Key West, here we come! - Part 2

So we really enjoyed a little leisurely drive and once we had made it to the Seven Mile Bridge,

we stopped and got off to take some pics. We walked out onto the old bridge

Hi Karin! Love how you found your doughnuts for the road. Hmm nice stop over in Key Largo . How far was it to Key West? Loving the pics near the old bridge looks like those birds are posing for you

Guess I should say THAT bird :D

Hi, I've been reading your TRs and loving them! Thanks for sharing all of your experiences. I happen to love your homeland. I've spent a lot of time in Kitzbuhl and Salzburg and think Austria is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.

Can't wait to read more!

Guess I should say THAT bird :D

It's like we can smell those KK shops. :rotfl2:But since we can only get them in the US, we need to fill up on them as much as possible while there. ;)

We always have a stop over when we go to Key West. It's too much of a drive for us right from Orlando and Key Largo is more or less in the middle of the drive. Orlando - Key Largo is about a 5 hour drive and Key Largo to Key West are another 3 hours. But we do stop quite often. So it takes us even longer. :goodvibes

Thanks for sticking with me and being such a loyal reader. :goodvibes
It makes me very proud that you seem to love our home country so much. Yes, it is beautiful here, we just tend not to see it in our daily life. So I am pretty thankful for all my US friends who seem to like it here so much. :wave2:

To be continued ............
I'm trying to get caught up on your report. We have never been to Key West, so I am enjoying your pictures.

BCV looks so nice. Hope we get in there for September.

Nice stroll through World Showcase.

Nice night at MK.

Love the grilled cheese and soup from Beaches & Cream.

I miss Maelstrom.

The dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse looked good.

Love Nathans fries. YUM!

Nice room and view in Key Largo.

Nice pics by the bridge.

Caught up again.

Ahhhhhhh, I love those Mickey shaped patties! They are SO good. And good to know that you like them so much - I might be able to pick up a box for you in April. ;) We go to Passau quite often during the year (just not in the winter - I HATE driving along the Danube when it is slippery) and we can mail it to you from there - maybe together with some more "Marillen" stuff. :lmao:

Oh, that is a very generous offer!! I still have one box of marillen candy (the liqueur filled chocolates). It is so big that I am scared of opening it!! I need to share it with some people. But the other stuff disappeared quickly...

I know you mentioned to go shopping to Passau - what is it that you can get there better than at home? Obviously not gas, I know that there are plenty of people who drive to Austria to get gas (if they live close enough).

As for the flavoured patties - I love all things lemon and lime, so these sounded very nice to me. Unfortunately they were very sweet and you could not really taste the lime in them, so I guess I tried it and that will be it. ;)

You have good taste! I love everything citrus as well! What a shame that these patties were more lime in name than in taste. :confused3

Those were lovely pictures from the Seven Mile Bridge!! But this one made me laugh!! Thanks for including it! :rotfl2:

I have been so slow in updating here and my other thread as well. Somehow there are no longer enough hours in a day. ;)

Key West is just such a lovely place to be. We love it there. One day we have to go there together, I am sure you would love it too!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for BCV. So easy to get to Epcot and really nice place to stay.

It will be our pleasure to pick a box up for you! :thumbsup2
Had to :lmao: about the "stuff" disappearing fast - same here. We really enjoyed all the goodies you sent.

I know you mentioned to go shopping to Passau - what is it that you can get there better than at home? Obviously not gas, I know that there are plenty of people who drive to Austria to get gas (if they live close enough).

No, it definitely is not gas, we make sure to fill up the car before we leave home, makes FAR more sense. :rotfl2:To be honest for us it is kind of an excursion to go to Passau. There are so many things to check out, so we often will visit a sight or two or just take a walk around town.
As for shopping .... There is a shop selling herbs and spices and we really love those, there is also a shop that sells Gummibears and other gummi stuff, it's called Bears and Friends and even though we have a Haribo Factory here in town, that Bears stuff is so much better, so we shop there and then we shop cosmetics :rotfl2:. I think I read in your new TR that you know another person who likes to shop cosmetics in Germany - yip, a LOT cheaper. :goodvibes

Those were lovely pictures from the Seven Mile Bridge!! But this one made me laugh!! Thanks for including it! :rotfl2:

Isn't that one cute sign. I just love funny signs like this one. :thumbsup2

There was just another stop or two, and shortly after 1pm we arrived in Key West.

And went right to the hotel, even though we were pretty sure we would not be able to get to our room at that time. So we parked our car and went for the front desk. Imagine our surprise when we were told that they indeed had reserved the same room we had had the year before and that they only needed to check if everything in the room had been cleaned and prepared for our arrival.
Would we mind waiting for a few minutes.
No, we would not!
And with that we were provided two vouchers for a drink at the pool bar and they would send Tom a text when the inspection was done. We were stunned by this kind of service and headed over to the pool bar. And after finding seats at the bar we ordered our drinks and handed in our vouchers. Tom wanted a

Budweiser, while I tried their signature

IMG_1251_zpsnz1cz2kl.jpg

Key West Colada, which was pretty strong. And while we still sat there sipping our drinks, Tom got the message that our room was waiting and we could pick up the keys at the front desk.
So after finishing our drinks and tipping the bar tender we picked up the keys, drove over to our building, found a parking space near the elevator and up we went. We had taken a few things with us, so we didn’t have to get down to the car too many times, but not too many things, so we could take decent pictures of the room. And once we opened the door we knew we were back in paradise.

We knew the room pretty well, so we headed right for the balcony and stood outside, admiring the view.

To be continued ............

Oh wow, that hot dog look soooo good. I'm a sucker for hot dogs but rarely have them!

Speaking of your key lime patties, I tried my first ever key lime pie last year at a local fundraiser that our business was sponsoring and oh my, it was dleicious! I don't know why I waited so long to try ti.

That totally sucks about your camera. Years ago, my camera wasn't 'exposing' correctly either during a vacation in Monterey and this was before camera phones were popular to use. Luckily it was our last day, but really would have been sad had it happened at the beginning of our trip.

What a lovely room and great view from the balcony!

Good call on having dinner in the room. Much more relaxing!

And breakfast looks amazing and that price is awesome! So true about not judging a book by its cover. Sometimes the best food comes from the shadiest looking places.

This road makes me so nervous! What happens if someone breaks down?! :scared:

What great service at the hotel! Even better with those drink vouchers:drinking1

Oh wow, that hot dog look soooo good. I'm a sucker for hot dogs but rarely have them!

We don't get hot dogs like that here in Austria, so it was tempting to try one and it was pretty good.

I really hated not having my camera working reliably. It would take 30 photos without an issue and then it would go all weird. And it took us a while figuring out that I had not reset something, but that the camera was broken. Thankfully we never travel with just one camera and I used our "water camera" instead.

This road makes me so nervous! What happens if someone breaks down?! :scared:

I think this is part of the old bridge, which is used as a footbridge and for fishing. The regular road is just a two way lane, but the longest bridge is 7 miles long - I would not like to have my car break down on that bridge. :sad2:

What great service at the hotel! Even better with those drink vouchers:drinking1

We love the hotel. We always get an oceanfront room and the last two visits we had the same corner room with a huge balcony overlooking the ocean. It is just heaven there - and they sprinkled our arrival with quite some pixie dust. And not only the free drinks.

After thoroughly absorbing the view of the ocean we walked back inside and discovered why we had had to wait for our room. There was a small welcome back present in the room, a sea salt scrub and a nice little card.

And after a short restroom break we went down to get the rest of our stuff up. And only now, while putting away things we discovered that there was a Nespresso coffee maker, complete with different coffees on the counter. A friend of Tom’s is a sales rep for Nespresso, so the next task was to take a few photos of the coffee maker and mail it to him.

IMG_1260_zpsemmdwfyz.jpg

Once we were done with everything we relaxed for a little while before we headed out to do some grocery shopping. There is a large Publix market, which we went to, did some shopping, than drove back to our resort and stocked the fridge. There were still some cold drinks,

IMG_1256_zps4hemf6su.jpg

so we sat outside on our loungers, looking out over the ocean and enjoying the beauty of the day.

Around 6pm we decided to head over to the Southernmost Café on the Beach for dinner.

IMG_1281_zpslgnrdgit.jpg

Having been there before, we knew that we were approaching from the wrong side, so walked through the restaurant to actually get to the front desk, where we were welcomed warmly and quickly shown to a table with a view of the ocean and our resort.
They quickly filled our glasses with iced water and then took our order for drinks. We both ordered a Diet Coke to quench the thirst, Tom got a

I got behind here too. Thanks to the new Dis they forgot to notify me. LOL
That drive to key west is pretty far. My sister drove from Ohio there other once and she said it was sooooo long.
It looks like paradise though and you have gotten some great pictures. That 7 mile bridge makes my heart skip...the scared way. Thats a long time to be driving on a bridge.

Wow I would have a hard time leaving that balcony. It looks so relaxing not what I think of when I hear "Key West."

It will be our pleasure to pick a box up for you! :thumbsup2
Had to :lmao: about the "stuff" disappearing fast - same here. We really enjoyed all the goodies you sent.

I will be looking forward to the box! And I am happy to hear that you enjoyed my Nuremberg specialities!

I thought dm was in Austria as well - would not have thought that there is such a price difference! I know the Bears and Friend stores, we have one here as well. I know quite a few who really like their stuff, but I am a huge Haribo fan... I like my gummi bears rather hard and not too soft. Passau is a lovely city, I can see why you would make it a bit of an excursion!

We knew the room pretty well, so we headed right for the balcony and stood outside, admiring the view.

That's funny!! But am I seeing this right that the coffee is more in some kind of pad, not the usual capsule? Is that the American system?

I have a Nespresso machine (I only bought it because I hoped to meet George Clooney if I got one :rotfl2:) and really like it. I only drink coffee during the weekend and normal coffee always got stale before I used it up. With the capsules it works so much better!

Such a beautiful shot! Just the wrong ship...

I opted for the

Not as many updates as I would have hoped I could post as we are going back to WDW/DCL in a little over 3 weeks.
We love the 7 mile bridge, it looks so awesome and the water is just unbelievable.
I hope to post pix of our yummy meal very soon. :goodvibes

What a gorgeous view and love that they gave you a sea salt scrub. I love all kinds of bath products. I could seriously live and work in the bath salts at Basin inside of the GF lobby!:cloud9:

Mmm, a Key Lime Colada? Not sure what that is, but i'd give it a go! :thumbsup2

Hi Karin! Checking in and catching up!

OMG! BACON CHEESE FRIES??? :scared1: That is both so wrong and so right! :rotfl2: I know a certain bacon-loving little girl who would lose her mind if she found out about those!

Those darn GPSs - they have a mind of their own! Glad you managed to get to KK anyway even if not the one you intended. I mean, I wouldn’t know what to do if you weren’t taking some KK with you to Key Largo!!!!:faint:

So sorry about your camera - having something go wrong with a camera in the middle of a trip is just awful! I'm glad Tom had one too. Phew!!!

What a nice room you got at the hotel in Key Largo. I can’t believe I have never once made it to the keys. I even lived in the Miami area for a year long, long ago. I love reading about your non-Disney adventures. As you know, I’m a big fan of TRs that include some other things - it’s fun to see other destinations and get ideas for other vacations. And as you definitely know, I’m a huge fan of a relaxing meal in the room now and then on vacation. :thumbsup2

Good for you for stopping at a non-chain place you had researched. It looks like you had a great breakfast! Our road trip last summer was all about doing stuff like that - everywhere we stayed and ate was kind of an adventure, some researched ahead, some not. And it was so fun!!! I'm glad you enjoyed your experience.

LOVING the beautiful views!!!! All those blue skies, sun shine and water - it’s hard to believe they exist right now after all the months of grey and cold. :beach:

Wow! Very impressed with the service at your Key West hotel. And, oh my goodness, what a gorgeous room!!! And the view! I know that I was in on your previous TR when you stayed here, but I have a bad memory. I am loving this place!
