California, unless the local government and property owner have reached an agreement to allow California Vehicle Code to apply on the property, and THEN the property owner must prominently posted. Now, you DO have to report, in writing, within 10 days, any such collision, private or public property, to DMV.

I'll probably get jumped on for saying this, but the tone of this thread is reminiscent of the pregnant lady with cheating husband escaping to Canada thread to me. Some of this story just doesn't ring true to me, but it sure has stirred up quite a lively conversation! Hope I'm off-base on this one.

Except its a regular poster posting under their own name. Story seems believable enough to me.

I still don't see any differentiation between public and private property. In the report to which you linked, it says "California law requires traffic accidents on a California street/highway or private property to be reported to the DMV within 10 days if there was an injury, death or property damage in excess of $750."

And this section of code says:

20002. (a) The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting only in damage to any property, including vehicles, shall immediately stop the vehicle at the nearest location that will not impede traffic or otherwise jeopardize the safety of other motorists. Moving the vehicle in accordance with this subdivision does not affect the question of fault. The driver shall also immediately do either of the following:

    (1) Locate and notify the owner or person in charge of that property of the name and address of the driver and owner of the vehicle involved and, upon locating the driver of any other vehicle involved or the owner or person in charge of any damaged property, upon being requested, present his or her driver's license, and vehicle registration, to the other driver, property owner, or person in charge of that property. The information presented shall include the current residence address of the driver and of the registered owner. If the registered owner of an involved vehicle is present at the scene, he or she shall also, upon request, present his or her driver's license information, if available, or other valid identification to the other involved parties.

    (2) Leave in a conspicuous place on the vehicle or other property damaged a written notice giving the name and address of the driver and of the owner of the vehicle involved and a statement of the circumstances thereof and shall without unnecessary delay notify the police department of the city wherein the collision occurred or, if the collision occurred in unincorporated territory, the local headquarters of the Department of the California Highway Patrol.

    (b) Any person who parks a vehicle which, prior to the vehicle again being driven, becomes a runaway vehicle and is involved in an accident resulting in damage to any property, attended or unattended, shall comply with the requirements of this section relating to notification and reporting and shall, upon conviction thereof, be liable to the penalties of this section for failure to comply with the requirements.

    (c) Any person failing to comply with all the requirements of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding six months, or by a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that imprisonment and fine.

You're not alone, my BS-meter was going off, mostly about the post of HR leaving a voice mail requesting the lunch meeting. First off, most HR depts would not leave that in a voice mail. Second, it seems off to me that HR would WANT the 2 parties together. Usually they would speak to each party independently and only together if BOTH parties were requesting such a meeting with HR. Like you, I hope I am wrong and apologize to the OP if I am. I think it is the pregnancy similarity that reminds you/me of the previous hoaxter. If it is true, it is pretty ridiculous really....her car was hit, damage was done, insurance handles it, end of story. No way it should be getting this complicated. I also wonder why the 3rd party hasn't been mentioned (as another poster mentioned) in any of this info? Why would the Dr only be interacting with OP since her insurance would be covering 2 vehicles? I know the OP orig posted about the possibility of over-reacting due to hormones, so that certainly seemed like a normal type of reaction or post..but as it went on, I don't know. Thw whole thing is just sad whether true or not.

The OP has an awful lot of posts, more than the average scammer. And her HR dept doesn't sound like the most competent, since they just flubbed her health insurance last month. I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt.

I am hoping that I am just cynical on all this, I really am. I think it is the similarity of being pg like the other poster that is making some of us pause...well, that and the fact that HR is operating in such a way :confused3

You would think the OP would have posted an update by now, if the story was true that is. When I first read the thread, I also thought that maybe this was all BS. I hope it isn't. The one fact that sticks with me is when she said there was minimal damage on the doctors vehicle. But she hit the OP's car hard enough to push it into another car. If this was indeed the case. The offending vehicle would have significant damage, and not minimal a the OP said.

It is a shame some people have to make up stuff. It makes it really hard to believe anything written here. I'm not saying the OP lied for sure, just making a comment.

She shared her dilemma but that doesn't mean she'll rush home from work, jump on the DIS, and share everything that happened. Maybe she went out to dinner with her husband. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation.

Depending on how the meeting went, she may be to upset to post. Or maybe they she was told not to discuss with anyone until the matter was resolved.

Exactly, and she's nearing the end of her pregnancy. I certainly know the last thing I'm thinking about after a long day at work is rushing home to update nosy DISers.

Hi all, just wanted to give a quick update!

I have to go back and read all the replies I missed while at work today! There are a lot of new pages, I will catch up. I ended up at work pretty late tonight since the hr meeting took a chunk out of my work day. I was late for the meeting because my meeting prior went over. When I got there they had me talk to an HR lady, she basically just wanted to hear about what happened, mostly what time did I park, what time did I come out, what time do I think my car got hit. What kind of damage, did my insurance have an estimate yet blah blah. All stuff I think they have on video, so that seemed weird. She did ask if my insurance company name which I gave her. (didn't see why not) She did ask if I filed a police report, I told her I filed 2, one before I knew who did it and 1 after. She did not ask anything else about that. They were not aware the Dr had spoken to me. They were not happy about that. They had a lot of questions about that. Then they had me meet with a "risk management" person who basically told me not to speak about the incident at work at all. I could be disciplined or fired for talking to anyone about what happened or who was involved. I told them everyone on my floor already knew. They said that was fine just not to talk about it anymore. They said not to speak with the Dr and she is not to speak to me. I am also not to speak with the other car owner, I have no idea who that person is. They did give me some BS about Doctors having to rush to an emergency situation, I kept it to myself but that is a complete load of bull. There are specific up front spots for that, and unless it lasted 2 full days the accident should have been reported. And it was clear from the video this Dr was not in a hurry, she fully inspected her own damage. They told me they would handle the incident and that they would contact me if they needed anymore info. I am not sure what to make of it, but it was not too bad.

So now I am just stuck waiting for my car to get fixed. I am going to exchange my car for a bigger car tomorrow which I am happy about. I was told to pay the difference and keep the receipts for now. They said they could give me a " Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar".

Im actually giving the OP the benefit of the doubt. Six years ago, a Hyundai Santa Fe ran a stop sign and hit the right rear side of my 2001 Mercedes C Class, the Santa Fe lost the front bumper, left head light and grill. My car got a small dent (and I got the scare of my life), I actually felt bad for the lady driving the other car :rolleyes2, her suv had major damage and needed a tow truck after the accident while I drove off without any problems.

Wow, I have not read all your responses yet but I am a little offended that you think I am a scammer. I really wish this did not happen. But I seem to be a magnet for trouble these days. I apologize for being so dramatic, but I was really really upset when I saw that video. Just thinking about the video still makes me crazy mad.

You're not saying the OP lied...but you are aren't you...

Maybe I am just naive, but I usually lean toward believing people rather than assuming that the majority of what is written on these boards is lies.

If that is really how you feel why do you continue to come on the boards?
