LAUREN! LAUREN!!
LAUREN!
Ahahaha. Sorry.
The gym shoes at work crackdown happened for us about a month ago. I didn't wear mine very often but I did on casual fridays because I have gray sketchers that aren't very sneakery. But my boss laid down the law. I'm glad we were ok wearing them back when I commuted by train as I'd often "forget" to take them off and put on my heels/dress shoes. Now I'm in squishy bottomed flats that are seriously not cute...but comfy. I suggest going on a squishy bottom hunt (ok, that sounds weird) instead of flat shoes...cause I know the pain of dang flat shoes. I'm a target shopper and their shoes are the worst for cushion.
I don't think I would have done very well with 10k on a humid day like that. I barely survived a 5k in those conditions. So big ups to you. Although the heat rash and chafing sound kind of not great.
I understand the internal struggle race morning of trying not to push too hard & also wanting to beat a certain time. It's rough to treat each race separately when you know what you have been capable of in the past, etc.
Oh and I will sneak peaks now and again on blind miles during races just to make sure I'm not waaaaaaay off pace. I can't help myself. But I try (not always succeed, but try) not to make it freak me out.
the guy who was screaming...UGH. I actually liked when I heard that an official triathlon rule is if you have unsportsmanlike conduct before, during, or after a race...they pull your bib and you are automatically DQ'd or DNF'd. I support that. No adult needs to be yelled at. No reason you can't just nicely say "excuse me but there is only one line." And then stew about it internally but not create a toxic situation.
I do really like your idea about doing a playlist with increasing intensity of music. I may try that for a training run to see if I like it.
And one last thought.....the Olympics are are making me sooooooooo tired. But come next year I'll be missing their existence. though I did miss the beam final due to Bachelor in Paradice viewing last night, so I'm officially a bad American.

and was my first ever 10k. I've been officially running for 3 weeks, so I wasn't quite ready, but ended up with 1:12:32. I've submitted for my POT for Princess, but am hoping to drop it a bit in my second 10k in September (and hopefully more manageable temps - it was so hard to breathe in that heavy air!) Well done on your 10k time - the heat and humidity definitely has an major affect on output + still dealing with injury and sickness. Nothing to hang your head about at all!!!

If someone says something to me, first of all, I'll be like, "...surely you must have more important things to worry about than my shoes?!" And then I'll get a note from Dr. Spine or something. I AM working my way up to wearing my boots to work every day again, and I do have spare shoes in my desk in case I need a fancier pair for a meeting or something...but I'm not about to make myself wear my uncomfortable flat shoes again and suffer all day like I did last week (okay, "suffer" is a strong work, but it sucked).
I was really only thinking about the beginning of the song, so then the pace of the music got so much more relaxing toward the end of the race and I was just like
I love that music loop but the slower portions didn't exactly encourage me to pick up the pace during the last mile! I'll need to pick a better song for next time.
In particular the thought of eating avocado and hard-boiled eggs again really is not appealing at all. I can't definitively say that those are what made me sick, but I haven't wanted to eat either one since! Blech.
I forgot how frustrating it is to watch things in prime time. Like - here's the first two rotations of gymnastics. Now here's 2 hours of swimming (OMG. SOOOO much swimming. I know Michael Phelps is the GOAT, but COME ON). Now here's the last 2 rotations of gymnastics...AT MIDNIGHT. Not cool NBC, not cool. Also, 4 years later, the diving commentators still get on my nerves.
It's still more than I wanted to pay, but our 50,000 bonus points from opening a Southwest credit card showed up in my account, so I went ahead and booked the flight on points. I'm still planning on checking the flight daily to see if the price drops, but at least this way he has a seat.

And they make driving interesting around here, because they are fearless - cars do not scare them.
New flight leaves at 5PM and gets home more like 10. While I am sad to lose 2 hours of Disney time, I think I’ll hate myself less the next day at work if I get home a little earlier. Is this me adulting?!
I happened to wake up 6-7 minutes after it went off on my own...whew!

See, I don't just enable fellow shoppers with ideas for running clothes and purses - now I've moved on to Legos! I am here to help!
He's a little mischief-marker, but he sure is cute!
