They're disposable.. and they're like a watch. They wont be stuck on your arm.

Examples of designer bands:
The outer section (the band on each side) rips off so it can be smaller and that also takes a few inches off the length when it does, so it can fit small wrists too.
And here's the customized bands with names:
And how they buckle:
Examples of the personalized experience:
Quick clarification.. anyone can convert their tickets to RFID and use FP+ for free.
Day guests - those not staying at a disney resort and those who aren't APs - will have an RFID card/sticker in that instance. If they want a MagicBand, they have to buy one of the "designers" ones. Disney will only give away the free ones to APs and Resort guests.
So, instead of spending a billion dollars on new attractions, we have this. I'm sure my kids will enjoy seeing their name on a speedway billboard more than they would a Monsters Inc. roller coaster . Oh well, its not my company.
That one is better than your name on the daily announcement sign at Contemporary.. talk about stretching it for "Magic."
The real question is.. is the id # encrypted. If someone clones your wristband and the id is in the clear, in theory they could present the same information to any reader and purchase something or open a door. If its encrypted, its alot tougher.
Mousemerf, thanks for the great info! Any idea how it will work for a day guest staying at a Disney resort but using a different type of ticket? We'd be checking into the resort but wouldn't have tickets until after we were in the park (after being Main Gated in by CM friends)
CM comps and main gates are changing.. so how that'll play out remains to be seen. Comps are "virtual" tickets now - they used to be hard cards. The CM prints out a little sheet and the main gate CM gives you a ticket when you go through the turnstile. Those can will probably be added to MyMagic+ like any other ticket.
The maingate though? No one knows yet, but CMs will come "last" in the big scheme of importance. "We work while others play" - did you know CMs get bumped out of resorts first, to the point of their reservations being entirely canceled if their room is needed for a "guest" ?? It's rare, but true.
Thanks again, Mousemerf! Our next trip is next month, so hopefully we'll be OK for that one. This may make us start to vacation differently in the future. Instead of annual trips with some souvenirs and dining, if we either aren't able to use FP or get help with tickets, we'll be visiting much less frequently due to budget concerns. We'll think positive thoughts and hope that it all works out for everyone!
But when will this conversion take place? At resort check in? At the gate?
When will those of us who aren't booked with a full WDW package get to make these reservations?
Mousemerf: any idea how this will work if someone is staying at a Disney Resort but purchases tickets at Undercover Tourist or a Military Base that sells discounted tickets? Will they need to purchase a special wrist band or if you have a room only reservation at a DIsney resort can they put your tickets on a free wrist band? How much do the bands cost?
Your MyMagic+ (aka: Disney.com) account will recognize you as a person with a reservation. You then add your tickets to the itinerary/plans the same way AP holders do. You need the information from the ticket itself physically in hand to do so. If you are picking them up upon arrival or via will call you'll have to do it day-of conversion.. This is where booking a "package" if you're buying tickets is an advantage (unless you're an AP who already has the ticket in hand and linked to your account.)
Some more formal info from disney:
I must just be really stupid because I do not understand a darn things its confusing me to read all of this... I dont want to plan this much I posted the other day I was thinking and planning so much it was giving me a headache!
ok-thanks-so if I have booked a package that includes resort and tickets then I will be able to get into the fast pass plus system when I check in online 60days prior to arrival? I am assuming that is why the site is showing that I can check in so very early online? I was debating changing to room only due to the much better cancellation policy but based on your info perhaps I should just keep my package
one more question: Disney has to link the ticket to our account right? So if I did buy tickets elsewhere that could not be done until arrival at the resort
Disney will refund your package if you have a valid reason for having to cancel within the window. The window exists to stop people from booking "possible" trips and canceling last minute with no penalty. You'd be amazed a the number of "we just didnt feel like it.." cancellations they still get within the penalty window. "Waste our time, we take your money."
Cant be done until you have the tickets in hand. Tickets have barcodes and identifiers you can type in online like APs do. Exception being a package, where Disney knows you're buying tickets.
