Monsieur Paul review

Resorts are my favorite part of the vacation

I love listening to the podcasts as I'm driving but this review made me gasp and have trouble paying attention to the road.

I'm curious to know the final total for your dinner... all of the other reviews have had a total announced in the podcast. It seems like the total is higher than the entire BOG menu ordered in an earlier podcast. I guess I could listen again and add it up but I am still shocked that a dinner with 6 scallops and some spaghetti was worth every penny of $42. I guess i will never be comfortable with spending that kind of money on dinner but I'm glad you described the food so well. I also am surprised there is an extra fee added when using credits on the dining plan.

Please don't make this into a budget related venting thread... I'm just not a person who chooses to spend money in this area and I have no problems with people who do choose to spend their money in this way. Just curious for the final total.

I was there the day after opening. There were three of us.

Each had a glass of champagne to start, then beverage of choice during the meal was iced tea or a soft drink. We each had an appetizer, entree and dessert (one was the prix fixe menu) and coffee with dessert.

The total, after the 20% TiW discount, and adding tax and tip, came to almost $282.

I was happy to hear that they haven't dumbed down this restaurant. It was Val & I's favorite in-park restaurants for special occasions. We've got a reservation there in just a few weeks (after a DCL cruise) and hope to have a similarly good experience.

From what I've been hearing from people I know who've been there and hearing this podcast, they did dumb down the full experience. I saw pics from a friend who takes the best "food porn" of a meal almost identical to the one I did 3 years ago. The only difference? My meal of rack of lamb was presented table side, sliced by the server. A table in another area of the restaurant had Crepes Suzette made fresh in front of them, table side.

I'm guessing the table side presentations were not cost effective and efficient enough for quicker turnaround of the tables, and with more kids dining there with the allowance of the DDP, the table side stuff might prove to be a safety liability. Who knows?

I do a lot of my dining at signature restaurants, but I'm often hard pressed to think I'm getting a good value unless I'm using Tables in Wonderland. I've found myself eating more at the Swan and Dolphin restaurants because I feel their food quality is a better match for the Disney prices these places charge. Of the Disney restaurants, I'm finding that places like The Wave are still a good value for the money.

I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy the "new" restaurant, but I'm not in a serious hurry to go there yet.

Interesting Lori. I'll keep an eye out for those things when we go. I just hope they've continued the old bread service.

Another great review by Kevin.

I haven't yet been to this new iteration of the old Bistro, but Kevin and the team touched on what I loved most about the Bistro, the "escape" of it, how it was essentially hidden upstairs, a place where you can get a superb meal in the middle of the parks.

But I, too, am thrilled that (per the review), the food hasn't been dumbed down.
Can't wait to try it. :thumbsup2

Val & I ate at Monsieur Paul (hereinafter MP) Tuesday. We had a 7:30 ADR but we arrived early at 7:00 and were seated immediately. The restaurant was about half full (or less) at that point and we were given a table at the window. As the evening progressed the rest of the tables filled up and I'd say it was 80% full by the time we finished our meal at ~8:30.

The really good news is that Kevin is correct (no surprise) that the dining experience here has not been dumbed down. We had a very enjoyable meal and found the food/service to be really good. On the way out of the restaurant we chatted briefly with one of the managers and told him how glad we were that the restaurant was maintaining its higher standards. We confided that we were apprehensive about the changes before we visited and he said that he had been at the restaurant for 17 years and was also glad that experience hadn't been de-rated.
