:welcome: one and all to my first official trip report! I'm excited to actually be able to write one now, since we just returned from our first big family Disney trip! I have written a previous pre-trip and trip report for my last visit, but those don't count because we were only there for one day so the reports were very short. THIS time, I get to share my stories from our 6-day vacation with my family! It's also a good way to keep me busy while we pass the time until our May trip to Disneyland. :scratchin
For those interested in following along, I will post the index and shortcuts in my next post and then quickly get into introductions since there are a lot to go through (we were a party of nine). If you are interested in reading about all the crazy planning that went into this trip ahead of time, you can find the link to this pre-trip report in my signature. Stay tuned for further updates!

I would love to follow along! We just got back from our first trip as well and I'm suffering the post disney blues!

Awesome!! Did you have a magical time? The post-disney blues are the worst, especially when time flies so fast during the actual vacation! I'm so glad we have another trip coming up in May to keep me sane :yo-yo:

It is time to introduce the giant pack of people that joined in on this amazing trip. Introducing: the Martin/Joslin/McNeal family! :jumping1:

Told you we were a big group :P Let's see the easiest way to do this. From left to right:
Austin (white Mickey sweatshirt)-he's been my Disney partner the last couple years and loves Disney ALMOST as much as I do :ssst: He's also my husband <3
Ethan (black sweatshirt)-newbie to flying, Florida, Disney and everything else relating to this trip. Also my stepbrother. Never been big into Disney, but he did have fun. Everest was one of his favorites.
Taylor (AKA me in the green sweater)-21yr old Disney-obsessed college senior. I was the travel agent/trip planner for the entire thing. It was also my first time at Epcot. :magnify:
Tony (grey sweatshirt on the top-middle)-my stepdad. Disney brought out his playful/funny side which most of us weren't use to XD He really likes Epcot.
Brenda (AKA my mom in the grey under Tony)-she likes Disney and went a LONG time ago. She loved our resort and Animal Kingdom, especially the safari.
Macy (little girl in middle front and one of the biggest reasons for this trip)-she got her first taste of Disney magic! Also first time flying. She's also a daredevil and went on everything!
Carter (back-right in black)-twin brother to Ethan, engaged to Emily. He and Emily went to Disneyland a couple years ago, but it was his first time to Florida and the World.
Devin (white sweatshirt on right)-my brother. Another first time flyer, first timer to Florida and Disney. As many times as he joked about things...I think he really enjoyed himself.
Emily (last girl on right in grey)-Carter's fiance and newbie to Disney World. She really enjoyed our resort and just the vacation in general. Not a thrill-ride lover though.

And that's our gang! This family of nine took over Disney World. It was definitely a challenge planning and keeping everyone together, but everything ended up working out great! I still can't believe we all managed to get along and have a good time for that long :rolleyes1

Day one: We have liftoff!!

Let me start off by saying I booked our plane tickets back in March. It honestly ended up being what sealed the deal for the trip. My mom hadn't officially committed to the dates yet, but when I found the super cheap flight prices for the dates I was looking at, she gave me the go ahead :) You wanna know another little secret.....
I lied. :rolleyes1
Yep. I lied about the flight times. It was for a good reason though! You should know that we hate flying out of Detroit because it's about 2 1/2 hours away, so what did I do? Found a super early morning flight out of Detroit. Were there other times available? Suuuuureee....but that would have wasted precious time in Disney. So....I just failed to mention the other times available and booked the early ones. More time in Disney is always a good idea right? Plus it wasn't all bad. We ended up heading down on the 3rd and saying at the Baymont Inn that is literally right across the street from the airport, so it's not like we had to get up super early and drive down.
We took their shuttle in the morning to catch our flight, and were instantly greeted by an insane security line :sad2: Honestly I think we left at 6am, dropped off our luggage, got in line about 6:30am and didn't make it through until almost 8am. The only good thing about it was that we didn't have a long wait at our gate before they started boarding.

Maybe I’m just an easy person to compromise with or maybe I just tolerate more, but I am a Spirit Airlines lover. I know they are one of the worst rated airlines due to all the “hidden” fees and poor customer service, but I love them. We flew Spirit round-trip for this flight from Detroit to Orlando for $139 per person. The only extra charge we had was $60 for one giant checked bag that was shared between two of us. Each of us managed to pack everything else in our free “personal” item (which is actually quite big) and almost all of us sat right next to each other without choosing our seats ahead of time.
Basically the original eight of us that I booked together were seated in the same row and the row behind, but when we added in Emily she was assigned a single seat farther away from us because she was seen as a separate reservation. No big deal, my mom likes to fly alone anyway so she took that seat on the way down.

Our flight down was scheduled to leave at 8:55am but we ended up departing about ten minutes earlier. This was Macy, Devin, and Ethan’s first time flying so we made sure they got the window seats :) I sat next to Austin and Macy which worked out great. My only complaint with the flight down was our L-O-N-G descent. I have a weaker stomach and began to get really nauseous toward the end. Then of course I look over the row and Devin looks as if he’s going to be sick too. I swear it was like that for twenty minutes….it was bad. BUT we landed safe and sound about 11:20am, quickly grabbed our luggage, and boarded the Magical Express by 11:50! We were on our way to Disney World!!! :drive:

Following along! Such a big group of you guys, but honestly, Disney is better with more people (that way people hold your bags if they aren't riding) :rotfl: I don't blame you for the early flight, though. I took one but I couldn't be tired, it's Disney for goodness sake!!

Welcome and thanks for following! It definitely turned out to be a fun trip with everyone. Tricky at times, but fun :) And yes the early flight was not bad at all! We did call it an early night from the park but it was worth it!

What a group you had! I can't wait to follow along!

Thanks! It was really different planning for such a huge group considering my past two visits were just my husband and I :p

following along!

:welcome: and thank you for following!

We didn’t have to wait very long for the Magical Express to take off, and were on the road by 12pm. I actually enjoyed the bus ride, but I do wish they would have played more cartoons/trivia instead of information that you probably should have known before the vacation started (did you know you can reserve your place in line ahead of time with fastpass plus?) :o Anyway, we were on Disney property by about 12:40pm, made stops at Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Jambo House, and then finally arrived at Kidani at 1pm!! :cool1:

By the time we got to the resort we were all starving and looking for food. popcorn:: We went to check in (we opted to skip online check-in) and were told a room wasn’t quite ready yet, so we left our bags and then took a nice walk over to Jambo House to eat at the Mara. Funny thing is about 10 minutes after we left we got the text that the room was ready, but we needed food first :P The walk over was beautiful and just warm enough to take our sweatshirts off, but honestly that was one of the only nice weather times we had. When we got to Jambo we actually got lost for a little bit and finally had to be directed by two different CMs to finally find the Mara :P I really liked the turkey sandwich, my brothers got the pizza flatbread, Austin got a hotdog and the rest got burgers. No complaints on the food there since we were all starving!! After that we wandered around the lobby and store a bit, then decided to check out their animal viewing area. We saw our first giraffe of the trip which my mom was excited about :) After that we decided to make the walk back to our room: 7521

In my search for making this an affordable trip, we opted to rent DVC points from an individual owner on the boards, and I have to say it was worth every penny. Although Kidani is smaller and the lobby doesn’t have as big of “wow” factor as Jambo, we absolutely adored it. We booked a designated 2-bedroom standard view, and even though I found most of our room requests ignored (or maybe just none available), we loved our space. We requested something like a high-floor, partial savannah room on the Pembe side near the Rafiki elevator and ended up on the fifth floor right next to the Timon elevator close to transportation and a parking lot view. However! We did not go into this vacation expecting a savannah room, and honestly we were high enough up to have a pretty view of the grassy landscape which we all loved waking up to  We didn’t stay in the room too long though, because in a spur of the moment decision the day before, we had all decided to go to Hollywood Studios and see the Osborne lights since they had been extended! So, we checked into our room at 2:30pm, had bell services bring up our luggage (and groceries from Garden Grocer) then left for the park about 3:30pm! I’ll review Kidani in more detail a little later on, so for now you can enjoy some room pics :)

Well it's late, I'm wide awake, and Austin is at work, so I figured I would add more to the trip report :rolleyes2

So there were a lot of interesting things that happened last minute that made us go to Hollywood Studios.
First, when we originally bought our tickets my mom strictly said "I don't think we are going to want to go to a park on arrival day. We will just relax after traveling and explore the resort."
Second, because of what she said, I planned a nice date night out for Austin and I at Epcot. Since I had never been, I wanted to explore world showcase, snack/drink around the world and see Illuminations. :flower3:
Third, after I had planned out the week, my mom and Tony were talking Saturday (the 2nd) about how it would be fun to go to a park on arrival day because "what else are they going to do? They have the whole afternoon." :confused3 I politely reminded them that they didn't book enough day tickets, but if they wanted to skip a different day or add a day they could.
Fourth (and most important), on Sunday (day before we left) Disney decided to do something magical and extended the Osborne Lights until Wednesday!! pixiedust: These had been on my bucket list to see since last year, and when I thought we were going to miss them by a day I was devastated. At first I didn't believe it (all those darn Facebook rumors) but when it was confirmed, I pretty much jumped up and screamed to everybody "WE ALL NEED TO GO TO HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS AND SEE THE LIGHTS!" (not even exaggerating) :hyper: Once everyone was convinced, I hoped on and changed mine and Austin's fastpasses from Epcot to the Studios and we were set! I was a little bummed about missing date night, but there was no way I was missing the lights!

So, there we all were on the bus to Hollywood Studios at 3:30pm on arrival day, right after checking into our room! :cheer2: I want to say we waited between 5-10 minutes for a bus and had no other stops, so that was really nice. The ride didn't take long either, and we were through the gates fast enough! Surprisingly you'll find that I didn't take a whole lot of pictures of the actual parks....guess I was too busy taking in the sights. :magnify: I would like to say this was sort of like my first time at the studios because last year we only went to Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster and Fantasmic, so I really had no idea of the layout of the park or anything beyond the Great Movie Ride. Speaking of which...

That was our first ride! Since the boys weren't interested in the Little Mermaid show and we had just missed Indiana Jones, we all decided to wait in the standby line for GMR. Posted wait time was 40 minutes, and maybe it turned out to be that long but it sure didn't feel like it. I liked looking at the props and watching the movie, it made the time go by much faster. I also think it was a good starter ride for everyone to see what type of rides were at Disney and the work they put into them. I actually really enjoyed the ride! I had no idea what to expect but it was really cool. Our guide was great as well! I just think it was a good kick-off to the park. :thumbsup2 Once we were off, we wandered back to the Streets of America to look around.

Austin and I then head over to use our fastpasses for Toy Story. When we got there however, we were greeted by a GIANT line of people in the fastpass lane. Apparently the ride had broken down a while back and had just opened up again. :worried: The standby wait was at 160 minutes, and the fastpass line was down and around way past where the "toy story" area ends. Once we realized that, we opted to skip it and save it for our second day. We met up with the group again over by the Mike and Sulley meet and greet (which Macy had just missed :() and wandered around the shop for a few minutes before heading back and around to the Muppet area. It was there out of the corner of my eye that I saw Phineus and Ferb. Second magical moment for the studios! pixiedust: I could have sworn they stopped meeting Sunday as well, and Macy was really heartbroken when she found out she wasn't going to be able to meet them, so when I saw them, I pretty much screamed her name and dragged her into my line of vision  Needless to say she got really excited and hopped right in line, not even caring how long it was. While we waited, Carter and Emily took off to wander and said they would meet back up with us at light time. I can't remember exactly how long the meet and greet took, but I believe we hopped in line around 5:30pm and had just made it back up and around to the Streets of America when they turned the lights on at 6pm. Macy got her first dusting of pixie dust then, and I got mine shortly after ^_^ I'll cover the lights in the next post, because they deserve lots of picture space.

Our trip coincided with yours! (Kidani 1/4-1/9). Looking forward to following along!

Wow small world! Wonder if we ever ran into each other 0_o Thanks for reading and following! Have you stayed at Kidani before or was this your first time as well?

First time at Kidani! I had stayed a Jambo House a while back when I was in the CP. We loved Kidani! My only issue is how dark it is. We have stayed many places but mostly stay at Saratoga Springs these days (our DVC home resort) which is so nice and bright in the mornings! Hard to roll out of bed for rope drop at Kidani :) Overall we loved it though - the theming is hard to beat!

I agree! We loved the theme and the overall feel of the resort. I did notice it being dark in some of the hallways but didn't find our room to be that bad. Of course we slept in the living room and made sure to crack the curtains to let the light in so we could make rope drop :P It would be nice to stay at Jambo to compare the two, but I've already been told I set the standards high with Kidani XD

Looking back on this vacation I have to say I think the lights were my favorite. Maybe it had to do with the built-up excitement and luck we had, but I seriously loved them and could have stayed all night. We had our first glimpse of the lights during our last trip (and by glimpse I mean the very tip of the tree behind all the buildings while we were standing by GMR) and I remember being bummed we weren't able to see them. So when we started planning this trip, I knew they were going on my list of must-dos. Then of course we couldn't go until January, which I then found out we were arriving the day after they originally planned to stop and I literally almost cried. So you can just imagine how I felt turning that corner onto the Streets of America and seeing them for the first (and last) time. :cloud9:

I guess I really don't have a whole lot to say detail-wise about the lights, but I certainly have a list of adjectives: breathtaking, magical, beautiful, amazing, festive, stunning, exciting, etc. etc. etc. I really hope they find a new place for the lights because I feel like everyone who loves Christmas and lights need to see them. I think we stayed to watch them for almost a full hour. We wandered slowly up and down the streets, listened to a few of the songs and watched the lights dance, and got our pictures taken in front of the giant tree. I think the only reason we left was because Austin and I had a fastpass to make and the others were getting tired after such a long day. I got a really nice video and a lot of pictures though! :sunny:

After the lights we made our way to the complete opposite end of the park to use our fastpass for Tower of Terror. Since my family technically hadn't bought the extra day ticket yet I wasn't able to get them fastpasses but that was fine. They shopped around the relaxed while we spent a whole 10 minutes getting through the line and riding. I seriously love that ride, it's in my top three favorites (although I still can't order them) :dog2: We were going to try and get seats for Fantasmic as well but on our way over we heard them announce it was standing room only, so we decided to skip it that night. Basically once our ride was over that concluded our first night! By that point we were all exhausted, and I was making everyone get up early the next morning so we decided to call it an early night and left about 7:30pm. On the way out we stopped at Guest Services to add on an extra day to everyone's ticket, and then headed for our room. The boys ordered pizza for dinner and I think we were all asleep by 10pm. :faint: But it's okay! Because a full day at Magic Kingdom was waiting for us tomorrow.

Day Two: Magic Kingdom Madness

As the name suggests, today was our first full park day at the Magic Kingdom, and boy was it crazy. I had told my mom ahead of time that today was the only day I was 100% requiring everyone to get up early and be at the parks from open to close, and, well....some of them came through on it :bored: I guess all the important people went through with it. Austin and I had already planned on doing all the parks open to close every day, and I was really just hoping to get Macy and Devin up early to get the most out of the parks, so at least that happened. :thumbsup2
Magic Kingdom opened at 9am that day, so I was hoping to be there by 8:30am. Austin and I got up at 7am and were thankfully greeted by my mom and Macy. I had heard the alarm in the boys’ room go off so I assumed they were up, however when I went to check on Devin around 7:30am I found him still lying in bed :sad2: Then mom told us to go ahead early and she would meet us there, so at that point it was just going to be Austin, Macy and I. We finished getting ready just as Devin came out all dressed, but he said he was going to wait for mom as well.
So, at 7:45am the three of us started to head down to the bus. We had just missed the last bus to MK, so we took a spot on the bench for the 10 minute wait for the next one. As we were sitting, we spotted Devin running down the ramp toward the station, he had decided to join us (awwww) :lovestruc I then had this awesome idea that we should take the bus to Epcot (which was arriving in just a minute) then monorail over to TTC and MK. I had previously posted on the boards that I was really upset I would miss that first glance of the castle out the monorail window (since that was how I had seen it first my past two trips and it had just become a magical moment for me), so we decided to take the scenic route. :flower3:

9be407d6-79fb-4bdc-bb51-60234e297127.jpg

We hopped on the bus to Epcot and made it over fairly quickly, however I didn’t realize you had to go through bag security to get on the other monorail so that set us back a few minutes. Once we were through however, we did not have to wait for that monorail or the one at TTC to get us over to MK. Of course I made this huge deal about how cool it was that the monorail went through the Contemporary and I didn’t realize we wouldn’t even be going through it on our way over, but it was still fun :yo-yo: Thankfully the bag check line wasn’t long at all and we made it through the turnstiles just as the Welcome Show started! We were literally still in the turnstile aisle since the crowds had filled the main gathering area, but we had a great view of the show and weren’t rope dropping any big rides so it was perfect :-) Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures because I was busy trying to fix Macy’s magic band issue. Either she forgot which finger she used the day before or the system was glitching because it kept turning blue for her. Thankfully the CMs got it fixed pretty quickly so we were able to enjoy the show! It was my first time seeing it as well and I thought it was a cute way to kick off the day. After that they dropped the rope and people mobbed the park. I’ll start getting into the “madness” section of this day in my next post since this ended up being a lot longer than I intended

Since we weren't entirely sure what the rest of the family was doing and when they would join us, we decided to take our time getting into the park. We wandered up Main Street taking in the sights, and stopped to grab Macy a First Visit pin from one of the cast members on the sidewalk (Devin didn't want one because he's lame) :snooty: Then we tried to take some pictures in front of the castle, but man the sun was bright! I also think Devin was still half asleep, so I only really got a nice one of Macy and I.

From there we probably should have went toward Tomorrowland first, but we were hoping to wait for everyone else before doing the rides over there, so instead we head for Haunted Mansion. You should all know that Devin and Macy had never been to a theme park, let alone ridden a roller coaster before, so I planned the days/fastpasses around their comfort level so they could work their way up to the big rides. :hyper: I figured Haunted Mansion was a safe bet, and our first fastpass was for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at 9:30am so we had some time to kill. Haunted Mansion is another one of those rides up there in my top three, the theme is just amazing. We got in line right about 9 with a 5min wait time, and it wasn't until we entered the stretching room that I remembered Macy scares easily :scared: She had nightmares after watching Once Upon A Time with me a year or so ago, so I made sure to talk to her and try to make it a little more light-hearted. She was fine though, and actually ended up pointing out some of the creepy things on the ride to me. Devin thought it was pretty cool too, they had survived their first ride!

After that my mom text me to let us know they were waiting for the bus, so we decided to scope out another ride with a short wait. This ended up being It's A Small World. A classic ride and a must-do for Austin. We walked right on at 9:20 so that was nice. Devin had fun trying to scope out a place in the water to throw his penny :upsidedow while Macy was in awe recording the entire thing. After that we wandered around Fantasyland waiting for the group. I had told us to meet them at 7DMT, and when we rounded the corner I was SO grateful for our fastpasses. If I remember right, the posted time was around 90 minutes, the line wrapped alllll the way down the outside gate and wrapped around almost to the entrance of the circus area. This was at 9:30am mind you  When we finally met up with the rest of the family I made sure to point out the line and say "see, this is why we needed to reserve rides in advance." (They had made fun of my obsessive planning skills and didn't understand the need for fastpasses) We hopped in line around 9:45 with our passes and only had to wait about 5min for our car. This seemed like a pretty big hit with the family, Macy even asked to go again (thank god I had grabbed another pass for our second day).

MK_MINETRAIN_7570761033%20400x267.jpg

After that we wanted to try Space Mountain, but the wait time was already up to 70min! We decided to skip it and try to hit it later in the day or try for a fourth fastpass. Instead, we went over to Buzz Lightyear, which had about a 20min wait at 10:10am when we hopped in line. So far the "lowest crowds of the year" weren't doing me well. Thankfully my family didn't seem to mind. I rode with Austin this time and we took the front car, but just as we were entering the first room the ride stopped! I turned around to look at my family and we all just kinda laughed. That wasn't suppose to happen! Thankfully with us being in the front car, Austin just sat in one spot and racked up points :rotfl: Thankfully we didn't have to evacuate or anything, and we finally started moving after about 5min (although it felt much longer). I'm actually really bad at this game, but managed to make Planetary Pilot! Almost everyone else got Space Ace :P

Once we got off Buzz it was about 10:45 and Space still had a long wait so we just decided to wander around and do some shopping before we left for lunch at Whispering Canyon. We caught the end of one of the castle shows out front and then popped into the Emporium to look around. We didn't stay too long though because everyone was very eager to eat and we wanted to see if we could get into our reservation a bit early. So we said goodbye to the Magic Kingdom for now and left for the boat to take us to Wilderness Lodge!
