No Grumpy Guses Allowed! Updated 5/15- We have plane tickets!

Well, small increments is great, because otherwise you may not have enough to stretch things out long enough. Well, that and I go back to classes on Monday, and won't be around nearly as much. :worried:

Well, yeah, stretching things out is part of my thought process as well. :thumbsup2

Kya and I had a day of MAD PLANNING yesterday!:hyper: :cool2: :hyper:

I had errands to run in the morning and class to teach in the afternoon/evening but I had about a 2 hour break in the middle. Kya and were sitting around eating some Christmas leftovers (I may never eat ham again) when I decided to ask her about her "must-dos" for our trip. This resulted in a whirlwind of Disney talk and planning that ended with me nearly forgetting I needed to be at work... :rolleyes1 (In my defense it was my first day back after Christmas break...)

So, I'm sure you're wondering what we discussed. popcorn::

Well, it was A LOT and too much for me to detail in one post without looking like a crazy person. :faint:

So, in the interest of A) making myself seem more sane than I am, and B) stretching the PTR out for a while I'll just give you little doses of yesterday's talk... :duck:

So, even though our exact dates are still a bit tentative until party dates and airfare is released we know we want to do 4 nights which will include a day of resort hopping (combined with time at DTD- or DS by then I suppose) to see various Christmas decorations, a day at DHS, a day at Epcot, and MVMCP.

We're skipping AK this time because it will most likely be too cold for Kali and we honestly don't love anything else that AK has to offer. We aren't coaster people so EE isn't a draw for us and animals in captivity is just not really my thing. And yes, I know and appreciate the conservation efforts Disney puts into AK park. I don't really have an issue with it, I just feel sad when I see the animals doing things like pacing because they don't have space to walk the hundreds of miles they normally would in a day. And I don't go to Disney to feel sad. :sad2:

So, keeping in mind that we'll be at MK during MVMCP and are only visiting 2 other parks my initial plan was to just get 2 day base tickets and party tickets. We generally don't feel the need to hop so one day at each park seemed like enough. But then I asked Kya about her list of must-dos. :faint:

DHS and Epcot are COMPLETELY manageable. In fact DHS will probably not take an entire day. MK on the other hand- well, that's the one at the bottom of the page taking up a disproportionate amount of space AND that is written in two columns. There is NO WAY we can get it all finished during MVMCP. Not even by showing up at 4:00. So, now I'm trying to decide between adding a hopper or a 3rd park day to give us more time at MK. :confused3

A lot of things, including park hours, flight times, and party dates will factor into that decision so I'm really not sure what we'll do yet. Which is okay because I was dangerously close to having this trip figured out and I still have months and months of planning ahead of me... :surfweb:

Fun list of Must-Do's! I LOVE hand-written planning. Sometimes it's just easier to do it that way. At least for me and my co-conspirator. We can snuggle up on the bed and plan our little hearts out. And erase. And erase. And erase.

I hear about the animals at AK, but there's so much more to see there! The shows and all the incredibly detailed theming, and Hidden Mickeys, and the Surgery Center at Rafiki's. Definitely my 2nd favorite park, even without the animals or coasters.

There is a lot to do, you're right! I do love Festival of the Lion King and the theming is great. But we've got 4 nights, I can't stretch it more than that, and when we were talking about what we really wanted from this trip AK just wasn't a priority. I'm sure we'll be back again someday though. :goodvibes

I'm so glad you hadn't written it off completely! :yay: There really is so much to offer! But I can totally see how that would be one to go on a shorter type trip. :thumbsup2

There's very little I could just write off at WDW. :lovestruc

Subbing :) I love the idea of a mother daughter trip! My DH and DS would never let me and the girls go without them though.

:welcome:

I'm pretty excited about going with my girlie! The trade-off is that we don't get family trips because DH is so resistant to the idea. The upside is that he doesn't bat an eye about our girl's trip. Every situation has a flip side I guess.

Oh, man, I know I said I was going to stretch out the details from our mad planning day but I didn't plan to stretch it this much... real life kind of got in the way! Between New Year's...

babysitting my niece...

And battling the WORST stomach bug I've EVER had (I'll spare you the pics of THAT) I just haven't had the time and/or energy for a proper update. :sad2:

I'm (mostly) better now though and ready to distract myself the lingering tummy trouble by thinking about Disney!

We did so much planning and I was going to start with the tentative itinerary but the more I typed the more I realized a lot is still up in the air so I think I'll start with the ADRs we're really hoping for.

  • 1900 Park Fare (breakfast)
  • Coral Reef (lunch)
  • Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater (lunch)
  • Crystal Palace (dinner)

So, we've been to 1900 PF for dinner...

The Tremaine's are a HOOT but we don't really want the same old thing. We were going to go with a different restaurant all together but we wanted a breakfast on the Monorail loop for our day of resort hopping (to see the Christmas decor) and back to MK. Of all of the restaurants with breakfast that we looked at the menue at 1900 PF was the one that appealed to us the most (can you say STRAWBERRY SOUP) And Kya likes the idea of seeing Alice and Mary Poppins. We've also met Alice...

but can you ever really have enough Alice? :upsidedow

And I know CP for dinner isn't as popular as the breakfast ressie but we don't plan on making it for RD to MK (I know, I know). We think we'll get a lot done at the party and we NEED a day that we don't have to be up and rushing out the door, it just makes sense for that to be the park we'll be spending the most time in. But Kya really wants to meet Winnie the Pooh (he and Jack Skellington are really her only musts for character meets on this trip) so I want to do dinner instead of trying to figure out where he'll be on our DHS or MK days.

Coral Reef and Sci-Fi were decided after pouring over menus and pics. Sci-Fi won out for atmosphere (and milk shakes) for sure. But I think Kya really just picked Coral Reef because the Tanner's eat there when the cast of Full House goes to WDW. ;)

So, that's it for our meal choices. Now to just figure out what days we want to eat where... :crazy2:

ETA: (Copied and pasted from a later post because I'm too lazy to write it again.)

I realized that I left our OOP meal at RFC off the list!

We're just sharing an appetizer and a volcano because EVERY TIME we've been to RFC or T-Rex (never been to either on Disney property though) we end up skipping their signature dessert because we fill up on the other food. Not this time!!!

Nice choices on the ADR's! Well...except coral reef, I haven't heard great things about the food, but it's pretty! ;)

The breakfast at Park Fare was yummy! We really enjoyed it. I've never had dinner at CP and Sci-fi is a lot of fun! :thumbsup2

Yep, we need a Disney day!

Hi Hope!!! I'm joining in!! Can't wait to hear more!!! popcorn::

:cool1::cool1: Hi, Anne!! So glad you're here!! :goodvibes

I pretty much let Kya pick the restaurants. I'm not super picky and can nearly always find something I like on a menu and anywhere new is going to be fun for me. I figure if CR isn't great it's okay because we'll be in WS all afternoon and can have some yummy snacks. :thumbsup2

I don't know if the girls are still as excited for it as we are but I'm itching for an excuse to do some Frozen themed things. I know, it's everywhere, but I still like it! And I have a recipe saved for Frozen hot chocolate!

I'm seriously thinking of adding Coral Reef as 3/4 of us like fish a lot, and you certainly can't beat the atmosphere! And yes, ITA! The Tremaines are super funny!!

I'll let you know what we think of the food. Here on the DIS people complain but tripsdvisor gives it good reviews, 4 stars (or circles I guess on tripadvisor).

Hi Hope,

Just ran across your thread! I am definitely going to follow. My family and I are booked for May and are staying at the AOA. Once my kids saw the decor, they fell in love. Really glad to see that you and your daughter have lots in common. My teen daughter wouldn't be caught hanging with her mom in daylight, lol. Keep up the great thread.
