My thoughts about plans for DVC at the Poly

  1. Please dont!! This will ruin the relaxing atmosphere.

  2. One building perhaps, current plans are too much.

  3. I love all the plans as they are!!!

  4. Not sure how I feel

If the new rumors are true, I'm generally happy they've decided not to overdo it on their DVC plans (although simply converting the Tahiti longhouse to DVC seems underwhelming) but am bummed that they're planning to remove the water feature in the GCH.:sad2:

I just don't see why every single deluxe resort has to add DVC? I don't have anything against DVC resorts, and I know Disney wants to make money, but it would be nice if one deluxe resort could have been spared the DVC influence. That way people have a choice, and if you don't like DVC you can choose not to stay in a resort that offers it. But now that's gone.

What exactly do you consider "DVC influence?" Also, Yacht Club doesn't have a DVC component.

I would say go for a Poly DVC but make it more in-line with the size of VGF, VWL or BCV. All smaller buildings/wings of the existing resort. DON'T just convert existing rooms instead take down a building and rebuild so the villas are true villas not retro fitted rooms. Please don't get me wrong I love the Poly rooms and have enjoyed staying there several times but I don't see how you can make those rooms into villas without sacrificing the villa concept.

I think the key is to not overwhelm the resort with DVC just make it a small piece of the resort. DH and I were married there and would love to own DVC there but I would not purchase interest in a modified resort room.

I also have zero interest in bungalows off the beach. I think the point cost would be very high, I think the boat traffic would be an issue and the water isn't the clear blue that would allow you to enjoy them.

I don't mean it in a negative way, and yes I know YC doesn't have DVC but it is connected to BC and they share several amenities.

Ok so now I am hearing the volcano will be gone from the pool. At this point I would just ask for a confirmed time line of the construction so that we as consumers can make an informed decision about our resort choice.

I'm not crazy about DVC being built at the Poly. But as long as the project leaves Hawaii Club Level Building alone......... I guess I'll be OK. Then again, we could always become DVC members....... Humm........

Yes, especially how fast the CR seems to be booking up for next spring (there are a lot of dates in 2014 where a good majority of rooms in the CR are already booked).

Really surprised they're considering crippling the Poly during the same time the new Fantasyland is being finished AND just after they've refurbed all the rooms - would have made more sense to me to refurb the rooms after they finished all of the rest of the construction.

But maybe they're thinking that the completion of the Fantasyland expansion is precisely the perfect time to do all of this because it's the one time people might still pay the big bucks to stay at the resort when it is crippled. If so, the evil minds of Disney marketing:stir: are more diabolical than I previously appreciated (especially if their plans include waiting until late fall to make any sort of announcement so that people who really want to stay at a Monorail resort in 2014 are stuck having to settle for a crippled Poly because everything else is already booked:().

Two words: draw bridge. A very small draw bridge that would only have to open twice an evening. Not a big deal if they wanted to do it.

Poly is our favorite resort and i'm having mixed feelings on this. The idea of DVC at Poly doesn't bother me a whole lot, but the idea of having 5-story buildings on property does. It would totally ruin the charm of Poly and IMO stick out like a sore thumb. I agree, the Poly needs to be updated - especially the GCH. It has a lot of character and can be updated without ruining the atmosphere. I love the Volcano pool but the idea of a bigger and better pool also appeals to me.

As for the monorail, I guess I've been lucky because I haven't had to deal with a lot of monorail overcrowding but then again, I go at times that it's typically not as busy even if it means taking my kids out of school. And the biggest reason we go when there are less crowds is because my health issues. I need to go when it's most convenient for me. I wonder how many people get on the resort monorails just to ride around the resorts or because they don't want to take the express one from MK to TTC. The only time I've really dealt with monorail overcrowding is leaving a park when it's closing.

If they can't do it big they shouldn't do it at all. Doing a small build-out will make prices unwieldy for all but the most affluent and essentially force other DVC members to go to war with one another at the 7 month mark to get a room there because you can no longer use points to book a "regular" room. At the same time, they shouldn't be making 5-6 story buildings. It all needs to stay within the general atmosphere of poly

My wife and I would LOVE to buy at Poly but I'm not going to spend $160/pt to make it happen. I'll rent and get a normal room before I do that (which I'll also be able to book whenever I please without competing for 60 studios).

that has been mentioned many times - not sure why - but Disney has yet to do one there.

it would have to below the monorail - so that might be a concern????

the new plans only call for Tahiti going DVC.
and the building will look the same (I think)

    no new pool or gym.
