Newspaper says two more hotels

From the Orlando Sentinel Online:

Loew's Hotels will soon start planning its fourth and fifth hotels at Universal Orlando, Jonathan Tisch, the New York lodging chain's chairman and chief executive officer, said last week.

Tisch said zoning for the two new properties on Universal land already has been approved.

"We're going to sit down with Universal in a few weeks and start planning what they will look like," he said.

Loew's opened its third hotel at Universal, Royal Pacific Resort, last month. Tisch said the 1,000-room hotel has been enjoying occupancy rates of 90 percent or more. "It's way ahead of what we expected," he said.

Loew's other two Universal hotels are Hard Rock Hotel and Portofino Bay. The Royal Pacific is the largest in Loew's 15-hotel chain.

How soon could Loew's next two hotels at Universal be built? Tisch declined to predict the timing but said: "We're optimistic. The tourism economy is recovering fast."

What's more, Loew's is in good financial shape to expand. "We have a lot of capital right now."

I would just be guessing, but I would imagine over against Turkey Lake Road where the RPH was originally going to be. They are selling off all of the property along Wallace Road, but it still leaves a lot of room on Turkey Lake from Hollywood Way down to the Loews building. All they would have to do is extend the water canal and they would all be connected. That has been key to the success of the existing layout.

I don't expect that any of this would pertain to the Lockheed property. At least not for some time to come.

Care to guess what the next hotel theme will be? Anyone?
Here's my stab at it.... "a simulated Florida Indian reservation, complete with modern casino (everyone knows Columbus learned blackjack from the Seminoles, right?).

One of the hotels/resorts will be themed to a egyptian theme like spaceman posted.. the other one is rumored to be a old western theme hotel/resort.... one of them will be built next to the royal P. resort .. the other one across the road between universal dr/ and turky lake road were RPR was going to be built. After these are built the only area for universal to build anything big would be there 2,000 acres next to sea world... there land in the orlando resort area would be full.

Going back to the old western theme resort... it could have a big western style dinner show similar to the one Disneyland paris has.... more likely it would get the bigger land area across universal drive.

I am just worried that they would take the universal express away since they would have several hotels like disney. I hope they dont. I also like the idea of an egyptian themed hotel. I live in texas so i have seen to many things western and would love a change. lol

I know for a fact that the next hotel will by by the RPR, sharing the same lagoon. The 5th resort will be where the RPR was originally supposed to be.

As a courtesy to everyone, I will always tell you when I don't know something for sure, so, I don't know this for sure, BUT, *I* was told by a reputable source that the 4th hotel would have an "asian theme" and would work well situated in close proximity to the RPR. I don't know if Asia means Egypt or not. Theres no sense in blowing any of this out of proportion right now because nothing is definite yet.

Hmmm maybe our six foot tall Asian man can aswer that.
In any case sounds great! The Western themed hotel they have at Disneyland Paris is very nice, so is the dinner show. We stayed in the western hotel & we had a cute room with bunk beds & a queen, all cowboy themed. We didn't have kids with us and all we did was think how cute it was for kids. I just hope they keep the discounts flowing!

The western-themed hotel is an interesting idea. Perhaps they could rescue the Cheyenne Saloon at the defunct Church Street Station. Cheyenne Saloon was one of the most amazing interior spaces I have ever seen, a sort of fantasy western opera house, with five levels soaring up to a huge stained glass window. Really neat.

Egypt is in Africa...not Asia.

the Lockheed Property might be a good guess as to where these two new resorts may arise. With the Convention Center growing in leaps and bounds, and talk that another theme park on this property may not come into existence for quite a long time, this location may become prime real estate to take advantage of Universal's "donation" of land to the convention center expansion.
As far as themes...
If they are built by the Convention Center, anything goes. From a no-frills, no themeing required Resort Hotel to turning I-Drive into the next incarnation of the Las Vegas Strip with a Mega-themed Resort, any guess would work and maybe they could do both extremes if they are going to build "two" hotels.

They sold off the two plots next to the convention center last year. I think I rememeber that one of the buyers was Marriot.

If and when they go, make the bet on them going on the existing property. It all fits into the redevelopment plan of the unused property as well as the proximity to the Loews support infrastructure.

Western theme is a good idea. Girls ages 8-14 are really into horses, we own one. The 11 year old daughter spends every day she can on the ranch. We've been to Arabian Nights 4 times and the kid always want to go back. A riding ring would bring in lots of extra money. They could sell carrots and other horse food to feed them. Have pony rides for the little kids. And a big ring for the advanced riders.

I heard a long time ago that there was a Whoville hotel planned. Now that would be a neat idea, but I don't think it will become reality.
