Me – Joh (still 40 at the time of the trip so that is how old I am, OK!). Love Disney, love my DVC, love cocktails

DD – Sian (the girl of many nicknames - Siany Shoo, Shaunessy O’Bell, Shup Sian, Shooey, to name but a few). Loves Lee (her boyfriend), loves her little brother, Daniel (those two have a bond like no brother/sister I have ever known), loves spending money, loves Lays! :lovestruc

This is one of my favourite pictures from our trip, taken on Sian's actual Birthday.

Background:

In March 2013, Sian turned 20. We had both booked the day off work and were planning a shopping trip and lunch out in nearby town, Swindon. Fate conspired against us and a massive pile-up on the M4 found us sitting in traffic for almost 45 minutes of what should have been a 20 minute journey. To pass the time, we got to discussing her 21st the following year and what she wanted to do. We discounted a party as many of her friends and family live such a distance away from us. We briefly considered a weekend away somewhere and then, out of the blue, I said “How cool would it be if we could go to Disney World, just the two of us”.

I never, for one minute, considered that DH would agree to let us go but, to be honest, the prospect of a week of peace and quiet (Sian and I being the noisy members of the family) must have tipped the scales in our favour and before he could say “Oh my God, I’ll have to do the cooking myself for a whole week”, I had booked flights for the two of us with BA, flying out on 11th March for 7 nights. We had briefly contemplated going a little later, since my Birthday is on the 20th but the original dates worked out slightly better for Sian to get time off from work, and I actually didn’t really like the idea of spending my Birthday away from the family.

Knowing that we wanted to spend a fair bit of time at both Epcot and Hollywood Studios, we decided to stay at Boardwalk Villas. We had to wait until 7 months out to book and were unable to get our first choice of a Boardwalk View studio, nor our second choice of Standard View. We were happy to settle for Pool/Garden view though. Somewhere around this time, I was idly playing around on the BA website and realised that, with the current sale on at that time, an upgrade to World Traveller Plus for our return journey would be a steal. So I did that too. With a few more surprises along the way, this turned out to be a fabulous trip and I hope you enjoy following along.

Now, after the rather wordy introduction, I will confess that I didn’t take any notes whatsoever after Day 1. I did, however, take LOADS of photos so this is going to be more of a photo trippy, rather than me waffling on (a fact that I’m sure some of you will be very relieved about). I am hoping to get the actual trip report started a bit later today :)

I'm here!! Can't wait to read more about your trip! And I fully understand spending your birthday with family! I went solo to DL once on my Birthday and despite being in my happy place I was pretty miserable!

Excellent introduction points the way to another fun to read report from you, Joh, so I'll just sit waiting for Day 1 to be posted--soon, please.

Hi Paula  Thanks fro joining in. Yes, I was a little disappointed to be heading home before my Birthday but was so pleased to spend Sian's Birthday there and my own back here with the rest of the family.

Susan, how lovely to see you reading along - no doubt waiting patiently for your grand entrance ;) I am almost done with 'Travel Day' so stay tuned

Really looking forward to this Joh. Anyone who asks me about Florida gets directed to your trip reports :rotfl:

Think we're going back next April/May with DSIL and her DH. Four adults only...... this will be really weird. First time without kids in over 20 years :woohoo:

Thanks Lesley, that's a compliment indeed! You will have a fabulous time - adult only WDW trips are the best (I love my trips with the whole family but find it so much more relaxing when it's just the grown ups).

We have always done adult only trips being childless but I concur. And Joh... I think you need to find your way to WDW a few days early lol. I know not possible with the international flights... I just think it would be a blast! Unfortunately my schedule can't be changed for work and it looks like based on airfare we will actually be leaving early on the 16th.

what a dream - my Mum isn't a fan of travelling so could never have done it that way round but my DD is the other Disney fanatic in the family and what a dream to do that in adulthood :goodvibes: looking forward to hearing all about it.

Paula, if only we could - unfortunately, we are already travelling as early as we dare (since we are having to pull Daniel out of school for a few days). We will get there at the same time one day :goodvibes

It was an amazing experience to be able to share it with my baby girl (albeit that she's not a baby any more) - thanks for reading along.

I hope to take my baby girl to WDW for her 21st as well as it seems the perfect plan.

Oh and that is a lovely photo of the 2 of you as is the one of Sian.

Thanks Claire, I think Sian looks beautiful in that picture of her.

Hi hun, thanks for reading. I'm working as fast as I can to get them done (while I can still actually remember some of what we did) :rotfl:

I should be either cleaning or down the gym.... But instead I'm going to read your whole TR hehehehe xx
