MMM, apple strudel is so good. Too bad it was not done right.
Feel sorry for the family who had to cut their trip short. Hope they were okay.

How sad about that family having to be evacuated.

It is interesting to see how they did it though. I guess I never thought of the life boats being used that way before.

I'm curious to see the review of the italian liqueur tasting. We've never done that one and I'm looking for new ideas for our August 2014 cruise!

How awful for the family that had to be evacuated but it looks like DCL handled the situation well

It was scary indeed. But they really knew what to do. Guess all that training in ports paid off. :thumbsup2

Kathy, we did some wine tasting lateron on the cruise, but that day we had signed up for an Italian Liqueur tasting. Most of these liqueurs are quite bitter and are commonly used in drinks.
But I am sure Mark would have loved our old world wine tasting and maybe the champagne tasting we did. :goodvibes

If you like the US kind of apple strudel you should visit here and try the real thing.

It was heartbreaking to see the wife and daughter getting into the life boat. They held on to each other and you could tell they were scared too!

As interesting as it was to watch from the veranda, it was so hard to see the family getting into the life boat, only one day after they had boarded. :sad2:
It was definitely interesting to watch how they did it and they worked like a well oiled machine. It was fascinating to watch.

The Italian Liqueur tasting was new to us as well. We knew most of the liqueurs because we go to Italy on a regular basis, but it was fun to do. Most of the things they offered were quite bitter on their own, but some tasted nice together with other things. :thumbsup2

They really knew how to handle an emergency like that. And all the training they do while in port really paid off. It was amazing to watch how they handled it all. :goodvibes

    Day 5, August 11

Are you from Austria? - Part 4

We headed right for two of them when I heard someone say, “Hey, are YOU from Austria?”.
We both were a bit gobsmacked, especially since we didn’t want to run into anyone of our cruise meet group.
But the lady that now waved at me looked very familiar and after we had said, that yes, we were from Austria, she got up and came over to hug both of us. And then we knew,

they had been our tablemates on our very first cruise on the WONDERful Disney WONDER.
Okay, can you say “small world” again? Jean and her husband Paul, who had come over to us for some hugs as well, had been part of another Disney group we had cruised with in 2009 and it was so much fun to catch up with them. Needless to say they changed their seats and we all sat together

and caught up on each other’s lives. Finally the last two participants in the tasting arrived and we started the serious part, the tasting.

Now, Italy is a neighbouring county to Austria and most of the drinks were kind of familiar, but it was fun to learn about the background and hear about the different drinks.

And once we had all tasted everything and given our comments, Jean challenged an Irish Castmember, who had helped out to try some of the quite bitter liqueurs. It was a hoot,

the faces she pulled were priceless, but she got quite a round of applause from everyone and actually did remember us during the rest of the cruise. After the tasting we still sat there for a while and chatted on, exchanged stateroom numbers and finally made our way to the Walt Disney Theatre for tonight’s show, which was “Aladdin”.
We had seen it at Disneyland years ago and were really looking forward to it. It was fun now to attempt to see it together with long lost, new friends. We sat towards the very back of the theatre and the show was as wonderful as we remembered it from Disneyland and then some.
Jean and her husband did leave mid performance as they said the tasting had had its effect on them and they were tired. But we all had the same dining rotation so we would possibly bump into each other again.
After the show we left with the crowd and since the elevators had quite a huge line we just slowly walked up to our deck, walked over to our stateroom, emptied the Fish Extender and then finally rested for a while. At around 8 we were ready to head out again for dinner. Today was formal night and we had decided to play along and wear our “Remy” clothes to dinner.
Our dinner venue tonight was the Royal Court and once we had made it there we were taken to our table, which was tucked away in a little corner.

Our servers were fast to come by and greet us and we were quickly served two Diet Cokes and the bread service of the day, the

    warm herb Brioche with an

Olive spread. And after having taken photos of both we enjoyed some of it. While we were tucking in we had a visitor. Jean had found us and came by to say hello before she had her dinner with her table mates.

She stayed for a few minutes and soon after she had left us again our starters were served.

    To be continued ............

Wow, i'm shocked about the cooking presentation. Seriously, how disappointing. I wonder if anyone complained considering people were leaving during the presentation.

I hope the passenger was okay. That would be so scary to have an emergency so far away from 'real' land.

So neat that someone recognized you from your 2009 cruise! How fun is that!

She IS a lot of fun. We shared a lot of laughs and ran into each other several times. :thumbsup2

I have NEVER seen a cooking demonstration like this one, and believe me, we have been to quite a few. He was doing a horrible job.

We really hoped that the patient was okay as well. He looked so sad on his stretcher.

It was so funny that we would run into Jean and Paul. What are the odds that we would end up in the same tasting class? We were on our first cruise in 2009 and they were pretty amazed we were Platinum already. :goodvibes

It was so fun to see Jean and Paul again. On our first cruise together in 2009 their daughter had just gotten married and they were on their honeymoon, with parents and little sister in tow. :lmao: When I asked about them, Jean told me that they already had a little girl and close to them. :goodvibes

Karin how nice to run into your first Wonder cruise table-mates, we sure enjoyed meeting ours again! ;) So sad about the family with the medical emergency, there was a couple we met on our cruise this summer, that the wife fell the first morning and spent the rest of the cruise in a wheel chair. We also had a family that missed getting back on the ship at St. Thomas, they sounded the warning whistle, along with the Carnival ship, and waited 15 min. before sailing without them.

Wow - the apple strudel presentation sounds horrible! I wonder why in the world the chef was so bad at it. :confused3

I sure hope the passenger with the medical emergency was okay. I have to admit that it was very interesting to see the pics of the lifeboat being boarded and lowered. I sure haven't had the opportunity to see that before.

How fun to run into old cruise buddies! I hope you get the opportunity to spend more time together.

    Can't wait for dinner! :thumbsup2

It was so sad to hear and even scarier to watch the family getting off the ship. I really hope they are all doing well again. :goodvibes

Hm, I wonder who those first Wonder cruise table-mates were. ;) :rotfl2:

Oh my, that must be horrible to fall the first day and spend the rest of your vacation in a wheel chair, but then at least they were able to stay on board. And a family missing the ship? That is so scary. :scared1: And the reason we are doing excursions through Disney and/or just easy walking distance from the ship.

To be honest, I think the chef was just a stand-in. He definitely wasn't a pastry chef. :rotfl2:
I felt bad watching from the veranda while the family had to get off, on the other hand, when do you ever get to see something like that. And it really showed that all the training the crew has to take paid off in the end.

What are the odds that we would run into someone from our first cruise again? And then the people we sat with that cruise. :rotfl2: It was so fun to catch up on each other's lives again. :thumbsup2

Running into Jean and her husband made up for some of the less than fun DISboards group. ;) We had a lot of fun together.
Aren't Jessica's expressions after tasting some Italian "goodness" just so fun. I can't remember what exactly she tried that day, maybe Tom can help out. ;)

It IS a small world! :lmao: I mean we have run in all sorts of people again and again on our cruises.
Two years ago we were so looking forward to seeing our favourite server, Ana, again on the Dream. We could not wait for dinner to hug her again, and then we went to have lunch at Enchanted Garden, walk around the first corner and run right into her.
And this time to run into Jean and Paul, what are the chances that on a fully booked cruise we would all choose the same tasting. ;)

Rosie, I am sure, had he produced the apple strudel there and then, NO ONE would have wanted to try it. :rotfl2:
The actual strudel we received as a sample was pretty good though. :thumbsup2
33 days until Disney? Lucky girl. I cannot believe that the Granny trip is actually so close - it has been a long time since you started planning, and I cannot wait for that trip report - should be the ultimate fun. :thumbsup2
