Just one of the many deciding factors in our resort search. We want to book a standard room at the Poly, but wonder if it's possible to get a balcony room? We don't really want a patio room, but a balcony. Is this a hard to get request? Thanks!

We have always requested "third floor" and we have been lucky enough to have gotten "third floor" a/k/a balcony. This has been for several stays, most recently returned last weekend. Some buildings have balconies on both second and third floors. That will help with the odds as well. I have had the experience that CM's try to grant at least your first request. HTH.:goodvibes

I've stayed at the Poly many times and this has never been a problem. With that said, if you are looking for a balcony with a Magic Kingdom view you are limiting the number of balconies available and that might present an issue depending on the time of year.

Thanks for the replies guys...I just made the switch and she was able to put that in as a request - she even told me that it should be very possible! :D yay - if we don't it will be fine, but I sure would love one!

Try wording your request "balcony room, upper floor". That should tell them exactly what is important for you.

I stayed at the Poly in 2009, garden view, balcony (or patio) was my only request - they weren't able to give it to me unless I wanted to move a day or so later. I've not been back, instead choosing resorts where all the rooms have balconies because some people don't care so much, I do. A little less than a third of the rooms don't have balconies (maybe 20%?) another third have patios, so those are your odds.

We requested either balcony or patio at the Poly for our October trip. We got 2nd floor Samoa. It was really nice being that close to GCH (Capt. Cooks was literally steps away which was nice because we had the mugs from the DP), but we really wish we would have either a balcony or patio so there would have been somewhere for DW and I to sit once the kids were in bed. Even so, we loved the Poly and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

If a balcony is very important to you, you may want to select a different resort. We won't stay at the Poly again because when we checked in they only had one of the 2nd floor non-balcony & non-patio rooms available. To make matters worse, our "view" was of the roof of a shack. Needless to say, we were very disappointed that we paid almost $300/night for such a terrible room & view.

Most of our Poly stays have been in December and January, so I'm wondering whether the difficulty getting a balcony has anything to do with how busy the resort is at the time. I'm a little concerned about the last few posts - do you mind sharing what time of year/season you stayed at Poly? Hoping for a balcony this coming January again!

Hmmmm. now I'm a little more worried..BUT will just hope to be sprinkled with Pixie Dust!! lol
We are usually at the WL, but now that our little stinker is over 3 we have a harder time. This past Sept we rented points at the VWL and LOVED it, but for Dec there was nothing to be had.
Then we were going to do POR, but I was so worried about the size of the rooms, so we switched to the Cabins. Finally my DH got a bonus at work and the lure of the Poly was too much for us.... The balcony thing is really the only possible negative for us (My DH is a coffee drinker in the am and LOVES to sit on the balcony, so we'll see) Crossing our fingers....

Request Tokelau, Tahiti, or Rapa Nui buildings. They have balconies/patios on all floors. Tokelau is my top recommendation. Other than that, request 3rd floor in other buildings. Not hard to get, we've never had anything else but we always remember to make the request.

We requested Tokelau, since the second floor has balconies. Our request was granted. Good luck! :)

Hi, we just returned from our 1st stay at Poly and though we have stayed at other places and requested rooms for some dumb reason i didnt request were I wanted this time and it was a mistake. We got a 2nd floor in an older building. It had that stand only balcony. My grandson kept trying to stick his foot out the the railing and at one point got it stuck in the track of the door. I freaked out so I went to the front desk and asked to be moved and they were very happy to do so. Also it was the building next to the ceramonial house and facing the marina and it was sooo loud! People coming and going. They moved us to buiding on the other side of the main building and it was a nicer room quiet and a huge balcony ! So just ask and you shall recieve!

Our stay was mid to late January at Poly, and I got all requests, Tokelau, upper floor, beach end of longhouse :thumbsup2. It was value season, so resort wasn't at 100% capacity. If you haven't already. Go on Tikiman web site, he has lots of great Poly info.
I requested Tokelau because its one of the newer long houses, all floors have balconies, and central location.
