What is the best strategy to get the slot you want for Jedi Training Academy these days? Is the sign up still in the same area? I though I read somewhere it was moved to outside the gate?

Arriving at least 45 minutes before the park opens is still the best strategy.

Look for JTA sign-up signs near the far left entrance tapstiles. The CMs may allow JTA guests early entry to sign up at the Indy store that's next to the Indy show.

If they aren't allowing early sign-ups, head to that area when rope drop occurs.

Thoughts on early ADR at Hollywood & Vine to secure spot for JTA? Worth the price of breakfast for 4 or just get to park 45 min early?

Not any more. There is very little advantage to an H&V ADR with the new signup protocol unless you really like Disney Junior.

Do the kids have to be with me or can I go early and secure a time for later in the day so we can come back in the afternoon without dragging the whole family out early in the morning?

The kids who want to participate must be present, and they have to be able to answer the questions at signup.

Thanks! They are 8 and 9 so questions shouldn't be an issue. One more thing...if we get there at rope drop will we be able to pick a training time for later in the afternoon?

Yes, absolutely! You can pick any time that is available :). I am usually frantically scrolling through the day's fast pass and dining reservations on my phone while trying to decide on a time and they are clearly used to it.

Just curious... what time do the signups usually fill up? If I don't care about a time slot, when would the latest be that we could wait in line to sign up do you think? THanks :)

Also curious about this, if we are not there at rope drop but arrive around 10am, could we get a time slot for late afternoon? Anyone have any insight?

It's dependent upon a variety of things:
~ EMH or not
~ number of shows per day (15 or 20)
~ weather forecast - shows are downed if it begins to rain; canceled if lightning is within 7 miles of the park
~ number of kids whose parents bring them prior to rope drop

The safest way to secure a spot is to arrive prior to rope drop with your child.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but what sort of questions do they ask and what are they looking for? My will be 5 year old would go nuts for this but he's had tubes twice and his speech is not the best for his age.b

Oh don't worry, it's not like they are doing SSATs with them ;)! They mostly need to know their age, whether they are scared of Vader, and whether they agree to listen and follow instructions. That's pretty much it!

And that doesn't even matter because my son was 5 and totally dropped his light saber at the beginning of the show, totally embarrassing lol
