27th is still available, but it's $8 more than Sunday's party was. Serves me right. I guess I better act quickly.

Last year it appears it was closed October 20 through November 6 to install the holiday overlay. I'm trying not to be too disappointed but 30 years ago this ride made the biggest impression on me as a little girl and I was really hoping to share it with my little girls this year.

Our dates are a mixed bag too. 21- 23 Hotel Indigo & 28 - 4 Nov private rental. MHP 31st Oct.

So if it stays closed until the 6th, we'll miss it that end too. Pulling my bottom lip off the ground now....BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYLAND - WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :) :) :)

We will becoming for our first time October 16-23. We are staying at the HoJo's and will be at DL 5 days and then the Halloween Party on the 19. This is our first trip to Disneyland. Going to hit the beach, the USS Iowa, Universal and some of Hollywood. Having never been there before we are extremely excited. We've been to WDW 3 times, the last coming June 2014.
