Metal Cabinets?

We live in an older city row home, and plan on selling within the next few years. We need to do something with our kitchen, although we are not going all out because in our neighborhood we will not see the money back. Currently there are metal cabinets in our kitchen. Are there any budget tips with painting these? I'm not even sure what type of paint to use.
