Heads up on Thrifty rental

wanted to report on a mostly POSITIVE Thrifty experience.

found this thread on a search and hoping for a similar positive experience. :rotfl:

4/26 to 5/3 - Compact

Thrifty $195
Alamo $409

we always use Alamo so hopefully I won't regret using Thrifty instead. A $200 savings is a lot of money. :thumbsup2

I have never understood this. What other people wear does not affect my dining experience in any way. I don't get why people care what others in the restaurant are wearing. Now I can understand being irritated about the inconsistency of the enforcement of the dress code on a personal basis. Like the PP posted about her husbands shoes, and it wasn't indicated in the policy that he'd need specific shoes. That would irritate me. But I could not care less if the people at the table next to me were wearing park clothes, or in a swim suit cover up and flip flops, or a suit and formal gown. None of that affects the quality of the meal or the experience I have, or what I wear myself.

Hopefully it went well for you. We arrive today and I have Thrifty booked again. We had a 2nd positive experience in March so here's hoping for the trifecta!

The best way I found to deal with all this is to sign up for both of their "skip the desk" programs (not sure what each are called). These options were discontinued at MCO for some time but opened up again (I think in the winter).

Now I just skip the sometimes 30+ minute line and go to the kiosks across the road and in the parking garage.

The people that work them are nice (not salesman pushy type) and just need to see you info before pointing you to your waiting car or the row (if they have not assigned you yet). So much better experience and faster.

Most recent Thrifty experience this week...not as good as the last two times and there is still an outstanding issue...we will see what happens.

Arrived on time for my rental, name on the board along with many others, none of them had spaces just see agent. We had an agent who pretty much said nothing to me the entire time as she was looking up my reservation. Now I had reserved a Compact I think...and the total price for 4 days was ~$116. The counter person took some time but eventually she led us to the car, a really nice 2024 Toyota Camry. Sadly I did not check the portfolio...mistake for me.

Returned vehicle well within designated time, that went very well as usual. Receipt emailed to me...where I found my actual total was ~$170. Excuse me?

I later looked in my portfolio which had two records...the one with my original charges and expected total and a second one (I guess from when we checked in) with totally different rates and the total. So later that night I went online to the Thrifty FB page and started a chat requesting details about the change. They requested a copy of my original reservation (which matched the ~$116 one in my rental portfolio) and said they will be issuing me a refund for the difference. I'll keep you posted.

I got that pitch from the rental agent some 30 years ago. Forget which rental company. Back then I just repeated that I was declining their insurance coverage. I remember the agent adding, "... our cars leave our lot with insurance." Did not matter to me and no need for me to question whether Florida had such a law about insurance. Just that I was not going to pay for that insurance on the spot.

But I had that insurance on my car back at home which insurance covered me driving rental cars too. You had better also, or else in case of a real accident and a real claim against you, you could be bankrupted if you had neither the rental agency coverage nor credit card company coverage nor your own coverage.

Better to get and inspect your cost estimate at take out and your final receipt at return as opposed to get it in you email later. Easier to discover unexpected surcharges.

Just an update on this, wanted to wait until it was for sure resolved...and just warn others to double check in the future. I find the FB Messaging feature is the best way to reach a lot of companies, Thrifty included. They did let me know that it would take a day or two for the refund to process, but I did see it process through my credit card yesterday. I'm still not sure what happened that the rental agent provided me with such a different quote on the same reservation when I checked out, and I wish I had checked it before but she didn't give me a chance to review it. I just was handed it as I arrived at our car. So make sure what what you are quoted online matches at least closely to the portfolio version that you get when you pick up your car. This was our only not so great experience this year, so 2 out of 3 being good and this one not so good but resolved easily enough.
