Just wondering how the new wave phones are working(anyone who might be cruising now and online?) How did you carry it, does it fit in lanyard or just in pocket? Just thinking of my 11 year old and not wanting her to lose it. thanks for any info.

I just heard this morning from passengers leaving the cruise that the phones were hard to use. There were no instructions enclosed and when you got the text message it was hard to text back, but faster to just walk to the club. Also the price on the phones. if lost, was to much $250.00 and the wrist bands $35.00.

Yes, we just came back from our cruise on Wonder today. The wave phone was hard to figure out at first but once we know how to use it, it's not too bad. It fits into DH jeans pockets. It also works in Castaway Cay.

We just got back on the Wonder this morning as well. The phones are a great concept. You can call and txt with them. Replaces the kids club pager. Many settings on them are locked down and all it does is vibrate, no ringing. In all it is a great way to keep track of everyone. Just don't lose it as they carry a steep price!

I seem to recall the price on the pagers was ridiculously high as well. I'm sure they hope some people lose them...it's another revenue stream ;)

LOVED the wave phones. We were on the 12/16/10 Wonder sailing. They were relatively easy to use. Each cabin has 2 phones. If you call the Wave phones and there is no answer after the 5th ring or so, the stateroom phone starts ringing. It only vibrates and there is no ringing, so sometimes its hard to figure out if someone is calling you. Also lost reception from time to time. It looks like a standard cell phone from a few years ago. We didn't use the text function but it was easier for our group w/2 cabins to split up from time to time. I believe its a "Phillpis" branded phone. I took a picture of it. We just got back and I'll post when I get a chance.

The vibrate only is great news. I was worrying about phones ringing everywhere.

Just back from a. 4 day wonder sailing. The wave phone is not reliable, atleast that's what was my experience...they need to iron out the kinks.

We just got back today, and we loved the phones!!! Being able to text and call was really great. And honestly I don't wear a watch, so it was how I knew what time it was. I am so glad they added them. It was hard for me to text because I am so used to a keypad, but it's better than nothing. We had an instruction sheet in our room.

They should offer an insurance policy like car rental companies do where you pay a certain amount per day and aren't responsible for loss or damage. :)

Was thinking that maybe they should have some sort of Android/iPhone app so those with those phones could use their own device instead of DCL's, but not sure that would make sense for most as the out of contract replacement cost of nearly all of those devices exceed $250.

How big are these and how they are carried. do they come with a case?
Is your child expected to have one while in the clubs or can a CM still page you?

They are like generic cell phones from a few years ago..they don't have a case.
Your child won't need one in the clubs--the CM's can call or text you if need be.

This is actually a good idea, but might only work in the new ships. Since most people's phone will not work at sea, they will need to rely on the ship's wireless network. From what I have heard, the Wonder and Magic's wifi coverage is mediocre at best. But if they can do this on the new ships where hopefully their wifi coverage is better, that will be great.

No, there will be 2 in each room. however, if you damage or lose it, that will cost you $250.

Is it just the connection to the outside world that's mediocre on the Magic on Wonder? I would think that a local Wifi network would be find to handle any type of inter-ship communications. People with smartphones would just have to add the ships local wifi network and perhaps download a DCL app to be able to use them onboard.

We just got home and loved the phones. They were small (like a small cell phone) My husband put his in his pocket. We mostly used texting because it was sometimes hard to hear conversations. But, it helped us keep in touch and also communicate with the kids club. I wish we could have programmed numbers into them but they had those options turned off.

These are not to call off the boat-just to communicate within.

Oh-and no charge unless you lose one.
