New Blog: Starbucks to Replace Main Street Bakery at Magic Kingdom - UPDATED 11/10!

Does Disney not know they have a huge waste of space that they could put Starbucks in? .....

Ridiculous!

Starbucks coffee in lieu of Nescrapè would be awesome, but what are these guys smoking?!

Disney used to be special. It still holds a special place in my heart, but after the recent string of further homogenization, I can't say that I'll put it ahead of any other vacation destination.

You can get Starbucks anywhere. Why can't Disney be an exception to the rule for once?!

^^ YES! Please, build a 5,000 square foot, three story Starbucks. Pack it full of bored dads and diva wannabe moms (the ones that stomp around the parks in 8" heels) but don't take away an iconic location just to say you have it. The Noodle Station is FARRR from iconic... well, iconic for anything good, that is.

Another change in the MK like serving alcohol I am not happy about ... At all.
When I photograph Main Street I will just have to frame my images to exclude one location.

First let me say that I'm not a Starbucks fan. I drink my coffee black, and its usually decaf. I find that Starbuck's tastes "burnt" to me. :coffee:

Now on to my contrarian opinion. :stir: Its not the end of the world!

I can't tell you the last time I was in MSB, but its been a few years. It just hasn't attracted me for a while. I used to love going first thing in the morning and getting one of their wonderful cinnamon rolls. I'd sit at one of the tables at the end of Main Street having my coffee and cinnamon roll while watching the crowd charging towards their first attraction. Wonderful time.

Well, those cinnamon rolls are long gone. Replaced by the bland, corporate cinnamon roll. And the coffee? Yup, replaced by bland, corporate coffee.

I've been to the Starbucks in DCA and was not offended. Its nicely themed and there are lots of good choices. I have no doubt that the replacement for MSB will be equally well themed.

Now if they would just serve Dunkin Donuts Coffee...

Like previous posters have stated, the Starbucks locations at Disneyland are very well themed and don't scream Starbucks. WDW's coffee vender should have been changed years ago! I'm sure Disney will introduce Starbucks in the same manner as they did at DL with fantastic results!

Oh Geez!!!

It seems like outside businesses will be taking over Disney all together eventually. Which is really, really sad.

I don't mind the outside businesses being a part of Disney. But that is it; being a part of NOT taking over. So I don't mind Starbucks Coffee being a part of the Main Street Bakery NOT having a store of their own.

This is destroying what makes Main Street so special and it takes away the magic to it. Gee I guess Wal-mart or Target will be coming in soon. Some of the Main Street stores are large enough.

What Disney address can I write to??? Seriously.

Walt would not be happy; not happy AT ALL!!!!!

This change is really just getting Disney back to its roots. When DL originally opened many of the stores on Main Street were sponsored by other companies. So all Disney is doing now is returning to Walt's original plan. :stir:

I'm with Jeff. The entire appeal of the bakery to me is the smells that float into onto Main Street, and I'm sure that will be preserved.

With that said, I was unaware of the giant appeal it apparently has for lots of people, so seems like it could be an odd decision.

However, I believe everyone is overreacting. Sure, some of the items will go away, but I'd care to bet that many of the more 'famous' items will stick around. The only comparison we have is to FF&P at DCA. And that wasn't replacing something that already existed, so it's an invalid comparison.

The Disney fan community can often be an echo chamber where a small tidbit of news comes out, and then things just go insane from there. The entire blog, and this thread, and the blog update... are all based off of a 5 paragraph blog by Disney Parks. And by and large, everyone is ignoring the statement the poster made in reply to the first commenter, "...yes there will be a selection of Disney favorites that youve enjoyed at the bakery over the years." Sure, maybe that means a Mickey-shaped cookie like in DCA and that's it. But we have no idea, since this has literally not been done before. Everything is simply a guess at this point, so starting a sensationalistic firestorm is probably not the greatest idea.

First alcohol, now Starbucks, the World is ending. ;)

I have to agree with Jeff (and Andy).

It has been a while since I went to MSB but if the food there was the quality of the food at Starring Rolls, Starbucks will be an improvement. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed stopping at Starring Rolls, but it was more because they had brewed coffee than for the food. I'm for anything that improves the food - and serves decent coffee.

This is an absolutely terrible decision. The Main Street Bakery is the very last possible place to be made over to modern times. they are making such a bad decision. If the place stayed the same, but just included Starbucks coffee on the menu there is no problem - but to close down the bakery to remodel to a SB is just sinful.

The only possible place that I feel they could get away with that kind of commercialism is possibly the Launching Pad in Tomorrowland.

That is obscene! I'm sure they'd justify it by saying it was in response to "guest demand." If I want to go to Starbucks, I can stay in Ohio. Honestly, what is going on?

Here's my thinking...

Starring Rolls
Boardwalk Bakery
Somewhere in DTD
Kusafiri in AK

They already announced today that Epcot's Fountain View will be Starbucks-ized as well as the MS Bakery.

Thanks for your wonderful suggestion - Boardwalk Bakery!
Guess we will have to trade in our Boardwalk DVC points.
We don't do Starbucks in UK, particularly as they seek to avoid paying their share of UK taxes.
Guess Disney can earmark every corner on Disney property and stick a Starbucks there to match every where else :furious::furious::furious:

OK, so I'm responding to my own post but I just wanted to re-state the point here. Walt opened DL with lots of attractions and shops sponsored by outside companies. On Main Street in DL at one time or another there were shops sponsored by:
  • GAF (film)
  • Elgin (timepieces)
  • Hallmark (cards)
  • Carnation (ice cream parlor)
  • Sunkist (citrus beverages and sweets)
  • Hollywood-Maxwell Brassiere Company (yes, bras)

They were all themed to fit in with Main Street. I see no reason that a Starbucks can't be themed to blend in as well. They did it at DCA. :mic:

I hate the idea of possibly loosing the main street bakery. I'll keep hoping that they keep more Disney than Starbucks but I won't hold my breath.

As for the fountain view in epcot, I actually think that is a great idea. When I was in high school I remember eating pizza there. High school was a while ago for me, and I haven't been back to the fountain view since. Putting in another location besides the land where we can get breakfast in epcot sounds like a good idea to me, and I bet in that location they get a lot of post illuminations traffic too! The ice cream shop there now is eddys I think, so just swapping out one brand for another, right next to coke and club cool...

True, but being sponsored is different from what's happening here. The bakery will BE a Starbucks. Does a modern day company fit in with the theme of the land?
