Hello everybody! I'm a long time lurker, and a much longer time Disney fanatic! This will be my first pre-trip report! I'm going to convert this to a trip report when we go, but here goes nothing!

WHO ARE WE?

I am Jason, and work in IT for a financial institution in East Tennessee. Growing up in Florida, I went to WDW several times a year, usually staying in our trusty pop-up camper at Fort Wilderness. My trips probably exceeded the realm of 30 growing up, due to our proximity. When I moved to TN in Middle School, I went through a long (13 year!) drought without being back home.

That brings us to the reason I started going back...

DW is a marketing manager for a large manufacturing company, and is the coolest person I've ever known. She and I met almost 10 years ago, and a couple years into our marriage I suggested we take a trip, as she had never been.

4 years and 6 trips later, it's safe to say she was hooked! We were going to the World almost twice a year, until our December 2014 trip was cancelled due to some exciting news....

This cub arrived! DS has been, as you can plainly see below, well indoctrinated into the House of Mouse. He is a very easygoing baby, and loves anything Disney.

In fact, this is his nursery is about as Disney-fied as we could muster given our budget:

This kiddo is the best thing that has ever happened to us, and I can't even imagine how awesome this trip will be for everyone, and hope he will forever have the love for Disney Magic that we have always had.

Our last day there will be his first birthday!

THE DEETS?

We will be home 4/3-4/9, and staying at our favorite haunt, POP! We have stayed a several other resort hotels, but we always come back to Pop Century. It just feels like home :).

FOOD

I have to face facts. I love Disney restaurants, and especially character meals. I can't wait to see the look on DS face when he sees all of them. (We have been practicing with local events so that it isn't an enormous shock to see them). What says are these? If I told you that, there wouldn't be much interest in the TR, right?

ADR's include: Liberty Tree Tavern (Dinner), 'Ohana (breakfast), The Garden Grill (Dinner), Tusker House (Breakfast), Teppan Edo (Dinner), Be Our Guest (Lunch), and The Crystal Palace.

As you can see, character meals were a high priority this time around.

PLANS

Our itinerary revolves around long naps, early bedtimes, and late mornings (with the exception of one night at MK until wishes and one rope drop). We know to expect the inexpected with a 1 year old, so our only expectation is to do what we need to so his trip is magical. If that means turning our plans on their heads, then so be it!

SPECIAL EVENTS

The only special event we have in stone is a reservation at the harmony barbershop to get his first haircut! At 10 months old, you can see it will be a photo finish to see if this mop on his head lasts.

I'll update this as events unfold! I hope to add packing info before we go, and well document everything for converting this to a post trip report!

Update 1: 45 Days Until we go home!

Today we began shopping for Disney apparel. Not for us, mind you - we have plenty of Disney attire from past trips! Unfortunately, we have nothing that will both (a) fit our son in 45 days and (b) be shot sleeved and breathable for Florida springs (upper 70/low 80 degree highs). Blessing or curse?

Here are his current vacation spoils! It includes several outfits, a swim suit for his first trip into the hippy dippy pool, his firsdt suitcase (Kylo Ren of course), and we could not forget his travel Duffy!

So excited, April needs to get here quick.

Nice! I always go over board on outfits for my boys. And I have to say I love the Kylo Ren suitcase! My son's got Cars and R2D2 suitcases for Christmad, but I wish they would have had that one at the time.

Popping over from the facebook planning page! The baby is adorable. It's so fun going to Disney with a little one!

We are trying to pace ourselves with the outfits that we get him! But, as you can see, we are not doing too good of a job :-). As young as he is, we're really not looking at anything expensive. Eight dollars for an outfit or 5 to 4 dollars for a shirt. We found out last night that that eliminates him from pretty much anything at target, ha ha.

The suitcase actually came on sale from a discount store, I think it was Burlington Coat Factory.

I think I saw the R2-D2 one last night, I think I saw one of those at target, it may not of been the one that you got. I thought it looked awesome!

We are super excited! As we get closer and I keep rearranging or touring from being two adults to 2 adults and a baby, I'm starting to realize how neat it's going to be not only seeing the wonder in his eyes, but seeing the park from a whole different angle. Even attractions I don't think I've been on in 10 years will make it amazing for me, but nothing will be as great seeing him feel the magic that we've always felt!

Haha! I have 351 days 'til my next trip home but I shopped a ton this week for outfits for my whole family. Disney Store online and kohl's both have some good Disney and star wars items in clearance! It's fun to buy but I have to admit I miss buying for a little little one.

I agree, we have so much fun buying for this little guy. We have not yet looked at Kohl's, but will definitely give that a look!

We actually found the mother load that completed his gear at Kmart, believe it or not! We searched online and it said they had a bunch of stuff. Unfortunately they were out of everything in his size for the lion guard, but I will look online for that. I will post the rest of his close tomorrow!

351 Days... I remember my countdown being that long, seems like such a Short time ago. Boy does time fly!

Update 2: Touring

So our touring planning has been much different than usual, wanting this trip to be less guerrilla style and more leisurely. DS still nurses, and while we believe he will be more into food by then, nursing will dictate many office stops, in addition to his naps. So the plan will be to have one offsite nap a day, and one stroller nap. We have never done this with him before, so his tolerance will likely shape the continuation of our nap schedule.

We are also going to not do something we have always done in the past: take Disney transportation! Because of our resort choice and possible high crowd levels, we decided to drive to the parks. This will give us a guaranteed seat, no standing lines, no trouble lugging his jogging stroller on and off the bus and on people, his car seat, and dvd distraction to help him nap. I have seen so much agitation over all those things, especially at the end of the day when the deluge of fireworks watchers lets out, that we would rather spend our waiting time in an air conditioned car and on cushy seats.

Prospective Plans

Sunday AM: Arrival at hotel
Sunday PM: Short afternoon @ DAK
ADR: Rainforest Cafe @ DAK
FP: FotLK, Kilimanjaro, Character Stop
Comments: after we get in and settled in the morning, we plan to go and spend some time in the pool napping, and then off to our standard Sunday park. I know the rain forest café is a chain, but I absolutely love it, and go whenever we are in Nashville. For a chain, it's so Disney.

Monday: MK
Event AM: Harmony Barber Shop
ADR PM: Liberty Tree Tavern
FP: Peter Pan, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion
Comments: The morning will be big for DS, as he will get his first haircut at the barbershop! We have memorymaker, so we will be able to get a fastpass photographer to take the pictures. We are trying to build arcs around the parks for the evenings when we use the fast passes, so you can see this one hits fantasyland, into dinner @ LTT, into Liberty Square, into Adventureland, and out.

Tuesday AM: MK
Tuesday PM: Epcot
ADR AM: Ohana
ADR PM: Garden Grill
FP: Character Spot, SSE, Illuminations
Comments: You could say there are slim pickings when it comes to family rights that need a fast pass at Epcot. True, anything can help your time, but it's just not like any of the other parks. The big deal here was the character spot, as is the theme of this vacation it seems, and prime seating for illuminations. We have never done fast passes for fireworks before, but we do not want to struggle to find a spot or struggle to not get our son hit.

Wednesday AM: DAK
Wednesday PM: Hotel
ADR: Tusker House
FP: Safari, Nemo
Comments: we have never done this before, but this time we will be taking a break mid week after the morning until tomorrow afternoon, and just staying out of the park and playing in the pool and napping. Maybe catch a hockey game or baseball game at petals or on the phone, and just chill to relax leg muscles and not get overstimulated.

* We just found out, however, about the new fireworks Star Wars show that will be debuting the week we get home, so we may go to DHS just for the fireworks and leave right after.

Thursday AM: Hotel
Thursday PM: MK
FP: UtS - JotLM, PotC, SDMT, Space Mountain
Comments: The more I type all this out there, the more I begin to see how having a child skews you towards the Magic Kingdom. The plan will be to get there late afternoon/early evening, hit the little mermaid, go on Pirates, eat dinner at cosmic rays, and then, for the first time ever, utilize the fast pass/parent swap combo to get The mine train and spacebound done in one hour :-) thank goodness for the carousel and people mover never having waits :-)!

Friday AM: Hotel
Friday PM: MK
Event: DS 1st Birthday!!
ADR: Crystal Palace
FP: Peter Pan, MSEP, Wishes
Comments: what better way to celebrate your first birthday then at the Magic Kingdom for the evening, after having spent the majority of the day being nice and lazy, sleeping in, and jumping in the pool. In order to make this super special for him, we make sure to book fast passes for both the parade and fireworks, so he would get a nice great view of everything. We are being lazy and starting late since he would have to be up so much later to see the shows.

Hi! Loving your plans so far! And your DS is an adorable little guy.

We are planning a first trip for our DD for next April (she will be 2 1/2 then). I love that you guys are getting DS's first cut in MK; we wanna do the same!

I could not agree more how much having a baby changes your touring plans. I mean, if you're anything like me I like to planeverything! But at the end of it all, everything depends on what makes baby comfortable and happy.

Super psyched to see how this magical first trip/first birthday celebration goes!

We are doing the opposite. We've never been without kids so our adults only trip is new to us!
Just saw this now that I am on my computer! I'm super excited for your trip, and am going to follow along! It is amazing how a little one will change your viewpoint and your touring in the parks. You all will have such different, yet magical, time!

Update 3: DS's set, what's next?

So, I think that we may have overdone it we were shopping for our son for his first trip. Believe it or not, however, I think the best deals for Disney clothing was at Kmart. We went to the Disney store, but there's almost nothing but pajamas for kids, and we got A couple items at babies R us, since their Disney stock was 25% off, but we didn't find the great amount that we did at Kmart for such a good price.

Behold:

Our next hurdle will be getting him acclimated to naps with loud noises. Now, we have always been proponents of making sure that it is not so silent in the house while he naps, and making sure that things could happen around him so that he will still be a nice sleepy little boy even went there is a loud sound. There really is nothing like Disney volume though! From parades, to Brazilian tour groups, to fireworks, we decided to have a potential ace in the hole and ordered this little beauty:

41wmgHGb9UL.jpg

We should receive it in the next couple days, and I will support on how he takes to it. We are going to try several naps a week while we are out either at the mall or grocery shopping to see if he will use it. If not, are touring strategy will definitely have to change since he takes two naps a day, and we only plan on one long nap being at the hotel.

Finally, we have on order his sunscreen which I'm sure we will have to apply every 7 minutes:

Next: Testing the earmuffs, packing for adults, and time to meet the pets!

We are planning a first trip for our DD for next April (she will be 2 1/2 then). I love that you guys are getting DS's first cut in MK; we wanna do the same!

Yay! It has been very hard for us. He has hair way in his face if not brushed to the side, and what appears to be the beginnings of a rat tail on the back of his head. His hair has to swoop so much in the front we have resorted to calling him "little Trump"! :rotfl2:

Update 4: Odds and ends, mental preparation, time standing still, and magicbands!

Sorry for the long time no update! Life has been crazy with family emergencies, and is just now starting to calm down. I hope to have a much more meaningful post this weekend, but here is a quick update:

1. DS earmuffs came in! Although he was hesitant to let them be put on, he seems to enjoy the novelty!

2. Been getting in the mood, listening to Disney Jr music and park music (I'm a self proclaimed park audio obsessor - over 5 years I have 16 GB and over 700 tracks of park music! :earseek:)

3. Last bu not least, MAGICBANDS!!!! They came in a couple days ago.

Look for another update this weekend!

Update 5: Latest spoils - window decor!

We went to Party City (a party supply chain) since it is DS first birthday, searching for possible window decorations. We enever really bothered with them before, but thought his birthday would be a good place to start (we already have this ptr, right??)! Lo and behold, this is what we came away with! Not bad for window decor for 6$. We also got a candle to place ont he cake we will order for his birthday dinner @ the Crystal Palace our last day there.

Next update, packing extravaganza and other housekeeping...

Super cute stuff for your window! We haven't ever done the clings either, but we plan on it for DD's first trip.
