I don’t *like* food; I Love it – A Solo August 2015 Dining Report - 10/20 COMPLETE

Biergarten
Order: Lunch Buffet

There were three people at my table already and within about two minutes the rest of my table was full. Mind you there were only about 4 tables full of people in the entire restaurant. The first family there didn’t feel like chatting but gradually opened up over the course of the meal and the other end of the table and I chatted away like old friends (one gentleman was also a Diser so if you’re reading hello!).
Hi! I thought the picture looked familiar when I started following your report. It was a pleasure dining with you. I'm really enjoying your report so far!

We are having lunch at the Biergarten in a few weeks. I haven't been in 20 or so years and dh has never been. We have eaten in a real Biergarten in Germany last April, though.....and honestly, it's the entertainment that prompted us to grab this ADR. I'm glad it was a good meal.....I will stay away from the meatloaf ;)

This cupcake is amazing.
Ohhh, that white note fondant thingie on the top must be new this year! When I had the King Cupcake last fall (and the year before, SIGH), it didn't have that little ornament. I'll have to check it out again just to see the bling! Thanks for an incredible dining report :-)

After letting plate one digest I went up for dessert (and another pretzel roll)
I enjoy Biergarten and eat solo there often. I agree that the desserts aren't that special so I'm usually just a bit piggie and fill up plate two with more mains from the buffet. I like the potato salads (both warm and cold). Its hard to find weisswurst here so that is always a must have - along with some grainy mustard.

:wave2:

It was great meeting you too - it turns out if you actually speak to people in the parks a lot of them are Disers in disguise!

I'm sure you'll have a great time. Re the meatloaf - it's not that it's horrible per ser its just that it is not like your traditional meatloaf you'd get in the states. It's really just the German version of SPAM.
o_O

Any excuse to try it again right? I like your thinking :thumbsup2

I'm sad. Your pictures of Biegarten are not showing for me. :-(

I've been having the same problem the last few days. Sometimes I can't see any pictures and then an hour later they're all visible again! Not sure what is going on :confused3

I've heard it is a problem that is being worked on.

We love Biergarten and the variety, there are something's on the menu that I don't like, but overall it's been a solid choice over the years. That was nice of them to offer to comp your beer, that's great customer service :)

It was definitely some of the best service of the trip.

Following along! I love the review rating system. Genius!

Thank you and :welcome:

L’Artisan de Glace
Order: 1 Scoop in a Cup- Caramel Fleur de Sel Ice Cream

Optimized-DSCF1351.JPG

After exploring a little more of Germany and making my way through Italy and America I stopped in Japan to do a little shopping. After shouting Sun, Ni, Ichi I had a pearl to take home with me and a cool little souvenir. I stopped in to say hello to one of my favourite royal couples in Morocco and then made my way into France.

Now I had spent almost 6 weeks travelling around France last year so it was like coming home for me. I adore France and in particular, I adore its food. So of course I had to stop for an afternoon snack.

After the disappointing desserts in Germany I was still in the mood for something sweet. It was a toss-up between Les Halles Boulangerie and L’Artisan de Glace. The peak afternoon heat made L’Artisan the obvious choice.

There were two families in line in front of me so the wait was pretty short. I couldn’t pass up one of my favourite flavours so salted caramel ice-cream it was ($4.22+ tax for one scoop in a waffle cone or cup).

I thought it was pretty interesting that the CM on the counter warned me about the taste beforehand. She made a point to note that it was a bitter caramel so clearly they have issues with people expecting a sweet caramel and then not enjoying it.

After ordering you move along the line where another CM makes your order. I thought the display with its temporary Mickey was super adorable!

Now on to the ice cream itself. This was a proper French fleur de sel caramel ice-cream where the caramel had been taken quite far along (i.e. bitter and dark). I really enjoyed it but can see why others might be a bit disappointed when they tried it. The texture was really smooth and creamy which is what you want a good ice-cream to be.

I would definitely go back but would probably try another flavour next time as there were so many nice sounding ones on the menu (including Cinnamon, Caramelized Apple & Crumble Crunch and Lemon with Crispy Meringue)

My husband tried that flavor in May and it was interesting. He didn't dislike it. They have very interesting flavor choices there.

I was excited reading the beginning of this trip report and then my finger slipped and I lost the tab. It took me forever to find it again! I am loving it. I am a Disney lover, food lover, and I'm headed to WDW/Universal in 81 days. Thanks to this report Florien's is at the top of my list.

(PS, your font color is kind of hard for my eyes to read, but it's worth it.)

I am so intrigued to hear that you enjoyed the caramel! Good for you. I ordered it in March. I was grossed out and the CM noticed and promptly offered me a different flavor telling me that he didn't like it either, haha! Interesting to know that it's supposed to taste that way.

It's definitely a divisive flavour. And because it's not super sweet it actually lasts a bit longer (well as long as any ice cream can last in summer in Florida!)

:welcome: And thank you for the note on the font -I'm always happy for feedback. I've changed it to a darker colour (like my standard TR) so let me know if that makes a difference!

With the CM's warning I definitely gathered it was a regular occurrence with people not liking it. I can't say that all French caramel ice creams should taste like that but they definitely prefer things on the not so sweet side.

And as a random note, ,if you're ever in Paris you have to go to Berthillon who makes some of the best French ice cream in the world!
