MSNBC Suspends Imus After Racial Remarks

I never could stand him. Always thought he was an idiot.

This makes about as much sense as when Rush was fired from his football job over his racist remarks. These people knew what they were getting into when they hired them.

It's like the old story about the scorpion that rides across the river on the turtle's back and then bites the turtle when they reach shore. As the turtle is dying he asks: "I just helped you cross that river, why would you kill me?" The scorpion answers: "What did you expect? I am a scorpion, that's what I do."

These media companies want the ratings that people like Howard, Rush and Imus bring with their shock jock demeanor and then they have the nerve to be "shocked and appalled" when the shock jock goes over the line.

The funniest thing about the situation is Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson being outraged over someone making a racial remark. Either of them calling anyone a racist is the pot calling the kettle black.

What can they run on MSNBC that is as good as Imus? Oh yeah, infomercials.
I like the Bose one where two tiny speakers sound as good as a whole room full of much larger and expensive speakers.:) If the Bose guy would just tell the test family "you're an idiot" that would be better than Imus.

I have to agree with you on this....and how does Farakhan (sp?) get away with saying the things he does? :confused3

Apparently, freedom of speech applies only when you're the one doing the talking.

that's it. I'm done. I promised myself I would not post on controversial subjects anymore.....

It's only one-way, remember.

It'll only be as long as they think the public will remember.

BTW, I guess if we all stayed mum it will all just go away, huh?

I heard on the radio this morning that this is one of the "ratings periods" for radio stations, so the question came up if both parties are in "cahoots" really milking this for all the publicity they can get?

I'm like Robin, if we'd all just ignore the ignorant comments from either side, both would just go away.

There are a lot better ways we could be spending our time/money on than arguing about name calling. I'm sure we all use words/phrases within our circle of friends we'd not want broadcast to the whole world....the ones in the media just need to use a little better discretion sometimes.

:grouphug:
can't we all just get along? Down deep, don't we all really want the same things? Peace and happiness? and as many of us know, there's only one place to find it:

That's why the whole thing is such a joke.

He wasn't fired. He resigned. I know the difference means little to some.

And I don't really think it was a racist comment taking into consideration the most recent Superbowl.

Exactly! Also, how many other public figures have made offensive comments including some of our most notable congressmen and senators. Imus said it. He apologized. Get over it. I'm not a fan of Imus, but this punishment is over the top.

And in some cases, like this one, there is little difference.

How does the Colts/Bears SB have anything to do with Rush's comments?

Because the media made a huge deal out of there being to black coaches in the Superbowl at the same time.

And maybe you could explain why Rush's comments were racist?

He was FORCED to resign. Here is what he said about quarterback Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles:

"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he really didn't deserve."

That's what I thought, no connection what so ever.

When all else fails, change the subject.

I think he should be fired; if not for the remark, for how ugly his hair is.

Seriously, how many people would not be fired if they, at work, publicly called a group of young women nappy headed 'ho's?

I'm going to have to agree with you there. I'm no fan of Imus. Not because of his remarks, but because I think his show is lame. I love Howard Stern and south Florida radio personality Neil Rogers, both who say similarly inflammatory stuff. Why anyone would get in an uproar about an insensitive remark that Imus said is beyond me. Reminds me of Bill Maher getting canned for his un-PC remarks on his show "Politically Incorrect". Hello?!?! It's part of these guys' shtick. They're equal offenders to all people, and shouldn't be punished for doing what they're paid to do. If you don't like what's being said, simply place your hand on the little knob on the right side of your radio and turn.
