So Disney is out this year, DH's car needs some major repairs, so we are trying to plan a smaller trip closer to home.

One of the ideas we, well really me, are tossing around is a trip to Niagara Falls. We would be traveling the first week of April and right now I have my eyes on the Shearton Falls Hotel, looks like they have a really cool indoor water park. I am just wondering how much really would there be for us to do? Would the Maid of the Mist be up and running. Also I know the weather could be chilly or it could be mild. Just not sure if that would be the best time to go.

We, I mean me, have also been thinking about Tennesse or Kentucky.

What I am really looking for is some place that is less that 8 hours drive time from Detroit and on the cheap side. Since Disney is out I would like to take a nice relaxing family vacation somewhere for four or five days. DS is four and I want the trip to be fun for him.

We are pretty open to wherever. An indoor water park would be a major plus.

My ideal trip would be somewhere were we could spend a part of the day exploring the sites and part of the day relaxing at the hotel.

The opening of the Maid of the Mist can be anywhere from April 1 - May 20th. depending on the winter and the waters. So you would not be guaranteed.

The weather will most likely be chilly but you could do some of the tourist stuff. In the beginning of April you would have highs from the 40s to 50s and near the end of the month is could be closer to highs of 60s. But that is if we has a seasonal warming. It could be colder so you would have to plan for that.

If 8 hours will bring you to warmer weather going the other direction, you may want to consider that as coming to Niagara Falls would be all up for changes.

    Hope this helped a little.

I live like 2 hours from there and the first week of April is usually pretty cold. You could do the water park. There's a big mall at the casino. There's an IMAX theatre. There are a few places like the butterfly conservatory and that place with all the tropical birds that are all inside too. I would be looking for indoor things to do basically. We've been having a weird winter so who knows. Anything could happen. We've had warm weather around that time before too. It's just not typical. My birthday is March 30 and I've have everything from sunshine and tulips to blizzards on my birthday.

COLD. I think NF would be much better in warmer weather. There are certainly a ton of other things to do in that area, but if you want to walk around/under the falls I think you will freeze.
