It is just amazing that SO MANY people will wait that long in lines and not use FPs. I can really see how the rollout of FP+ will greatly reduce business for Disney.

Pay attention to crowds like these when making future predictions.

Though many people, including me, would never go to Disney with crowd levels like what is happening this week, there are more people that go and never use FPs and yet have a great time and will return again and again.

We have good friends headed to WDW next week and use FPs but also have zero problems standing in hour plus lines.

My first trip was back in June of 1997 with my family. Granted, there were no FP back then but we just figured long lines were part of the deal. We were used to going to the local Six Flags and waiting an hour for a ride, so why wouldn't we do that at Disney? We never expected to do everything at the park and never complained that the lines were too long. And to be quite honest, my best Disney memories are from that trip, when I was blissfully unaware.

It wasn't until I started planning my first adult trip in 2002 that I discovered the DIS and learned that you don't have to stand in long lines if you know how to plan. Now I'm spoiled.

Epcot World Showcase was empty last night. Couldn't believe it. We walked right up to the railing for Illuminations about 5 minutes before.

In DHS today and so far got 10:05-11:05 TSM FPs, rode RnR, ToT, Star Tours (twice) and now waiting for Muppets then heading to Disney Junior show.

It really has not been bad at all if you get up and get in at opening. We are staying at Bonnet Creek so we are avoiding all EMH parks this week.

Isn't the whole magic band thing optional? I thought I read that from a Disney exec when responding to the congressmen that was complaining about privacy for children.

So since fast pass+ would be connected wouldn't it be optional too?

The magic bands are more than FP+ and are not required for FP+ to work. The bands also have active transmitters in them. Some think that they may be used to target children with ads in the parks that was my understanding of what Congress was worried about.

FP+ still works with RFID cards in fact it would still work with current KTTW cards, just a little harder to transfer the code number. So it doesn't mean if you opt out of the Magic Band, you would automatically be opted out of FP+.

What I don't understand are the people who are in standby lines with posted waits of 60 min yet the fast pass line has a return in 20 min. Ha!!! I've been following wdw lines this week to prep for our trip next week and today at noon Jungle cruise and splash ha 60 min wait but fast pas return was 12:30

I guess I meant the people who never use fast passes and don't understand them. I've had several people I know stand in lines b/c they just do the park at a leisurely pace. Basically up until noon today most things were reasonable.

You know I was worried about going in three weeks because it'll be the end of the spring break time. But seeing what it's like this week has definitely put me at ease since it won't be this bad.

Sounds similar - Between 8AM and Noon my friend did 7 MK rides and 2 Epcot rides.

I am sure they have slowed down by now - last report she sent a pic of herself drinking a beer in Epcot :goodvibes

WDW needs to lower their accepted capacity significantly. But, I guess they will keep raking in the bucks as long as people are willing to put up with it.

or... gasp!... continue to add more capacity and rides instead of expensive intricate bug-infused "tools" and guest-routing infrastructure that reduces the amount of rides one can ride and helps them sell more merchandise to the lemmings who get FP+ for Swiss Family Treehouse.

It seems like today was the shortest closure of the days so far. This weekend will probably be Te worse as you cross between two spring break crowds those arriving and those finishing up

They won't, until an emergency causes a stampede and people are injured or killed. There is no way they could get people out safely with that amount of people in the park.
  21. I admit, I have not read every post in this thread, so this may have been mentioned - but does anyone think these crowd levels in the parks have been exacerbated by the cool weather - i.e. less people spending the day by the pool or in the waterparks? we are going next week and plan on 2 solid days of pool time/hotel time - but if it were 50 degrees, we might revisit that plan!
