Everyone on this board is so wonderful and I'd like to know if my reasoning is sound. I think I might be able to convince DH to join but he does not like Disney. If it were just me, I'd wait for the Beach Club Villas but I was thinking since DH absolutely hates the parks (except for his beloved Test Track)that Hilton Head would be a good choice for us.

As we get older we can just drive to our home resort and not have to deal with the added expenses of park tickets, expensive restaurants, etc. Plus DH always stresses how much he wants to relax on vacation and my understanding is that Hilton Head is very relaxing and not too far of a drive. We are planning on taking a trip to Hilton Head sometime before the year is over so I can check it out for myself.

Anyway, I was thinking that Hilton Head would be a nice compromise - I'll get to own a piece of the magic and he'll get spacious deluxe accommodations in a relaxing setting. What do you guys think?

Also, I'd like to know how many DVC owners from Ohio or Pennsylvania are on this board and what your thoughts are about Hilton Head and the drive down. Any advice you guys can give is appreciated. I am so excited that I may have figured out a way for us to join!

If he is looking for relaxation, HH is the spot! The resort truly invites you to relax. If that's his only requirement.....WELCOME HOME!

The trip to HH is pretty easy. We're in NW IN and it's a 13 hour drive- it may be a little less for you. Most of the trip is interstate and is through some scenic areas. The Smokey Mtns and Asheville area are nice spots for some relaxing vistas! Good Luck with your quest!

What time of year have you visited Disney? Have you tried going in late Jan or early FEb?
We try to go when there are the least ampount of people.

Then we buy annual passes and stay for ten days or more at a time (and staggering our vacations to go one year in Feb and the next in Jan so we can use those passes several times). When we go to the parks, it is usually for a few hours, preferring to spend time at the resorts or on the lake (have you tried the fishing excursions?)

Instead of trying to convince him with words, why not try a vacation where the focus is on everything else that there is to do...walking around in the sunshine when there is snow at home, etc.

We like to stay on the MK lake for a week and then end up at an Epcot resort, strolling over there in the evening for a great meal and then a walk around the lake.

If your DH doesn't like Disney and hates theme parks I don't know if DVC is for you. HH is real nice but it may not be worth alone buying DVC. If you like Hilton Head you might look into a Mariott at one of their resorts on HH. I can't imagine owning DVC and not going to Disney World. That said I hope you can find your way to buy DVC. I think it's great and I own some points at HH but mostly OKW.

I'm from Pa. and use HH as my home resort. I just told somebody over the holidays that buying into DVC was the best thing I ever did! I haven't been back to HH for two years. I've used my points at OKW and at various hotels in NY and NE. The DVC set up is fantastic 'cause you can get into Florida Disney without too much trouble. I didn't buy into Boardwalk Villas 'cause it's too manic over there. Old Key West is truly an oasis amongst the madness that can be Disney.
My advice is to buy into HH, use it as a compromise and spend the points anywhere you want!

If you want to try out HH, I noticed there is quite a deal on the Disney DVC website (NOT in the members only section). If you go to HH during the next couple of months they charge you $99/nite for 3 nites , plus you get 1 extra nite free! That comes out to $75 /nite in my book! For a 2 BDR. The only requirement is to take the tour. I was tempted to try it myself even though we're already members and would not be likely to add on (again). You might want to check out the details. At worst, that's a heck of a price for a vacation and to get information you wanted anyway.

I agree with mikesmom. try one of the HH special promotions. This way you can get a feel for the area and the resort. My family took a weekend trip to HH recently, within an hour DH had decided where our add on was going to be. Now all I gotta do is get the first purchase paid off

Thanks so much for the advice everyone, I really appreciate your help! I was thinking of sometime in late November or early December to make a trip to HH but I am going to check out the promotion deal. I'll keep you all posted (and keep my fingers crossed that this will work out).
