Highs
The reactions of the kids

Their excitement when we told them where we were going, their faces when they caught their first glimpse of the castle (Nick started jumping up and down!), their joy at meeting all the characters and seeing how much they enjoyed the rides. All brilliant and made it worth all the money planning, packing, travel stress etc!

Ratatouille Ride
I was so looking forward to this and I was no disappointed. It exceeded my expectations. It was so cleverly done. A real multi-sensory experience. We were lucky enough to ride it twice and we all loved it both times.

Bistro Chez Remy
The Ratatouille restaurant; this was new to me aswell. The theming is just brilliant, you're totally immersed in the surroundings and you really feel like you are the size of a rat! The food was lovely and we had a fab waiter. The kids all said that this was their favourite restaurant. It was fairly reasonable too; I think it was €73 for me and the two kids and a glass of wine.

All our other restaurant choices!
We didn't have a bad meal. We enjoyed every one of them. Apart from Chez Remy, we ate at Blue Lagoon, Inventions, Auberge De Cendrillion (lunch with the princesses) and Annette's Diner. We also had hot chocolates and crepes in Cafe Fantasia (in the Disneyland Hotel), which was lovely, albeit quite expensive!

Meeting Stitch and Sleeping Beauty
These are John's favourites so I was really hoping we would meet them, especially Stitch as we hadn't met him before. The Easy Access Pass we got for him was a Godsend for both of these meets; otherwise they wouldn't have happened.
We met Stitch in the Studios and he was great fun. Very playful and he loved John's Stitch hat.
Also when we went to the 'Stitch Live!' show, John got picked out if the audience and Stitch took a photo of him and then swallowed the camera. He was thrilled!

We didn't see Sleeping Beauty at the Princess lunch so we chanced our arm at going to the Princess Pavillion the next day. We were in luck! The very kind CM let us pick between Rapunzel and Aurora. John was so happy to meet her and we got some fabulous photos. We were beaming from ear to ear coming out! This was a big highlight.

Nick!
Nick was taller and braver than last year! A the only ride he didn't do that John did was Crush's Coaster.

Dreams
An amazing show from beginning to end. Enjoyable for kids and adults alike.

Weather
It wasn't as cold as I expected. Well it was cold, but it didn't bother us too much, and Wednesday and Thursday were lovely sunny days.

Adagio Apartments
These were better than I expected. They were clean, spacious and well equipped. A one minute walk to the Val D'Europe shopping centre where there were loads of shops and restaurants.

Annual Passes
These gave us 10% discount in the restaurants, 20% in the shops, (which really helped to take the sting out of the prices!), free buggy rental and free baggage storage. Very handy indeed.

Lows

These are only small things really, they didn't affect us too much. Just little moans.

Ratatouille Ride closure
My poor Mam queued for an hour to get Fastpasses for us only to discover that the ride wasn't running. It didn't open at all that day so we had to go back the next day but thankfully we got on it then.

Queue jumpers
These drive me NUTS! Lots of them around Ratatouille, but plenty of others aswell.

Stars & Cars Meet & Greet in the Studios
This was a scrum. There's a roped-off circle and the characters are in the middle, going around the circle, signing autographs and posing for photos. Sounds great in theory but in practice it didn't work as there were no organised queues and it was the people who pushed & shoved their way through who got to meet the characters. We ended up using the Easy Access Pass here as I was scared that the kids would get trampled on or lost! So thankfully we did get to meet some characters.
Last year they had a better system with organised queues and CMs making sure that people didn't skip.

Photopass
We lost our Tower of Terror photo and I didn't realize until it was too late. It nearly happened again at Big Thunder Mountain and Princess Pavillion - you really need to double check that they're properly loaded on the card.

Rain
Friday was very wet. It rained all day. Thankfully we were well prepared with good coats, boots and ponchos. My sister and nieces, however, got fairly wet and had to change socks a few times.

Traveling from Adagio to the parks
Now were spoiled on the last two trips, staying in the Disneyland Hotel and Hotel New York, which were very close walks to the parks. Having to get the bus/train/taxi was a pain. Especially in the evenings.

Airports!
I just find it so stressful traveling with kids! Especially without DH!!!

Trip report and photos to follow!

Fab highs!!! I looked out for the hats but it was slightly manic at times! ;-)

Yay for Sleeping Beauty and Stitch meets - Rosebug was sad she didn't see Aurora this trip, she is totally smitten with her but was happy with a wave and a kiss from the parade!

Totally with you on the restaurants and Ratatouille! And the queue jumpers...even in the EAC queue people were just walking past us and standing, a few times I had to step back around someone who had pushed in front of me, once someone pushed Rosebug out of the way in the EAC for Buzz. I was furious as her tummy was really very sore and she got quite a shove.

I don't like the rope circle at Stars and Cars either. Too much of a scrum.

We also did alot of "reaction" this time and it was lovely. Little squeals and jumps and skips. It is what it is all about.

Glad you had a fantastic time!

So glad you had a great trip!! :)

I so agree with you about Chez Remy's Bistro - I enjoyed it so much the first time, I booked it again and both times the food and atmosphere were great.

Yeah - the rain has been annoying at times - I think I spent a good part of Friday at the pool/sauna/steam room - it was just too dreary outside to motivate me to go out much.

Welcome back, glad you enjoyed your trip. I need to book a trip as I want to see the new Ratatouille ride and restaurant

Sounds like a good trip! We were really impressed with our meals and the service this time aswell. It's a shame the travel to the Adagio was such a pain. I would like to stay at Val D'Europe as we enjoyed shopping there, but the travel is off putting. I wonder how long it takes to walk?

according to Google maps it's 2.2km, or 27mins walk. I think there's enough walking in the parks without adding that much to it!!!

love your highs , shame bout ur lows. can i ask how do you use the easy acess pass at stars+cars?

There's a separate roped-off area at one part of the circle with a wheelchair sign. You don't get to choose which character you meet. we were very lucky that stitch came as he was the one DS really wanted to meet!

Welcome home Dee
Fabulous highs! Delighted the kids loved their surprise :banana:sounds like you all had a great time. I hear ya on airport travel. I had thought of a harness for James but he'd think he was a horse!
Thanks for sharing. Best get use out of those APs. Stalk Ryanair ;) guaranteed you'll find a bargain

Sounds like a fab trip! That's a shame about Stars 'n' Cars as we met lots of characters this way last year. Once we got to the front (by people leaving) we managed to stay there and wait for the characters to come to us.

I had a harness for Nick (a Mickey Mouse one!) but I could have done with one for John too!!!

Welcome back and glad you had such a great time! We found the rope circle pretty good when we were there a couple of weeks ago but it was quieter then and we were in the disabled area. As BabyAriel says, if you wait when the characters go away and wait 5 or 10 minutes a lot of people go away and different characters come back then. It is a bit of a lottery though and a character you want might never get round to your side of the circle. So pleased you got to see your favourites anyway. :goodvibes

We couldn't find this when we went in December, I think perhaps because we were late the one day we managed it. They only had Stars and Cars for 15 minutes a day in Christmas season. Another TR I read said that if the disabled section wasn't busy the CMs let others in so it defeated the purpose. Delighted John got to meet his faves. :thumbsup2

Anemone I just spotted your ticker! You must be on the countdown now! Very jealous.

Thanks Dee, it's my treat to myself in what will otherwise be a family visit. I've booked 2 nights in a hotel just across the road from the Parks entrance and will buy a 3 day park hopper ticket. Single rider queues here I come. :cool1:

Ah wow! Fab - hope you have a blast. That was my first experience of a Disney park - I was 19 and Ariel obsessed. For some reason ALL I can remember is getting my photo taken next to an Ariel statue? Off to look for my album now..,!

nice one! any other planning done yet?
Thanks ladies - no Dee, apart from reading the Ca sections of the forums and saying hi in the March check-in thread. My brother and his wife just had their first baby a bit prematurely and have been preoccupied with all things baby. I didn't want to book until I'd checked that they hadn't made plans involving me the week I arrive. Seemed a bit cheeky to arrive, stay a couple of days then piss off to Anaheim but I want to avoid the busy Easter fortnight.

I spoke to Rory on Wednesday night and they're cool with it so I booked hotel straight away - carpe diem and all that. Going to do a PTR on the California part of the Dis and see if I can pick up any info. Can't take Catherine this trip, the flights would be too much for her so I'm feeling pretty guilty about being away for 3 weeks. I really need the break though. :)

Thank you. Would be lovely to see a few pics if you wouldn't mind sharing. :goodvibes

We are absolutely loaded with a virus this week. My sinuses feel like they've been scrubbed with a wire brush and caustic soda and my chest is incredibly painful when I cough so I have to do that as little as possible. Catherine is very chesty so we could both be at the out of hours doctor tomorrow.

Anemone - don't feel guilty. I've seen via here how much to dedicate to Catherine, and I'm sure she would be very happy as long as you are happy! (Maybe not mentioning the Disney element of the break is wise though! lol). But seriously, you are an amazing sister.
