I read on the Restaurants board of a potential new restaurant opening in the Magic Kingdom. I had heard rumor that this could be true but this person knew a name (Skipper's Cantina) and said that it could be open as early as this fall.

Has anyone heard about this? Did you hear similar/same? Just wondering what type of restaurant is might be (table service/quick service/both)?

Yes the building known as the adventureland verandah is under construction to become a new restaurant right now. I would expect a late fall opening.

If this rumor turns out to be completely accurate as to the purpose and theming of the restaurant, then I think that it is a genius move by Disney. The best part about it, for me, is that it is not really linked to an IP, but rather an experience that is found solely in the parks, and a classic one at that. I am actually crossing my fingers and hoping that this has success like BoG did in NFL. I am thinking that it could lead to other highly themed restaurants that offer more than just a sit-down meal. BoG is more than a restaurant, it is more of an experience. This move makes me hopeful that a new eating experience could be placed in the closed TL arcade. I also think that Frontierland needs a nice restaurant also.

I see this all the time and I have to disagree a bit...be our guest trends more toward a "cafeteria" in my book than an "experience".

I don't typically like the hybrid restaurants because they are leaving the door open to switch it entirely to one method or another. In my case...it's quickserve.

The sitdown restaurants, for me, is what made the Disney parks what they are - as much as anything else.

I don't like the trend of de-emphasizing them. To go along with the quality streamlining and pricing that had recently occurred.

My opinion, of course.

Hey that's fine. We all share different opinions here. I guess for me, cafeteria style eating at MK equates to Cosmic Rays. Which, by the way, is another reason why I think they need more eating selections at MK. Even though the food there is fine for what it is, there is no way that place should be that popular.

Very well said Flyerjab! BoG is clearly a success and an new concept as a functioning restaurant for Disney. Can totally see it going that way as opposed to a table service.

I have heard the same... something going into the old space where the Adventureland Veranda still stands, unused. The rumor goes on to say that it would operate like "Be Our Guest" and be counter service for lunch and full service for dinner. Because the canal is to the right and would interfere with the "barrier" between Adventureland and Main Street it would need to to extend to the left. The building it is attached to used to be used for meet and greets, 1st during MNSSHP and MVMCP, and then for Pixie Hollow. Next to that area is a shop, which could be used for more seating. The restrooms are at the end in the thoroughfare into Frontierland and if those were turned around to open into the restaurant, they could build more bathrooms in another area. There are shops on the Frontierland side, which would likely remain. So, in that case, a long, somewhat thin restaurant could actually fit there, and goodness knows, MK NEEDS more full service restaurants!

This new restaurant is connected to liberty tree square. They are said to share a kitchen.

The Adevntureland Veranda is the space where the fairy M&G used to be and it was a restaurant in the past. The space already has restrooms and the new restaurant will have about 150 seats. It does appear that it will operate list BoG.

He are some pictures at Magic from last week of the construction going on there for this. Can't tell much (obviously) but this is where it is happening.

Thanks for the pictures. It's really cool that something is going in there. It's a nice spot.
