Has anyone been to the parks during Pop Warner/cheer championships, 1st weekend of Dec?

My husband and I are planning a last minute trip to WDW during the weekend of Dec 4. It has to be during that weekend. I just found out that this is supposed to be a very busy time in the parks, which explains why we can't find a room on property (that, and the fact that we're planning with such short notice). I read one blog that kind of made it sound like it's the worst time to be at WDW. Does anyone have any experience with the parks during this weekend? Any suggestions?

Yes, we used to go that week. No more. The obnoxious chanting, screaming and out of control behavior of lots and lots of poorly supervised or maybe outnumbered teenagers in the parks, on the bus and at the resort got too much for our family. Best of luck to you!

We haven't purchased tickets yet, and have a refundable hotel reserved at a nearby Marriott. Would it be worth it to go? I'm having second thoughts.

I have. The only way Inwould do it again is to be sure I was not staying at the same hotel with the groups and to rent my own car. I did not notice any bad behavior or groups issues at the parks. Hotel and busses were another story completely.

I have, and I'm a veteran of the All-Star Sports resort with Pop Kids staying there. Other than putting up with their early morning practices on the football field, I didn't really mind. And in the parks their presence was big but personally I didn't find them as obnoxious as I thought I would. We're actually going to be there the same time as you, and I'm not expecting a horrible time with these kids at all. I've been during Pop Warner week lots of times and never had an issue (other than the one time at Hollywood Studios where they were doing tricks without a mat. Got scared that one of them would crack their skull open).

I experienced this 2 years ago and ....never again! The cheerleaders were very nice girls to talk with, but in terms of loud cheering and obnoxious behavior in the parks,...like I said, Never Again!

We have been there multiple times during Pop Warner and even though we stay at ASSports we have not experienced anything worse than crowded morning lines at the food court and the occasional group of cheerleaders or players being a bit loud. Nothing that interfered with our trip.

We have gone at that time three times and never had a problem. We did not stay at the same resort the Pop Warner kids did so that might make a difference. We really didn't notice any groups of them at the parks, I think they are kept pretty busy at the sports complex.

Thanks for the input! I feel a lot better after reading most of these responses, although other responses have reminded me to adjust my expectations.

We went once that week and will never do it again which sucks because our wedding anniversary is that week. But no, too many screaming teenagers in the pool, etc. Never again.

We are going for a 1 day trip on Dec 4 to MK. I hope we beat these Pop Warner / cheer championship crowds! :)

Agree that this will help me to adjust my expectations.

One of our trips was over Pop Warner week. Other than seeing groups of kids wearing similar shirts (or hair bows), we really didn't notice much differences.

We stayed at All Star Music last year during that time period. I didn't get the building I requested, which turned out great because we were in a building of non-event guests. The building across from us, that I requested, was filled with cheerleaders. We passed by them every morning while heading to the car and the girls were very nice and polite. Cheers and practicing were to be expected, but they did it at decent hours. In our room, we didn't hear anything from them.

I have been there at that time many times over the years. The kids do not have any appreciable impact on the parks, but their obnoxiousness is prevalent at the resorts they stay at.
