New Laundry Machines coming to Disney World Resorts

My son's dorms have this same system that tie to their ids which is also a debit card that have Panther Funds.

It may take some time to add MB payment if at all. This is a third party turn key system that an outside vendor installed and most likely maintains. They have no reason to add MB and it maybe impossible since they would have to interface with Disney's Computer systems.

I did notice that Fort Wilderness is not on their list, is it maybe because their machines are scattered around the resort with just a few at each Comfort Station.

My thought is that fort just hasn't gotten them yet, or they're having a problem with making sure they will work. These machines are top notch now and report themselves when they're not working as intended. I would assume that requires Wi-Fi connection, which fort sometimes has problems with.

Is it totally stupid that I love this? I had planned on doing laundry, but to be able to check before we leave for the pool if there are open machines, getting a text when they're done, and not having to take a bunch of quarters along (when I have heard of them being stolen from people's checked bags...). Is it wrong that Disney can so easily make me happy?

I just want to know who does laundry at 2 am. When I am at Disney I am in bed and snoring at that time.

A night owl coming in from late Extra Magic Hours or Jelly Rolls or any bar on the weekends. Or someone too excited to sleep. Or someone who couldn't find a machine all day. Or someone whose kid got sick in the middle of the night........

I used the new set up in March at the Polynesian, but didn't bother with the scan thing to monitor it. The system shows you exactly how many minutes on each machine, so I just used Siri to set a timer on my phone. Just as easy and worked perfectly.

Also, the washers and dryers actually appeared to be the same ones as before, they just added the central pay credit card system to the old machines.

Good news, we are coming from Europe and are not carrying a lot of cash in general. I prefer to pay most things by cars. However it is strange that you can't pay with your magic bands. Seems so un Disney like... Also why can't you pay with American Express? Usually I am able to use that everywhere in the US... Well well, I have a back up master card.

Does anyone know if this affects the laundry at DVC resorts for those staying on points? It has always been free in the past since the studios don't have a washer.

The laundry facilities aren't managed by Disney, which is why when one of the machines breaks it isn't just as easy as sending someone to go fix it. Disney has to actually call it in to get it fixed. With the American Express, it's probably something to due with the company that manages the system in general. Each credit card company charges the company that you are paying a transaction fee, American Express may charge a high enough fee that it isn't worth accepting payment from it for the laundry servicers.

It shouldn't have any sort of affect on DVC machines as far as I know. As part of your DVC membership you should get free laundry when staying at a DVC resort on your points.

Yes AmEx has the highest merchant fees of all the cards and just isn't worth it to accept them. This explains it better.

Also yes this is an outside company that is paying Disney to have their machines on their property. They would have to have an interface into the Disney Magic Band system which Disney probably doesn't want to give them.

I'm glad they are switching to these. No more quarters in my luggage!

When I was touring colleges with my oldest last year one of the colleges had these and it would notify you when laundry was done. I thought that was pretty darn cool - so much so that my son thought it was funny that I was impressed with the laundry facilities at that college.

Im confused by this whole thread??? Who does laundry on vacation? Its a time to relax? RIght? :rotfl2:

Do these machines take international credit cards? I was driving through Washington State and had a gas station that refused my Canadian mastercard even at the till inside? I would be great not having to have all those quarters. (save them for the pressed pennies instead!) I find eveny laundry on vacation is relaxing. I take a book and a cup of tea (or something stronger) and read while the laundry is going. DH is back in the room with the kid putting her to bed. I sometimes fold laundry back in the room, sometime in the laundry room. I usually do it towards the end of the trip. Laundry is my "favourite" household chore.... dishes are my least favourite.

I'll see if I can get a solid answer for you, but I'm pretty sure that if your credit card works at the front desk of the resort that it will work for the laundry facilities. I'll try to get a solid answer for you though since I'm not sure.

Not sure this applies since the machines are not connected to Disney payment systems but an outside vender with there own policies.
