How does price adjusting work if the prices drop on your sailing?

I know I have seen posts saying that people were able to adjust their price because the prices dropped before their actual sailing date. I booked through Disney so I have no TA to negotiate for me. We booked a 7A GTY cabin and there are currently VGT cabins selling for less on our particular cruise. Should Disney adjust for me? Does it depend on the CM that you talk to? Does it have to be a 7A GTY ONLY for me to price adjust? Do they just waive the cancellation penalty because ours is currently $899 per room and we have 2 rooms, so it's not even worth checking if I would have to pay cancellation fees also!!

Last minute *GT rates are only available on new bookings. You cannot transfer an already existing reservation to one. You would need to cancel the existing reservation (with any penalties) and rebook.

So, when I read that people have price adjusted reservations-is it in their specific category like 4A for 4A? If that makes and sense at all....I am just trying to figure out if it is even worth it for me to keep checking prices until our sail date or not :confused3

We have two 7A GTY cabins booked. Would Disney have to offer a lower price on 7A GTY cabins specifically or just 7A cabins in general? My cabin numbers have been assigned. Does it matter at all what category we were assigned to or just the category that I actually booked and paid for originally? I really doubt they will offer either but I could keep checking!

Are you past your PIF date? If so, you can probably stop watching as any price changes will result in penalty.

I honestly don't recall a lot of threads about adjusting prices...but basically, as long as you are before your PIF date, you can change the reservation for any number of reasons. If the price decreases in your number or number/letter category, then you can call to request the lower fare. It will not be automatically changed for you. If you decide to change categories because you think it's a better deal then you may do so.

There may be some specials like FL RES or MIL that do allow a change to the original reservation. There may or may not be a penalty involved depending on the timing, but many have found these discounts are better even with the penalty. However, as noted above, and *GT fares are for new bookings only and you would have to cancel the current reservation and likely involve a penalty depending on timing.

Any changes in port taxes or fees WILL be automatically reimbursed to whatever payment method you used last (credit card, gift card, etc.). You do NOT have to request this reimbursement.

There are small price changes, but these are due to port charges that change. If that's the case, DCL will simply refund your method of payment.

Special rates typically come out after your PIF. However, these are for new bookings only and require full payment in advance. Since you are within your PIF, you are subject to cancellation penalties.

Sometimes, the cancellation penalties are much less than the special rates and it does make sense to cancel and rebook. DCL will apply your payments to your new booking (you don't have to wait for them to credit you and pay again).

For example, if you had booked a cat 4 room with 2A and 3C, and a KSF offer comes out, you will a bit.

The only time we had a credit for a price adjustment was when we booked a cruise on the Fantasy. We booked on opening day (October 2010) for the first eastern cruise (April 2012). Sometime in 2011 DCL reclassified some cabins on the Dream class ships based on passenger feedback. The cabin we had booked was one that was reclassified from a 9A to a 9D and Disney credited us the price difference.

If you are past your PIF date, do yourself a favor and stop looking. If you are before your pif date you can look. They do on occasion lower the prices of some categories. If that is the case, and you see your category cheaper, or another category that you want cheaper, then you would contact your TA if you have one, of just call DCL and they will adjust it for you. This does happen, but not often.

Does anyone know what the cancellation cost would be if you wanted to cancel an existing reservation past the PIF date and re-book at the lower rate? Just curious.

If the new rate is just a lower, regular rate (and not any type of special or promotion) on the same room you currently have booked, call & ask them to refund you the difference, even if it is after the PIF date. This worked for me when the price of my Cat T dropped 45 days before we sailed. They just refunded my credit card, no canceling/rebooking needed.

It doesn't matter when the price for your cruise decreases, as long as it isn't due to a code or discounted fare. If the regularly listed price for your cruise drops prior to the three day mark when it goes off the website, you just call DCL and they will adjust it for you and refund the difference to you.

    THIS! ^^^^^ :thumbsup2

Say a VGT comes out for my cruise that was an OBB with a 10% deposit of say $170.

The VGT comes out 50 days prior so the penalty is loss of deposit. Would it be $170 or would it be what the 20% deposit should have been ($340).

The penalty would be the 20% deposit amount.
