I've been poking around this area the last couple of days, and I can't seem to figure out where to find this.

I saw a post linked somewhere that had Mickey shirts that were made of spiral mickeys. I'm pretty sure they said it had come from Family Fun.

You mixed up starch ??? and water to a paste, squirted your pattern onto the shirt, then ???? maybe laid it in the sun??

My kids are teens, so the cute transfer Ts probably wouldn't go over as well (plus all the ones I've done wear out really quickly, and we visit WDW A LOT!). I'm going to try the tie-dyed Mickey after our Spring Break trip. But I'd really like the spiral Mickey's for our trip with my college roommate.

Thanks for your help!

You'll find that thread a little further down on the first page. It is called "Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt". Hope this helps

Actually, I found that one. That's the tie dyed one. The one I'm looking for is different.

You take a plain shirt, then squirt some goo onto it in the shape of mickey. Once the goo hardens, you paint or dye or something? over the goo, then after everything dries again, you crack off the hardened goo and have a spiral looking mickey under the color?

I just don't know how to make the "goo" or how to color over the hardened goo.

The picture I saw had true spiral mickeys, not tie died.

Here you go:

Hi...someone asked me for the directions to make the shirts in my sig so here they are: (sorry if they've been posted on this thread already)

I think this was from the Family Fun magazine.

Supplies:
Squirt bottle (I used an almost empty glue bottle and just cleaned it out)
Flour
Water
Spray fabric paint

Mix the flour and water until it is the consistency of mustard and pour into bottle. Squeeze onto the shirt in whatever pattern you desire. Lay the shirt in the sun to dry. After the mixture has hardened completely spray with fabric paint then lay the shirt in the sun for paint to dry. When the paint has completely dried slowly peel away the flour/water mixture to reveal the pattern below.

I did this on a hot day at the end of September and by the evening we had all 7 shirts ready to go. I even added spray glitter for fabric after we peeled the flour mixture off. We got lots of comments from CMs and guests alike. The CM on the boat to and from Tom Sawyer Island loved them...he said, "OOOOHHHH I love those!!! I read about them in Family Fun and have been dying to make one!!!" I hope he did because they're so easy and fun and you just can't mess them up!

The magazine had a sunburst pattern I believe. We just wanted to make it more Disney-ish and decided to use Mickey's head. I just swirled the mixture around and around with some being straight and others being at angles. Little did I realize that DisneyQuest has that same pattern on the "Q" and the folders that you get your Photopass pictures in also have Mickey's head in that same swirl pattern. Pretty neat!!!

I am sorry that I misunderstood what you were looking for. I am so glad that Kristine was able to help. I'll have to try this someday - looks fun!

Oh those are awesome! I definately think I am going to have a go at them. They look like they would turn out better on white than on colored shirts ... has anyone tried them on colored ones?

Thank you Kristen for the direction on making these design.

I'm going to try them on some Lime Green shirts I have first. I'm trying to decide what paint color to use.

My DD (almost 15) is lobbying for black. She really likes black, so I fully expected that!

I was leaning toward yellow, but I'm not sure there will be enough contrast. Maybe orange?? But will that be clown-like? What do you guys think?

How about turquiose? I like that with lime and I think might be teen friendly...

Kristine ... you used fabric paint that is in a can? I guess I ahve missed this do you just get it at the craft store?

I like that idea. My 13 1/2 year old DS is already saying "I don't DO family T-Shirt!" I told him "You may think not, but I know who packs in this family!

BTW, I really really really enjoyed your Trip Report!

Virginia, I'll definitely post pictures.

DD and I were talking about these last night. She wants to do a pirate Mickey on a red t-shirt. She's a good artist, so she can probably pull it off. But that will be for a different project!

I think I'll do the black on lime green right at the Mickey for hers, then the turquoise around the black.

For mine, I'm thinking turquoise on the Mickey and dark blue around it. I'll probably reverse that for my mom's.

For DS's I'll see what I can talk him into :)

Well I'm back. The best pictures I got are these.

It just didn't work too well using the green shirts. The paint really needed to be thickly sprayed on to show up. I made one with silver paint, and that was impossible to see the lines.

I'm going to try again for our upcoming summer trips, but I'll go with a light shirt and dark paint.

I was also surprised that each can of paint was really only enough for one shirt. We used two colors on each shirt, and each can lasted for two shirts.

And don't ask me what my son was doing in this picture. I know it's not what it looks like!

WOW - these are awesome! I'll have to add these to our "must haves" for our upcoming trip . . . although we are fast running out of days to wear all of our custom made shirts!

Are you supposed to use more than one color fabric spray paint. Kristine's looks like they have 2 colors on the shirts. They look really cute!

Does anybody know if "sun" is an important part of the instructions -- or do you just need to let the flour/water dry before you paint it?

My daughter has chosen Mickey as the theme for her 3rd birthday party (May 5) and I'd love to make these for the goodie bags. However, I'd like to get started and, alas, the forecast calls for rain, rain and more rain. I'm wondering if an overnight on my dining room table would do the trick.
