Whenever we go through Mouse Gear at Epcot, for some reason it always smells like a sewer in there. It just really smells horrible. Has anyone else noticed this odor? And if so, does anyone know why it smells like this? Because it has started to get worse every trip.

I've noticed it too...especially when entering through the door closest to World Showcase. The first time I noticed it I thought it must be a child with a poopy diaper, but I've noticed it several times since then. I have no idea what the cause is, but I hope they do something to fix it.

Oh my, I have never noticed this before, but now I see myself walking into my favorite store and gagging. :lmao: No joke! I am sure I will pay attention to this now. :upsidedow

I've not smelled it so much in MouseGears, but definitely in the passageway going by it toward Mission Space. Blech! I've always wondered if it was ventilation from the restrooms on the outside of the same building (the ones that sort of face the water play area) somehow collecting in the passageway.

A couple other things that can contribute to a sewer like smell would be if they are using reclaimed water or well water for irrigation (well water is particularly bad because of a high sulfur content) or if there is a stagnant water feature nearby - we have some algae down here that really stinks. I've never really noticed a smell when I've been there - I'll have to remember to check next time. Where I have noticed an awful smell is the toy store in the German pavilion. It seems to be pretty consistent, but the other stores don't smell that way - just the toy store.

They should periodically move the counters and displays around to clean the floor area underneath. Someone could have gotten off a ride and gone into the store and vomited and some of it went under the front edge of a counter and was therefore overlooked when a CM came 'round to mop it up.

Or maybe the store has a floor drain but never gets messy enough to need more than regular mopping and then (journeyman plumber's license needed) all the water evaporates from the trap and sewer gas starts coming up.

I smell it. I know exactly what you're talking about. And it's when you walk into the part of the store with the kids stuff and the kitchen stuff. When you're over by the men's stuff, you can't smell it. They need to fix it.

Aren't there restrooms on the backside of that building? (on the Mission: Space/Test Track side) Maybe something is up with that.

There's a utilidoor down there too, could be something in the systems below the store that are seeping up.

Totally noticed it, as well as the theater at One's Man's Dream smelling like stale pee. Ah, the joys of having a sensitive sense of smell!

We have noticed it every time we are there for over two years now.....I hope a CM reads this and knows why the smell is there.

oh great, this is one of those things that unless someone pointed it out I wouldn't notice, now I will for sure. Like one of my co-workers chews ice all the time and for over a year i never noticed till some1 sd something now I can hear it everyday! thanks alot! :rolleyes1

YES!!!! DH and I can't stand to go in Mouse Gears because of the smell.

I didn't think Epcot had a utilidor below??? As far as I remember from the Keys to the Kingdom Tour it is only MK that has a utilidor.

EPCOT has a small Utilidor under Future World. The MK's is much larger, but EPCOT does have one.

Yes! The first time I smelled it outside one of the dressing rooms and thought someone left a dirty diaper in there. Then the next year it smacked me in the face when I walked in the door by the kids' stuff. And it's still there, huh?

ewwwwww. You'd think Disney would have noticed and fixed it by now, it's obviously been several years... Unless we all just have the bad luck and the amazing coincidence to be near a full diaper every single time we go into Mouse Gears... :lmao:

Well, we go often and have never noticed the smell. We will be there again in a few days and now we will have to looking for this smell.:cool1:

hey, someone could write a new guide "gross things in wdw". beverly, odor in mouse gears, odor in germany toy store... there's 3 to start someone off. there's always a few fanatics around who would buy it. :rotfl:

Yes, I know that smell. I think every one of us should go up to Mouse Gear management next time and tell them how concerned we are about the strange smell. Maybe that will get something done.

Another place with a strange smell is the walkway between the Beach Club and the IG. As you are walking on the down-slope, it smells like doggy poo. I always wonder if it's fertilizer or what? If it was anywhere else, I'd think someone had not picked up after their pooch. pluto:

HUH??? I never noticed an odor, lol.
