What clothing did you wear at ports and Tracy Arm on deck?
on port days i just wore a long-sleeve shirt underneath a hoodie; DS8 and DD4 did the same. DH wore a t-shirt and sweater. i did feel that for the white pass yukon rail i should've brought my raincoat, or at least a windbreaker, because it did get quite cold up there in the summit. the kids didn't complain though and neither did DH.
tracy arm day: we spent most of the day on our verandah, but i did head out to deck 4 for a bit. on that day i wore a turtleneck under my hoodie, and had a beanie and gloves on (the fingerless type where you can slip a cover over them and they become mittens; will have to add photo later). it did get a bit drizzly so if we were on deck 9 or 10 a raincoat would've been helpful too.
Was Guest Services flexible in terms of scheduling ticketed meet and greets/character breakfast to work with your excursion times?
sort of. i picked up tickets for character breakfastc (day 2 morning), princess gathering (day 2 morning), anna & elsa (day 2 afternoon), pixar pals (day 5 morning), and olaf (day 7 late morning). because the first three were scheduled for day 2 and plus the third one would've taken place during DD's nap time, i went to GS and begged to switch out one of them. the lady was slightly (just ever so slightly) grumpy about it, but she did reassign anna & elsa to our day 4 late afternoon, which worked out beautifully.
We are going August 3. Was a warmer jacket needed on sea days while on deck? Or a light sweater is okay? Hats? Gloves?
see above. i tend to get cold but for our particular trip a hoodie was enough except for day 7 (second sea day) when it was cold and rainy. i did see people wearing hats and gloves but they may have been from warmer climates. layering is key. i read that on all the trip reports before going and now i understand. it rained on a few of our port days, but it was mostly drizzling, never enough to be annoying other than the last few hours in ketchikan (day 6) and day 7. but again, just light rain.
How did you get from the airport to the port? I will be staying 2 days in Vancouver but I'm used to Happy Limo and don't know what to do in Vancouver! Its just me, DH and DD.
we stayed at the delta suites (4 1/2 blocks from the cruise terminal), so we took the skytrain from the airport to waterfront station, which is the terminus station (3 blocks from the cruise terminal). it was very easy. because we planned to take the skytrain both to and from the airport, DH opted to buy a booklet of 10 tickets from the 7-eleven inside the airport, which cost ~CAN$21 and saves you the airport surcharge fee if you were to buy single tickets.
caveat: using the tickets is slightly complicated. from the airport to waterfront station is really two zones, but on the weekends (we arrived on a saturday) it counts as one zone. if you were to go there during most hours on a weekday it's two zones, which means you have to pay an extra CAN$1.75 at the ticket validating machine. hope that makes sense.
Glad you had a great trip! We will be on the Wonder soon!!
woohoo!
I am wondering what time you arrived at the port and what time you actually got on the ship?
here's the timeline:
10:30: hailed taxi from hotel.
10:35: arrived at port terminal.
10:40: (waited for various taxis and porters to pass us before getting out of the taxi) dropped off luggage with porters, then went thru a series of checkpoints: carry-on scan, immigration and customs, up some escalators for
DCL check-in (photos taken for KTTW card, etc.), kids' club check-in (wasn't planning on doing it at the terminal but the line was only 1 family deep), then down the escalators.
11:30: arrived at DCL waiting area to take photos with Mickey (though by the time we got to the front of the line Goofy switched off with Mickey). our boarding number was 7 even tough our PAT was 11:30.
12:03: group 7 was called. yay!!!
12:05: went thru the photos line, long throng of people as we walked along and had our photos taken again.
12:11: entered deck 3 atrium.
And,what entertainers were on board?
the day 3 magic show was kyle knight and mistie who were very very good. there was a juggler's act by marcus monroe on day 6. we didn't go to any of the other adult acts. if you're really curious i can search thru my navigators and let you know. just ping me.
Is Saving Mr. Banks showing on stateroom TV? TIA!
we didn't watch a whole lot of movies in the stateroom; when the tv was on the kids wanted to watch cartoons, so no help there...
DD and I are planning to use Skytrain from airport to Canada Place since we are staying at Pan Pacific pre-cruise. I think taxi is about $30-35 from airport to cruise terminal. Click
Here for more info. My DD is a teenager and we have each a backpack and a rolling luggage, so we want to try Skytrain. If your DD is younger and you have more luggage, you may want to consider getting a taxi. Hope this helps!
completely agree. we had two big rolling suitcases, which DH took care of, and DS8 helped with the carry-on roller bag. i had my hands full with a backpack, another carry-on, plus DD. if your kids are old enough to help with the bags, skytrain is excellent. my kids really enjoyed it because we don't get to ride public transportation much in our area.
