Background:
I started planning this trip in April of this year after our Spring Break trip. I stumbled upon the Star Wars Weekends 2015 thread and found what really feels like a home. It's a great group of people led by the fearless @yulilin3, whose goal is camaraderie and maximum Star Wars at Disney World. This used to mean Star Wars Weekends, but alas, they were canceled for 2016. I had already done my touring plans, had ADRs and FP+ planned and ready to be booked, and the hotel reserved for an early June trip.

Once rumors surfaced that SWW may be canceled, but there could be a Star Wars presence in the Spring, I booked the hotel and ADRs for a March trip. So, I am awaiting info to see if the fireworks will continue through our Spring Break. I guess I am planning two trips, but we will only take one. We have already experienced one defeat with SWW being cancelled, but hopefully, the force will be with us, and Disney will announce the fireworks and possible dessert party info soon. We are also hoping for additional things, like character meals. They have already announced Launch Bay, a new Star Tours scene, some new food items, fireworks, and a dessert party. They just haven't given any dates for the fireworks and dessert party. Keep an eye on this thread for more info.

Inspiration

As I said before, after reading the SWW 2015 thread, I started hatching my plans. I followed the thread from the release of the VIP tours, Premium Packages, and Rebel Hangar reservations. I followed along, and cried, as we all watched the introduction of the Force Awakens cast, the new trailer, and BB-8 at Star Wars Celebration. I have been a Star Wars fan since I was a kid. I watched some of the films at theater and drive-ins. I even had an R2D2 cake made by my mom for my birthday one year. As the new ones were released, we waited in line and saw them too. The new trailer and BB-8 made me realize how much of a fan I am, well really DH and I are, and how I wanted to share this with our son, even more than just seeing the movies and playing with the toys.

Well, some of those hopes were crushed when SWW 2016 was cancelled. Luckily, I am cynical and thought this might happen. So, I booked a trip for Spring Break. During at least Winter and some of Spring, DHS is supposed to have Launch Bay with meet & greets with Chewie, Darth Vader, and hopefully others, new scenes from Force Awakens in Star Tours, some special food items, shopping, fireworks, and a dessert party. We still don't know what nights the fireworks will be or how long they will continue, and dessert party reservations are not available yet. This makes planning really challenging>:( Once info about the special reservation events for this time are announced, I will continue the tradition set for by @Itinkso and start the roll call for 2016. My hope is that these events will continue through June, and we can just do the longer June trip. I still think we can have a great trip and will get to see a lot of Star Wars stuff.

first one, woot woot...thank you for the "fearless" and wait a second, you mean you are not a Minion? :D love the family picture, can't wait to meet you and the family, ready to follow along

March Plans

When: March 11-20, 2016
We plan to arrive in Orlando late Friday night and hit the parks Saturday through Saturday. We will fly back on Sunday.

Where: WDW and Universal
We plan to visit 6.5 days at WDW and 2.5-3 days at Universal. We will do Universal first and then WDW. At WDW, we have switched from Port Orleans Riverside to Caribbean Beach. We stayed at POR last time and loved it. We didn't spend enough time there though. However, the main pool at POR is supposed to be out of refurb a week before we arrive. I was concerned that it wouldn't be done, so I went ahead and also booked Caribbean Beach. It was a water/pool view, since that was what was available. With discounts, it is actually cheaper than a preferred room at POR. I showed DS the pictures of CBR, and he fell in love with the pool. So, yeah, a new resort:yay: At WDW, we typically do rope drop and preferably AM EMH and sometimes stay until the night show/fireworks.

At Universal, we will stay at Hard Rock. We stayed at the Royal Pacific last time and liked it a lot, but we wanted to do something different. Plus, it looks like Hard Rock is a little closer to the parks. I got a pool view room after getting a good AP rate. I haven't reserved any of the Universal restaurants yet, because you usually can't do that until 30 or 60 days out. However, the hotel and ADRs are booked at Disney. I am leaning toward the following plan:

Sat & Sun: Universal. We will definitely eat at one of the Harry Potter restaurants again. We did the Three Broomsticks last time, and the Cornish pasties were awesome. I think we will try Leaky Cauldron this time. We also might do the kebab place in IOA or the QS in Jurassic Park. We will definitely do Margaritaville, because we love the island vibe, margaritas, key lime pie, and coconut shrimp. Mythos was good last time, but I think we will try Cow Fish in City Walk. It doesn't take reservations, but they do a wait list through their phone app. Hopefully, it won't be too busy.

Mon:
Universal in the morning and transfer to WDW in the afternoon and probably just swim at the hotel and eat at the food court or Disney Springs. I also booked the signature massage at the Grand Floridian for me:)

Tues: Hollywood Studios for maximum Star Wars content.
Food - I currently have 50s Prime Time reserved for lunch. For dinner, we will probably get some Star Wars grub form a QS. I think Backlot Express is definitely serving it. We have the fireworks dessert party booked now too.

Wed: Magic Kingdom
Originally, I was hoping to do the Stream Train Tour, but DS doesn't seem interested. So, I think we will hit MK at RD and do a few rides plus FP+ and QS lunch. We will head out early for swimming and an adult date night. We want to go to Trader Sam's and then head to Disney Springs for Morimoto Asia. Hopefully, the hype at TS will have died some, and it won't have a horrible wait. I stalked Disney's site until Morimoto Asia ADRs showed up for March and got one. Finally got DS booked at Lilo's Playhouse while we bask in endless "adults with kids who never see each other alone" conversation, ie hopefully talk and not just drink in silence:)

Thurs: Epcot for AM EMH.
Food - Lunch will probably be a QS. I was thinking Sommerfest, but we are going to Germany in a week. So, probably one of the Food & Garden booths, Sunshine Seasons, or a different QS, and then dinner will be at Marrakesh. Looking forward to the food and dancers. We will of course have to get a margarita from La Cava and dole whip with (hopefully) Sammy's macadamia nut rum from the Pineapple Promenade booth.

Attractions - Soarin' will be down:(, and I don't think Froway will be open yet. We will spend all day at Epcot. After planning out using Touring Plans, I see that we will probably have time to ride things multiple times, since there are so few rides at Epcot now.

Fri: Magic Kingdom for AM EMH and full day.
Food - I am really hoping to get an ADR for the Jungle Cruise Skipper's Canteen. If not, we will probably just do a QS, maybe Friar Tuck's (aka mac n cheese palace:)) or Columbia Harbor House. We have already eaten lunch and dinner at BOG. It was good, but I think we will try some other stuff before returning. We will of course partake of Dole Whip, chocolate covered Mickey head rice krispy, and churros.

Sat: Animal Kingdom for AM EMH.
Food - Lunch ADR at Tusker House. DS loves Donald Duck. I can't emphasize the quality and uniqueness of the food here. It's still a buffet, but probably one of the not miss places at Disney. They also have plenty of regular food for unadventurous eaters. We will definitely get a frozen chai from Anandpur Tea Co and a dole whip with rum from Tamu Tamu. Not sure about dinner yet, it depends when we finish at AK.

Attractions - Since there are not a ton of attractions we do at AK (I don't like zoos, so the only animal things we do are Safari and Flights of Wonder), we will probably ride stuff multiple times. Expedition Everest, Safari, Festival of the Lion King, Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, It's Tough to Be a Bug, Flights of Wonder

If we finish up early at AK, then we might swim at CBR and then hit DHS for more Star Wars Fireworks and tasty, adult beverages.

DSCN0280.JPG

Sun:
Departure Day and DHS:(
Attractions - We will probably hit some highlights, mainly FP+ since we won't make AM EMH RD. Maybe hit Launch Bay, Star Tours, TSMM, TOT (DS only:scared:). We will have to leave in the early afternoon for our flight home.

Food - We will continue our tradition of having breakfast at 1900 Park Fare to see Mary and Pooh. We will probably do a later QS lunch, maybe some more Star Wars grub from Backlot Express and one more chance to get a tasty adult beverage and some cupcakes.

What:
Star Wars vacation

Why: Why not:thumbsup2

How: Leaving on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again. Actually, sadly we do:( We will pick up DS from school on Friday once it's out and fly out to Orlando that night, so that we can hit the parks bright and early Saturday. With plans finalizing, we were finally able to book our flights. We got a 5pm return home, which will give us more WDW time:bounce:

Well, I am short, wear glasses, and have blonde hair. I guess I sort of look like a minion:) I had to go back to our xmas card from last year to find a pic of just the 3 of us.

June Plans

These are obsolete now. We finally decided on March. I will keep them here for the fun of it.

My original June plans are totally shot since SWW 2016 was cancelled. I had originally planned to fly out on Thursday night, after DS's last day of school. We were doing to do WDW 8.5 days and then Universal for 2.5-3 days. I like to do Universal last, because it's so much more relaxing and easier than WDW. I think we might take a day or two from Disney and move it to Universal. We won't need so many days at WDW, since there won't be all of the shows and character meet & greets that SWW has. We will still stay at POR and probably do most of the same ADRs. However, Froway, Rivers of Light, and the new AK TS, Tiffen's, might be open, in addition to a slim possibility of SW fireworks and dessert party. I know Launch Bay will still be going. All of these unknowns really throw a wrench into everything. We will also miss out on trading with the Jawas, but I guess we can always bring this guy along.

So, like every day for the past month, I have been stalking the Disney Parks Blog looking for them to release information about the Star Wars Dessert Party with the fireworks. I am also awaiting info about the Jungle Cruise Skipper Canteen. It looks like my waiting/stalking for both will have to continue:(

Read a rumor that the Skipper Canteen is supposed to open for reservations this morning. Tried at 5amCST online. No luck. Called at 6amCST. No luck. Guess I'll stalk the Parks Blog again today. It does seem imminent though from talking to the CM.

I thought for sure Skipper Canteen was going to release ADRs at 10amEST today, but no dice yet. Nothing online and nothing announced on the Parks Blog. Well, more stalking. I guess I will be trying every hour today. I hope it doesn't happen during my appointment at the car dealer:(

OH, I hadn't heard the rumor that the reservations for Skipper Canteen might open today! I guess I'll be stalking, too!

Hi!!! I'm happy you've started a PTR! Now I can put a face to a name, hehe. You have such a cute family!
I'm sure you will get a lot of Star Wars exposure even without SWW.
Thanks for the heads up on Skipper Canteen! I haven't seen anything yet but am (in)patiently awaiting!!

I think we are out of luck today for Skipper Canteen. Someone reported there was a delay in releasing the ADRs. Oh well, back to stalking.

I just realized that my list of ADRs is getting insane for March. I really need to make a decision about our schedule. We still haven't quite decided if we are doing Universal or WDW first. Some days at WDW are up in the awaiting fireworks/dessert party news. I just wish Disney would make their decisions, or announce them, first:worried: Here's what I have so far, and I really want to cancel the extras ASAP. I had to put together a spreadsheet to be able to double up on some meals. I don't like sitting on things. Plus, we usually only do one TS a day, just because we usually can't eat that much food. I probably should just rip off the bandaid and make a decision. Usually, it's not difficult, but usually we are not trying to hit something specific. Now that I type it out here, it doesn't look so bad.

Sat: Tusker House lunch, might add something Star Wars at night
Sun: 50s Primetime lunch and possibly a SW meal and/or dessert party
Mon: Morimoto dinner
Tues: Tusker House lunch if we do AK, Marrakesh dinner if we do Epcot, or possibly do DHS with an SW meal and dessert party
Wed: Morimoto dinner. If we do MK that day instead of taking the afternoon off, then it would be Skipper Canteen dinner.
Thurs: Marrakesh dinner if we do AK this day, or 1900 Park Fare breakfast if we are leaving for Universal
Fri: Skipper Canteen dinner. We will probably just do QS if we don't get it, because the other TS are not looking appealing and we have done BOG lunch and dinner.
Sat: 50s Primetime lunch and possibly SW meal like Rebel Hangar and/or dessert party if we do DHS. Tusker House lunch if we do AK.
Sun: 1900 Park Fare breakfast if we do WDW last

Santa Fe Mini TR (June 2015) Part I

Between the planning for this trip, we had a couple of other trips. The first one was an adult trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I had been to New Mexico to ski as a kid but never to Santa Fe. DH had never even been to New Mexico. It was only for a long weekend while DS was staying with the grandparents during the summer. We flew into Albuquerque and drove to Santa Fe, which is only about an hour/hour and a half. We didn't take a lot of pictures unfortunately. I wasn't really inspired at the time, but I am getting the photography itch again. So, hopefully, our next trips will be full of wonderful photos.

Hotel
We stayed at the Inn of the Governor's, which is very close to the Plaza. It was a nice place and very reasonably priced, for that area. The room had nice southwestern furniture, a balcony, and a fireplace. They had a good hot, breakfast buffet that was included. They also had a water bottle filling station in the lobby. I love that more places are starting to offer this, because I don't like tap water and hate creating more refuse. They also have sherry in the afternoon. DH and I were exposed to this when we stayed in Carmel several years ago. Since then, we always have sherry or port in the house. Port is exceptionally good with blue cheese or chocolate. The blue cheese does unbelievable things to the flavor of the port. Sherry is better with something not so strong. It's really good with shortbread cookies or biscuits. They had some nice cookies to go with the sherry. They also had white and red wine. They had an interesting drink that combined the sherry and an apple brandy that was made locally. It was really unique. It was all just a nice little, special touch.

Geronimo
The first night we ate at Geronimo. I usually don't like to have reservations on arrival day, but it was a short trip with a lot places to eat. This was the best meal of the trip and one of the best meals and service that we have ever had. The only places that come close are Remy and Victoria & Albert. I got to sit on the comfy, cushioned bench, and the room was warmed with a kiva fireplace and darkly lit. It wasn't as quiet as I would have liked, but the noise was all from people enjoying their meals. Unfortunately, I can't remember everything we had, but here is what I remember.

Cocktails:
Norteno Margarita
- Hatch green chile infused silver tequila shaken with fresh lime and orange liqueur (DH: a little smoke, a little spicy, but good)
Green Lotus - Cucumber, Soju, yuzu lime grastrique, salt (Me: This was awesome. I could have drank a ton of these, except it was strong. The sweet, sour, salt and freshness were perfectly balanced. Soju is like Korean vodka.)
We also had champagne with dinner. DH and I both have allergies and have found the champagne doesn't bother us like wine, especially red wine. Plus, the bubbles feel nice when you are full from dinner.

Appetizer: I can't remember what I had:(
Waygu Beef Carpacio - Mustard & horseradish sauce, herb oil, baby mache & classic garniture (DH: This had an interesting presentation, almost like the way smoked salmon is served with the accroutrements on the side. The mache is a flavorful, spicy type of lettuce, kind of like arugula but not as strong. I am not a big beef person, but what I had was excellent and melted in your mouth. It was also a lot of beef.)

Entrees:
Telicherry Rubbed Elk Tenderloin
- Roasted garlic fork-mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas, applewood-smoked bacon & creamy, brandied mushroom sauce (DH: This is one of the dished that Geronimo is known for. He loved it and said that it wasn't gamey at all.)
Fiery Sweet Chile and Honey Grilled Mexican White Prawns - Jasmine almond rice cakes, garnished with frisee, red onion salad & yuzu basil aioli (Me: This was awesome. The heat, sweat, and smokey were perfectly balanced. The rice cakes cooled the head from the chile sauce. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and huge.)

Dessert:
Chocolate Cake - DH had some chocolate cake, his usual. We don't remember exactly what it was, and the one on the current menu is different. He enjoyed it though.
Fresh Meyer Lemon Crepe - Candied lemon, limoncello syrup, & lemon curd (Me: I love lemon, and this did not disappoint. It was really a lot bigger than most crepes. The lemon curd was very fresh, and there was a lot of whipped cream, which kind of lightened the dish a bit. I don't think that I was able to finish it all though. Man, I wouldn't mind having one right now:))

Luminaria
The other fancy meal we had was at Luminaria. They have a large covered patio that overlooks the garden of the Loretto Chapel. It was very beautiful, quiet, secluded and romantic, even though it's on a fairly busy side street from the Plaza. Unfortunately, I can't remember what we had here. Their menu is very seasonal and looks completely different now than what it was in June. I know that I had the softshell crab appetizer. It was two big crabs: a lot of food for the money. The food was excellent but paled a bit compared to Geronimo. It was cheaper than Geronimo though.

Secreto Lounge at the Hotel St Francis
This was the coolest bar. The atmosphere was nice, and it was open to the outside. We had the Smoked Sage Margarita. It was awesome. Plus, they smoke the sage at the bar while making your drink. They used the glass to capture the smoke. It was really cool looking and exceptionally tasty.

Plaza Cafe
Our last night we decided to eat whatever looked good. We found the Plaza Cafe on the Plaza. It looked like an old diner but served primarily Santa Fe style food. We had the salsa trio. I think they comped us this, since our food took a little while. The chipotle and tomatillo sauces were great. The other was pico de gallo, which was good. I had the Cashew Mole Bowl with chicken. It was the best, smoothest, creamiest mole I have ever had. DH had ???. I was too full for dessert, but they looked excellent.

Anasazi
We meant to make reservations for Sunday brunch at the restaurant at the Inn of Anasazi. We showed up, and they give us the regular breakfast menu. This had happened to us on Mother's Day. DH made, what he thought, were brunch reservations at the W downtown. Unfortunately, we found out that they were only serving breakfast then and the special brunch wouldn't start for an hour. Well, we didn't want to have to kill that much time, so we just ate breakfast. It was actually pretty mediocre and way overpriced. My food was actually luke warm to cold:( I wasn't about to let that happen again, so I found out when brunch would start and changed our reservation. We killed some time at a museum and then headed back. It was well worth it. I really wanted to stay at Inn of the Anasazi. It was featured on Samantha Brown's show. However, I wanted to be able to eat out at nice places and take other vacations, so we opted for the much more affordable option. We had a nice table on the front patio overlooking the street.

Cocktail: We had mimosas, mmmm.

Appetizer:

Gazpacho Trio - This was supposed to be 3 different gazphachos: traditional tomato, berry, and cucumber. I have digestive issues, so I try avoid seeds and whole nuts. I decided to just have the traditional. We split it, and it was awesome.
Pastry Basket - It was very delicious, but I can't recall it all.

Entree:
Parilla - This was meat cooked on an Argentinean grill, a parilla, in the front courtyard. DH had this. I think it was the beef and elk. It smelled, looked, and tasted excellent.
Huevos Rancheros - I have had this dish many times, since I live in Texas. However, this was a step up. Everything was very fresh, and the salsas were awesome.

The Shed
We ate New Mexican food at this very popular restaurant near the Plaza.

Drinks: DH had the Shed Silver. I had the frozen prickly pear margarita. They were great. I love a good prickly pear margarita.
Entrees:
Shed Burger - This is the classic green chile cheese burger. DH enjoyed it.
Chicken Enchilada Plate - I had both the red and green sauce. Usually, I don't like red sauce, but this one was fresh and light. The green was excellent too. The beans and posole were a really tasy departure from the usual TexMex sides.

Kakawa
We had fresh made chocolates and drinking chocolate here. The drinking chocolates were very cool and unique. Some were probably not to most people's tastes. The more savory, spicy ones were really good, but DH didn't like them. We bought some chocolate to eat on the trip and take home, as well as some Chai drinking chocolate mix.

Todos Santos Chocolates
We bought some really good chocolates here. They had mushroom and mice shaped truffles. Very intricate. They are right off the Plaza.

Part 2 will continue the report with the sight seeing.

Santa Fe Mini TR (June 2015) Part II

Plaza
In the center of old Santa Fe is the Plaza. It's a nice area, where a lot of the shops, art galleries, restaurants, and museums are located. Our hotel was just a block from the Plaza. In front of the museum, Native American artists sell arts, crafts, and jewelry. They had a lot of neat things, but we just looked. We didn't do any of the galleries. We are not usually into paintings, and a lot of the art is very expensive. I did get a Hopi charm for my charm bracelet and a pressed penny.

Georgia O'Keefe Museum
This museum is located off the Plaza. Even though we are not usually big fans of paintings, this museum is a must-do. They had some of her traditional flower paintings, but they also had a lot of her landscapes, southwestern, and abstract paintings. There were also a lot of photographs of her, including ones from her husband, Alfred Steiglitz. He is one of the masters of modern photography. I love his work, and it was really great to see his personal, intimate photos.

New Mexico Museum of Art
This was a bit of a let down. Luckily, we were just killing time before brunch. It wasn't very expensive, so that was nice. If you enjoy paintings, you may enjoy it. The art is nice, but the Uffizi and Louvre are a hard act to follow.

Basilica of St Francis of Assisi
We didn't go inside, because they were having services. I always feel uncomfortable going into a church during services, when I am not there attend the services. I feel it's disruptive. So, we just looked at the architecture from the outside. It was beautiful. However, it didn't do justice to its namesake church in Assisi.

San Miguel Chapel
This was pretty neat. It's very old, and it's interesting to think about what it was like when they built this chapel. It was basically free, so you can't go wrong there. Not only was the interior interesting, but the outside was the quintessential Santa Fe architecture.

DSCN0082.JPG

Hyde Memorial State Park
This is next to the Santa Fe National Forest. The first day we tried to hike it started pouring rain while we parked. Luckily, we never got wet, but we didn't get to hike that day either. We finally went hiking in a light sprinkle. It's so dry there though, that it wasn't an issue. We hiked a couple of miles and visited a small waterfall. It was very beautiful, and the weather was perfect, despite the sprinkles. The altitude really didn't bother me, even though I thought it might. This was a nice break from the other more relaxing things we did.

DSCN0079.JPG

DSCN0081.JPG

Ten Thousand Waves
This was awesome. It's a very beautiful and relaxing place. I had the master's massage. It was the best massage I have ever had. The masseuse knew exactly where to apply pressure and how much was needed to release the stress without causing soreness the next day. The room smelled of cedar and pinion (pines) and was partially screened, so that I could see and hear nature. After my massage, DH and I rented a private hot tub for an hour. The private hot tub was completely private with a locked door and high fencing. It included a beautiful tiled hot tub, in the Japanese fashion, a cold plunge, a day bed in a dark room, and a sauna. The hot tub and cold plunge were outside, but there was some shade. Since it was summer and actually kind of warm and sunny, it got warm pretty quick. This was such a nice, luxurious thing, and the private hot tub really wasn't that expensive. I didn't take any pictures, because parts of the spa are clothing optional and co-ed. However, I don't remember seeing anyone unclothed in the common hot tubs. The place is huge and looks like a Japanese tea garden. I like to get a massage on vacation, and this was the best place I have been. I highly recommend it.

I hope you enjoyed this little report. I will probably have more to come, since we have two trips before March:crazy: and another that we took previously this summer. It's going to be crazy busy. I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Just booked the Symphony in the Stars Dessert Party. It only seems to be running through March, so it's a March trip!!!!!:jumping1: I am so excited to finally have that resolved. March is sooner, which is great, but it will be a little bit shorter of a trip, since it's during Spring Break. Plus, now I don't have to get up Saturday morning at 3am PST to book dining for June:jumping3:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/hollywood-studios/symphony-in-the-stars/

Now the wait continues for the Skipper Canteen:bored:

I just found your thread. I'm in! I saw that CM have a chance to preview the Skipper Canteen on the 6th. Hopefully, menus and reservations will soon open up.

Great start to the PTR. First one? Looks like you are a pro. Love the intro picture. Sounds like your in for a fun trip!
