Morimoto Asia Opening Night

My wife and I headed to Morimoto Asia a few nights ago for opening night and could not have had a better time. We set at the upstairs sushi bar and were able to get seats there without reservations within 10 minutes of walking in the door.

The inside of this restaurant is very nice, modern with clean lines. The entire staff was great, especially the sushi chefs them selves.

We had a few different rolls as well as the hot soup and all were fantastic. We actually ate at Morimoto's restaurant in Napa, CA. on our honeymoon and met Chef Morimoto. It was great to see him again this evening and share the photo from four years ago. We got the chance to take another one with him here in Orlando.

Here are a few photos from our evening.

Would love to know if it would be possible later to stop by and have a meal made to go? Maybe ordering it from the bar or something similar. We have a little one that doesn't always want to stick around. I also always come home and order Chinese food as it is one thing we don't eat while at WDW and crave it when we get home.

Did they have other sushi options than the menu that's online shows? I was hoping to try something new and that menu didn't really show anything new that I think I'll like.

I really enjoyed the BBQ Eel roll actually. Probably my favourite dish we had that evening. The problem with this restaurant and it's menu is they had to trim it back from his traditional menus at other locations we have eaten at for Disney sake I believe. The quality is of course off the charts as all his properties are. Still, I hated to see the trimmed down menu here, but I can understand.

Honestly, I don't recall too many options other than what are on the posted menus. Take that in stride as many Sake's were consumed while we were there :)

The posted menu is really just boring. I am sorry but I think I am cancelling my reservation. This is not what I expected from a chef like this and I think he made an error compromising for the $$$. The photos you show are just basic sushi. Maybe it's because I worked for years in California, but I have had GREAT sushi and "spider roll" is not anything close! As I said in another thread this looks like a higher quality version of Grocery Store Sushi!

Just don't take the stupid dining plan and run your restaurant your way!

I said it looks very similar to a PF Chang's type menu. I like that restaurant so I'm sure I'll like this one. Menu prices are outrageous so we are still going to give it a try. Just know that it isn't going to be anything to special.

I'll be postinga more serious review, but I will add after all that they didnt offer us anything off and didn't really act like it was an issue. They stated that food comes out when its done. The table next to me was given the wrong sushi and I watched 10 orders of what I ordered as an entree go out before I got mine.

Yeah, I said early on when they posted the menu it was not what I expected either. Having said that, the restaurant is very nice and we did enjoy the sushi bar and will return this week to try some more rolls. We enjoy the interaction with the sushi chefs and others enjoying their meals there at the sushi bar.

Of course it's brand new and they are shacking down the staff, etc. so I will reserve judgement on service until I have "bad" service, which we did not sitting at the sushi bar. All the staff we encountered were great and we did not wait for anything. Though as I said, we were seated at the sushi bar not "in" the restaurant area.
