I already have reservations for BLT in December, but I decided to look into free dining and noticed that I could get a fabulous deal staying at ASsports with free dining. Now, I know it's a bit of a downgrade, but I recently stayed at AsSports for a baseball tourney and thought it was quite acceptable.

Am I crazy to cancel my BLT? I'm thinking I could save my points for a future trip. I was not planning on doing the dining plan b/c since my kids are 10 and 13, I would have to pay $160 per day for just quick service(not worth the price and hassle for us). If I stay at AsSports, I get the dining for free with only paying for rack rate rooms which is about $200/night. In a way, the room would only be costing me $40/nt if I consider the dining plan. Hard to pass up a deal like that!

The other thing is we have AP's, so we don't need the park tickets, but if I bought the minimum 2 day tickets, would I be able to save those and apply them to an AP renewal? Or does it expire? Or can I give them to a relative if they've never been used? Or save them for later, if I decide not to renew our passes?

I'm not considering staying at a Deluxe b/c it would be about the same price/value if I just add the dining plan to my existing BLT reservation, which I wasn't planning on doing.

    Thanks!

I understand your issue but really.....for me.... bLT at the holidays is a great trip. I'd keep BLT and just pay oop for dining. Enjoy all of the beautiful decorations and fun activities near BLT.

(Sorry to all the DVC-ers who want to kill me for this advice so they can pick up your cancellation! Ha!)

Where do your kids want to stay? If they were looking forward to BLT, then it might be best to keep things the way you have it.

However, free QS dining at AsSports for $200/nt for 3 people sounds like a pretty good deal. Just try to use it at a bunch of different restaurants to avoid getting food boredom from setting in. I recommend Wolfgang Puck Express, Earl of Sandwich (both DTD) and the Pepper Market (CSR).

I'm not sure about the value of 2-day pass and applying it towards an AP renewal. Maybe another poster has the answer.

I'm sure your kids will enjoy trying different snacks around the world. We became regulars at Goofy's (DTD) and the Candy Cauldron (DHS).

    My two cents, Steve :cool1:

There is absolutely no way in the world I would consider cancelling BLT for ASSp, especially with just QS dining.

I did something similar. Cancelled BWV for CSR business class free dining. And booked BWV for our may trip. I have 4 disney adults. I say go for it. More trips is always better in my book.

I would stay with BLT. The dining plan is good but understand that at the value resorts it is a counter service plan. Also ASSp food court is be refurbished, not sure when in Dec it will open.

Missed answering the rest of your questions. In previous years, I have gotten free dining with a 2 day pass, while having an active AP. So I ask them to remove the tickets from my KTTW and issue separate paper tickets, which I save and use for the next time I purchase an AP, make sure you don't use a day at all. I'm not sure how it will work with the Magic Bands, which I guess I will just find out when the time comes. Some advice when doing this, the Downtown Disney CMs are the best when it comes to handling this. Because the hotel usually will not do it and the CMs at the parks (Epcot Guest Relations & MK Guest Relations) usually take a little longer as I think they don't do as many of these.

As for my kids, they actually don't care where we stay as long as it's on property and at Disney. They also would rather have more trips than just a nice hotel. We loved BLT, but I've given them the choice before, they would rather do two trips versus staying at BLT one time.

Thank you all for your advice. I'm still kicking things around. I do have a fear that with all the changes going on with the magic bands and rfid tickets, my 2 day tickets would get inadvertently activated. That would not be a good deal.:headache:

leaning towards the original plan. Nice to be on the monorail and visit all the hotels decked out in christmas decorations. Smelling the gingerbread houses... ahhhh the memories.

as a DVCer's you will be back to WDW alot - so just might go with ASSpo - so you will see that the ddp is not a great deal.

the towl were better - but they kept raising the price on it. that say if you go alot and do eat out - then might go with towl

I had a free dining pin for our upcoming Christmas week trip and I had originally booked at POP(we have only stayed there)and I went back and forth switching my resorts 8 times, the last resort being BLT w/free dining......Well, the price of staying there just didn't sit right with me because we are only at the hotel to sleep and shower..Even though I could walk to my favorite park staying at BLT and ride the monorail it just still was not worth it to me...I downgraded to POFQ without free dining but the money I am saving I can use for another upcoming trip!!

This. Especially when the buses will most likely be packed leaving the values, whereas you can just mosey on over to MK or grab a monorail to Epcot if you're at CR.

I'm doing free dining at ASMu, but will probably end up eating table service a couple of times and still paying out of pocket. If you want table service, the dining plan won't cover you!

Going from BLT to an AllStar is more than a little bit of a downgrade. It's two entirely different vacations. Only you can decide if you can afford BLT.
