HAVING A GRAND OLD TIME! The 2013 Grand Floridian Resort & Villas FAQ

My DH, and DD age 7 are staying at GF in Fed. Our first time - so excited! Does anyone know where I can find a map of the resort with the name of the buildings labeled? I keep reading about specific buildings, but can't seem to find a labeled map!

My DH has a conference at GF and we had to book our rooms thru an outside source. The only thing they could tell me is our room is an "outer building, garden view, with 2 Queen beds". Anyone know which building(s) this might be? Or which way the rooms face? TIA!

The GV outer buildings are Sago Cay, Boca Chica, Big Pine Key, and Conch Key (the other outer building is Sugar Loaf, which consists of all CL rooms). I'm not familiar with conventions, but I found this on the All Ears website:

Guests attending conventions at the Grand Floridian are often put in the Sago Cay lodge since this is the closest building to the Convention Center. Often, only adults occupy these rooms. On the other hand, guests with children request the Big Pine Key lodge as it is closest to the pools and beach.

bethclayton - :tinker: what an awesome upgrade! Enjoy!! And have a Happy, Happy 40th B'day.party:

Ummm...you mean like the one in the very first post of this thread?!;)

Congrats on your first trip to the Grand, I know you are going to love the resort.

All outer buildings have garden view rooms, so it could be any of them except Sugar Loaf, which is all club level. Your room will not be assigned until check in, so there is no way to know which building you will be in. You are welcome to add a request to your reservation.:thumbsup2

Awesome! Thanks for all your hard work! :goodvibes

I saw a Star Wars game in the arcade, my girls will be all set! :rotfl:

LOL - gotta have priorities.;)

Wha?!

click... click... click...

Awwwwwwwyeah babyyyyyy!!! :cool1:

Is the arcade open 24 hours? That's probably the only time I'm going to have available at this rate!

BTW, does anyone else hear the Flintstones theme when they read the subject header?

Yes, Gasparilla Grill & Arcade are open 24 hours.

And, heyyyy - that's "we'll have a GAY OLD TIME" for the Flintstones.

We are arriving at the BC in 4 days and will be checking in at the GF on the 28th! We are so unbelievable excited.:woohoo:

Just wondering if there is any information I can get for anyone while I'm down there? Updated menus, questions for CMs, certain photos, etc? This thread has been a huge help to my planning and I'd love to pay it forward!

Oooh, so close! Thanks for the offer, it would be great to get some new photos of the beach pool and beach, if you think of it.:beach:

BethClayton-Happy Birthday! What a magical day for you! I hope all your birthdays will be as grand as this one.

OK that map was not there when I looked :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. I just had an eye appointment last week.....maybe I need to go back for another one :lmao:.

Thank you so much! My DH has a golf tournament there in Feb. I'm such a planner - not knowing the building before-hand is going to kill me!

:rotfl: Sorry, you may need another opinion.;) (j/k, of course!)

I agree! It was not there before! Disney magic, I guess.

 It has been in the exact same spot on the first page of the last 4 FAQs, which is what tickled me. Had to give you all a hard time, sorry.;)

We can all relate, we need an over-planners anonymous. This is another point for booking club level, you know what building you will be in if not the room.

On a positive note, there are very few bad rooms at the Grand, so it is overwhelmingly likely you will get a lovely view.:thumbsup2 With garden view, you could end up with a view of the courtyard pool, the marina or the back side of Sago with the monorail and landscaping. If you have a preference, be sure to ask to have it added to your reservation.

How wonderful for you, it's going be hard to top this birthday present!!!!!!

Enjoy every moment

Have a Magical Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys, I cannot even believe I am posting this. We checked in today after 6 days at BC CL. Tomorrow is my 40th birthday.

WE WERE SURPRISE UPGRADED TO THE GRAND SUITE.

I swear I still can barely breathe. I am beside myself. I am still shaking. A few pics for the time being...

I have lots more but don't have much time right now. I can post more later or when I get home.

It has FIVE balconies. They told us Billy Joel played this piano. Johnny Depp stayed here.

It is insane. We have all cried. I am so grateful. We are here for four nights!!!

I am here with dh and kids. My BFF since childhood is staying on the second floor. We have already had our scones and snacks and shopped at basin. And an old friend who I have not seen in years is coming to meet for drinks tonight. Now this is a 40th birthday I can tolerate!

I was upgraded from GV room to TPV CL at Poly in May but this is WOW!!!!:goodvibes

So happy for you. More pics please!!!

Trish

Bethclayton- happy birthday to you!!!! Omg, that is so awesome!! I don't know if I would even leave the room. Holy cow!!! That is really amazing! Enjoy it!!

Star Wars game in arcade?? I won't be able to get ds out of there :)

I can't wait to check out the new pictures. Thanks k&a&c!!

Oh yes, DH had lots of things to say about the switch (gotta love his sense of humor) :rotfl:

But, as far as our list of "resort requirements" go, GF hits all but one (ability to walk to a park) and our other options were missing more than one requirement.

It has everything we want and need, and once DH reviewed the list, he said that he bets we probably end up loving it. :goodvibes

The price isn't too awful....we have 40% off so and going during value season so the nightly rate is actually a little less than what we paid for YC CL this past April. Still isn't super cheap though.

Your lucky. I want to stay at GF. My DH doesn't. He loves the WL. A GF GV was more than a WL CL room with 35% off. Now that we have become DCL addicts as well as WDW addicts I have to be a little more budget conscience with the resorts. The food at the GF club levels looks wonderful. Enjoy!! Someday I will find myself at the GF.
