You can use your phone at sea but it is about 7-8 dollars a minute. You will switch over to "cellular at sea" once the ship gets about 2 miles away from the shore. That is a maritime communications company. But when you are in port you can use your cell on the ship with the local service provider and whatever roaming rates they charge you. I even had cell service on Castaway Cay, which was a first. But of course it was on roaming and I think it was about .39/min. Would have to check with your service provider about local roaming. Hope this helps

The cost is $2.49 per minute for most providers, but check with yours. We have Cingular/AT&T and it was $2.49. When in port the ship turns off their service so the local rates apply.

We have Verizon and just used it on the med repo. I believe our cost is about 2.99 a minute. Since the internet was pretty flakey it was a godsend to be able to keep in touch with our family. I called the kids each day to check up on them and make sure that all was well.

there's two different rates of service.

when in port, you're picking up local service, so you get charged the respective international rates.

at sea, in your state room, it's another rate.

links to the information for most major carriers is provided at http://www.cellularatsea.com/endusers.htm
