Les Halles Bakery Epcot/France

    Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but I was just looking at photos of the new France bakery & ....ew.... I have to say, not crazy about the theming :( I like that they expanded it, but they really compromised on theming. The old one was too small, but I thought it was quaint and authentic looking. The new one just looks like a big room with modern computer screens.:confused3

    Les Halles is the name of the very famous landmark food market in Paris that was nicknamed "The belly of Paris", I believe. It's not to be confused with the very modern Les Halles mall that has replaced it. Or the very charming (and extremely expensive) Anthony Bourdain brasserie of the same name. I don't think there was ever an intention of making it look cute, like a small neighbourhood boulangerie would be.

    I think that the new boulangerie/patisserie would be very reminiscent of its namesake. As for the presence of computer screens ruining the authenticity- would you prefer gas lights, manual cash registers (no credit cards/KTTW), and no refrigeration? Now THAT would be authentic to the period.

    I'm just glad to see it open. The seating area is much more spacious and the food porn that I've seen on the other thread has me wiping the drool off my keyboard.

    I am thrilled that it's finally open. Our family are going to be there next week and I was holding my breath that it would be open for business. I'm going to start with the lobster bisque, and finish with creme brullee... but I cannot decided what to have in-between, oh well I'll just have to keep going back until I've eaten it all!

    Saw it in person tonight, it looked nice. It's more high-tech, but honestly the old shop was small and hard to deal with the huge crowds and lines going out the door. I think they are able to serve a lot more people now with less wait. We've walked away many times from the old bakery because the lines were too long, even though the food and desserts are great, who wants to wait 40 minutes for food? YMMV.

    I agree that the old shop was too crowded & an expansion was definitely necessary-I used to feel so rushed making a selection because I knew many others were waiting behind me. & I'm definitely looking forward to trying the new menu!

    I'm just a sucker for WDW theming and detail & I wish they had incorporated more of that into the decor of the place, like they do in many of the other shops and restaurants in the WS. Maybe it will look nicer to me in person....

    I ate here today. Had the toasted ham and cheese croissant, which was yummy! Also got the Napoleon which I was disappointed in. I had heard great things about it, but it had absolutely no flavor. My mom got some raspberry dessert which was good. I'll give it another chance, but now know to stay away from the Napoleon! The line for this place is absolutely horrendous. It goes two ways, but only one entry point with the other blocked off, so people were cutting in front of others. Seating was very plentiful with seating inside and out.

    I have heard that they changed the napoleon. Bummed out. We love getting the ham and cheese croissant and napoleon. Does anyone know if the napoleon at Starring Rolls is the like the one that used to be at the France bakery?

    Our napolean was also not very good. Tough and not flakey at all. The eclairs were also tough and not flakey. The glaze was a very thick fudge type frosting instead of a thin glaze.
