LA Transportation to Disneyland and Universal Hollywood

Hi!

My brother in law is taking a 3-month course (he has been there for a month already) in Altadena, north in the LA metropolitan area. He wanted to go to both Disneyland/DCA and to Universal Studios Hollywood.

He doesn't have a car, just a bike, so he wanted to take public transportation or shuttles to get to the parks. From his searches some sites are predicting 3-4+ hours for him to get to either park!

Do you have any suggestions for him to be able to get to either park faster? He is almost giving up on trying the parks because of this!

From Altadena to Universal is easy. The Gold Line to the Red Line - get off at Universal. 40 minutes.

Almost as easy, but longer from Altadena to Disney. Gold Line to Red Line to Union Station. Union Station to Anaheim (Metrolink or Amtrak) then ART to Disneyland. About 90 minutes.
